Stepping out of traditional roles (and comfort zones) is not for everyone. But for the nine members in the NSW Fire and ReScue Molong 380 including, Stacy Whiley and Natasha Neville (pictured above), 'stepping out' in search of new challenges, new experiences, has helped both to achieve new opportunities. All positive reasons - including training, fitness, learning new skills and most of all - helping to protect their community. Last Saturday firies from NSW Fire and Rescue Molong 380 set up a stand alongside their shiny red truck in Bank Street to encourage part-time volunteering opportunities to local residents. With the national warnings out about the possibility of a high bush fire season on the way - why not become a member of this highly needed, critical in fact, community service and community safety protecter. Why did Stacy Whiley and Tash Neville join Molong 380? Read all about their motivation and inspiration Page 7.
We're staying: future of bowling club decided
A vote linked to 'traditional' values to keep the club and greens on its current site was accepted by members of the Molong Bowling Club at its recent meeting. Located on the Euchareena Road both the clubhouse and greens suffered extensive damage when the neighbouring Molong Creek sent raging and destructive floodwaters through the site in November 2022. The working committee, set up by club members a few months ago returned to a full member meeting and AGM to report on the three available options: 1. Remaining on site and building insitu, 2. Relocating to higher ground on a shared sporting site (i.e. Molong Showgrounds/Golf Club), and 3. A long-discussed merger with the Molong RSL.
The majority of members in attendance at the meeting gave the go-ahead to remain on the current site and proceed with repairs to the buildings. Voting members were confident that the decision to rebuild on the current, central site was the way forward for the future of the club. However, a number of members left the meeting bitterly disappointed - unable to support the majority decision that remaining on the current site was the best option. As reported by The Express in July, the centrally located club is more than just two greens for lawn bowls. Generations of members have embraced the club since it was built on the site some 50 years ago. A community gathering place for not only bowls (social and competition) the club has held many functions and events ranging from

fundraisers, parties and dances, birthdays and weddings to wakes - catered for by the club's dedicated women and volunteers. These have been critical for the financial viability of the club. Bowls itself relied on its facilities including the auditorium, kitchen and pleasant outdoor area for the holding of local gatherings and celebrations. Bowls includes inter-town formal pennants as well as social Wednesdays, BRAG on Friday nights and weekends social bowls. The decision to rebuild on site and the restoration of the entire facility includes the bar and cool-room, the auditorium, kitchen, and other facilities. The club will commence working with their insurer on agreed scope of works. See next weeks Express for more.
