PRESIDENTS WELCOME

On behalf of the Orange District Antique Motor Club, welcome to the 9th Autumn Tour of pre 1931 vehicles of the Historic Vehicle Movement.

The past few years have proven very difficult for those of us who enjoy the camaraderie of traveling through our countryside at a leisurely pace. We can now make up for lost time.

We are pleased to welcome back the Sultana, Blythe and Lack families who between them have entered 13 cars in this rally.

I would like to pay tribute to the rally organisers, particularly Peter and Rosemarie Amos who have planned what should be another memorable run in and around our Colour City and nearby historic villages. Keith Packham who is also on the committee has been to every Autumn Tour since we started in 2005. He has also been busy organising the Saturday run to Molong. Many thanks to our marshals and other ODAMC members who have worked hard behind the scenes to put this show on the road.

Regrettably, this will be the last function at our clubhouse which has been our home for 45 Years. However, we intend to continue from a new venue doing what we do best which is to provide our participants and friends from all over, a warm welcome and a memorable time.

RALLY DIRECTORS REPORT

Welcome to Orange and thank you for entering our pre 31 Autumn Tour. We look forward to blue skies and colourful scenery. This event has become very popular in recent years and finding venues and catering for the larger number of entries is becoming more difficult, so this year we decided to try and restrict numbers. It is unfortunate that we could not open this year’s event to all comers.

We have entrants travelling from North Queensland to Ballarat and Sydney to Collarenebri representing 37 clubs, we appreciate everyone making the effort to bring your cars to Orange.

This year we have a record 21 Veteran Vehicles that have entered, the oldest being a 1905 De Dion Bouton - 117 years old and the youngest two being a 1918 Crossley and 1918 Buick that are only 104 years old! Of these Veterans there are only two cars that are the same make and model which are the 1909 Maxwell’s. So there will be a wonderful variety of these unique vehicles on tour. We have 98 vintage cars participating, with the Chev’s leading the charge with 17 entries (1926-1930). There are also large groups of Chryslers, Fords, Dodge Brothers and Buick vehicles. So it will be a grand sight to see all these old cars together. Overall we have 36 different makes of cars to admire.

I hope you enjoy your stay in Orange and that the brisk autumn weather will add to the joy of vintage motoring with other enthusiasts.

Andrew Sharpe

The first Pre 1931 Autumn Tour in 2005 was the initiative of Orange District Antique Motor Club member Andrew Sharpe. On that occasion there were 38 entries which included 3 motorcycles.

Andrew entered his 1916 Harley Davidson Outfit which he had restored over 10 years. In 1972 he restored a 1922 Buick Tourer, this car was used as a bridal car for Andrew and Sue on their wedding day in 1976 and it was later refurbished for his daughter Olivia’s wedding in 2014, it has now been in the family for 50 years. The Buick was purchased from the 1922 Buick Tourer Bennett family of Sandy Creek Rd, Molong and had been used as a mail delivery vehicle. Andrew is a great supporter of the Orange Autumn Tour and together with the club we are pleased that the entries have once more tripled in number since its inception. This year Andrew will again select a car of his choice for a trophy. He has been hard at work behind the scenes this year organising our runs. The Autumn Tour has now become an annual event involving other Central West car clubs and we thank Andrew for his foresight in recognizing the need to have an event like this specifically for Veteran & Vintage vehicles.

Jack and Norine Lack from Dubbo have been attending the Autumn Tour’s since 2007. Their daughter Carolyn, son Matt, daughter-in-law Jaci and family are also regular entrants to the Autumn Tour. • The days run will begin in Millthorpe from 9am. Please make your way to Millthorpe in your own time. The quieter route would be to travel through Spring Hill. We will park in the Oval at Millthorpe and have morning tea across the road at the Millthorpe Museum. If you want “real coffee” you will have time to go down the street and buy some.

• At 10.30 we will depart for a drive through the Blayney Shire villages of Forest Reefs, Mandurama (Fuel), Neville, Barry, Hobbys Yards and arrive at Newbridge for lunch.

A coffee van will be available.

• Those going on the SHORT RUN you will proceed to Blayney (Fuel) from Millthorpe – see maps.

• Depart after lunch, and return to Orange via Blayney (Fuel) and call into the Anglican Church Book Fair in Adelaide Street for a bargain.

• Make your way back to Orange via Spring Hill to avoid the busy Mitchell Highway. We recommend dinner at the Robin Hood Hotel on the Burrendong Way, which will be the starting point for Saturdays run. SHORT RUN starts between Manildra & Molong leg, see maps.

Saturday 30 April • Gather at the Robin Hood Hotel parking area from 8.30am for a 9.30am departure. The toilet facilities will be open in the Hotel. Take away Coffee is also available.

• We will be heading to Molong for morning tea at the Molong Showground.

• Manildra will be the lunch stop at the Memorial Hall. The famous Amusu Picture Theatre will be screening some nostalgic black and white movies.

• Return to Orange at your leisure.

• Presentation dinner at the Hotel Canobolas, Cnr Lords Place & Summer Sts Arrive from 5.30pm for dinner to be served at 7pm.

Keith & Nancy Packham from Molong and Jim & Christine Hatton from Cowra have attended every Autumn Tour since the inaugural rally in 2005.

Keith has been a stalwart of the Orange District Antique Motor Club holding the position of President for a number of years.

Both Keith and Nancy have been tireless workers when Orange has hosted the Autumn Tour and the Bush Council Rally. The Packham’s can’t be missed in their bright green Buick and we hope to see their 1927 Chev back on the road soon.

Jim & Chris Hatton are also loyal supporters of the Autumn Tours having attended all 13 of them. Jim & Chris hosted the first “out of Orange” tour in Cowra in 2014.

Markets reach new heights

We all know that everyone was dying to jump in their cars and get out of Sydney, or wherever, and go travelling after two years of pandemic shutdowns. Not a few of them came through Molong at the Easter weekend. The Showground, Bowling Club and Molong Van parks were chockers. I don't know how many cars, caravans (and dogs) pulled up at the Railway Station.

On Monday the Molong Advancement Group's Village Markets attracted a bumper crowd at the Rec - I reckon up to 5000 - as at least half of them came through the gate that I was sitting at with

my Molong Rotary co-members. The Hospital Auxiliary and the Campdrafters would have had the same at the other gate. Whoever thought of moving the markets to the Monday of a long weekend is a genius. You couldn't miss it from the highway and it seems everyone had time to call in "on the way home" from wherever they had been. And there were plenty of Cabonne and Central West locals there too.

Peter Batten, MAG President, reported over $3700 was donated at the gates, supporting this market's fundraiser for the Molong Hospital Sensory Garden project. Well done MAG and all their committee and helpers.

CWA of NSW Hunting licence ‘disgusted’ course now at renewal of available online PELs on prime farming land

The Country Women’s Association (CWA) of NSW has today expressed its disgust at the NSW Government’s decision to quietly renew a number of expired Petroleum Exploration Licences (PELs 1, 12 and 238) on the Liverpool Plains, in direct contradiction to the wishes of the entire community and without informing landholders.

The decision follows years of advocacy and lobbying by community groups on this issue who have been on tenterhooks awaiting an announcement and who received no information from the State Government to inform them of this development.

“Just one day after the Deputy Premier was visiting the Royal Easter Show for ‘Thank a Farmer’ day, these renewals were made. Please explain to me how exactly farmers are being ‘thanked’ by making a decision to concentrate future coal seam gas developments within some of the most productive farming areas of the state?” said CWA of NSW President Stephanie Stanhope.

“This renewal places agricultural land and water at risk. It’s as simple as that, and that is why we are so strong in our advocacy on this matter.

“We were also extremely disappointed in the underhanded way in which the information about the renewals came to light. The landholders, and this community, deserve far better. They deserve to be treated with respect and courtesy.

“By sneaking this decision into the government gazette, just before Easter, really is very upsetting for the community who, if they had doubts before, really have a clear idea now of where they stand in terms of government priorities.

“We will never rest in our lobbying on this issue. If anything, this development and the nature by which it has come to light reinforces even more why we must continue to fight for the future of this special area,” she said.

The NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) has made it easier for hunters with the launch of the new Restricted Game Hunting Licence (R-Licence) Accreditation Course.

DPI Deputy Director General Fisheries and Hunting, Sean Sloan said making hunter education more accessible is a crucial step in ensuring hunting is conducted safely and ethically in NSW. “In order to get licensed to hunt in over 200 NSW State forests declared and open to hunting, hunters must first successfully complete the R-Licence Accreditation Course and become a member of an Approved Hunting Organisation,” Mr Sloan said.

“The process of obtaining a licence has now been accelerated, by introducing an online option to complete the accreditation course, in addition to the current face-to-face mode of delivery.

“Having the course available online means hunters can access the course anywhere, at any time, and complete the training at their own pace.

“This is fantastic news for hunters from all over Australia who want to get licensed to hunt in NSW and improve their hunting knowledge.”

Regulated hunting generates a range of social and economic benefits of NSW. In 2020-21, it is estimated that hunting related activities generated $1,406 million in expenditure.

The new R-Licence Accreditation Course features real-life hunting scenarios and best practice methods to provide hunters with more comprehensive and relevant education about legal hunting in NSW. “The online option brings the R-Licence Accreditation Course into the digital age with new graphics, images, animations and video tutorials,” he said.

“Additional training modules that previously needed to be completed by hunters after they have obtained their R-Licence have also been incorporated into the accreditation course, to further expedite the process for newly licensed hunters.

Three Years or Six Weeks I hope to present for your reading a series of week-by-week reviews of the election campaign.

The theme of the 2022 campaign is - do the last three years, let alone the last nine years, count or is it only about the six or seven weeks of the campaign?

Let me make my position clear. The Morrison government deserves two titles after its three years of rule. In the history of Australian politics it shares the most incompetent government dishonour with the McMahon government and it shares the most divisive government dishonour with the Abbot government. I intend over the next few weeks to articulate why that is my position while framing it with a weekly review of how the print and television media have presented the election campaign.

I grew up poor. We didn’t have a telephone until I was 16 nor did we have a car until I was 17. We rented a television because we didn’t have the capital to buy one.

My single mother proudly raised my sister and myself with nil support from my father. She managed in the late 1960s to obtain a Housing Commission two bedroom flat for us to live in. My sister grew up sharing a bedroom with my mother. We could afford that, just. My mother achieved that with the help of a member of parliament.

And yes, it was a Labor party member.

The point is that politics and government do matter.

I generally vote Labor, but not always. The Wran/ Unsworth Labor government stank. It was deservedly voted out of office in 1988, I contributed to that. Why do I vote Labor? It cares. It puts people before the economy.

As one ages you’re supposed to become more protective of what you have earnt and vote to avoid reform or change, that is vote for the conservatives, the Coalition currently led by Scotty Morrison and Barnaby. In my case it has not worked out that way. The older I become the more I want what is best for people, not the economy. The more I believe in caring for each other, not besting each other. The more I believe that the task of government is the welfare of its people, not the welfare of business. The more I move to the left of the political spectrum, not the right. Call me radical.

Speaking of radical I call the Murdoch press a propaganda machine that Josef Goebbels would have admired. The Murdoch press, here the Australian and Daily Telegraph newspapers, has wielded its power to support the Coalition parties. I remember the review

after the 2013 election that found the Murdoch press had published more than 600 articles on the campaign, only five of which didn’t attack the Labor Party. Its bias is breathtaking. It believes in the primacy of the making of profits, not in the making of people. I am keen to call that out as it happens this time.

The Week That Was

Imagine my surprise, and scepticism, when during the week that was, week one of this campaign, I read a Murdoch senior executive state that the Murdoch Empire in Australia intended to allow its journalists to write what they wanted rather than follow the Murdoch anti-Labor party-line. He implied that was the usual position of the Murdoch Empire which is patently untrue and thus the reason for my scepticism. I read Saturday’s Australian, and was surprised. Be clear, it was still extraordinarily one-sided, biased and advocating not what was good for Australia but what was good for business. But, some of its journalists suggested that the Morrison government did not deserve to be elected.

Peter van Onselen wrote that the Morrison government “certainly has no plan to change [its] pattern of neglect if it wins again”. Greg Sheridan couldn’t find it in himself to support the Morrison government after the first week of the election campaign. Sharri Markson, possibly the most biased and unreasoning journalist in Australian newspaper history, claimed that because Anthony Albanese was not a ministerial adviser during the mid-1980s then his claim that he was an economics adviser is somehow a lie. I see that there is a difference

Time to do things differently

‘’The Central NSW Joint Organisation Board have resolved to ramp up advocacy as a region to speak with one voice on the priority issues,” said Cr Kevin Beatty, Mayor of Cabonne Council and Chair of Central NSW Joint Organisation.

“As local representatives closest to our communities, regardless of who wins the election in May, my fellow Mayors and I will continue to ensure our priorities are on the table,” said Cr Beatty.

A delegation from CNSWJO recently met at Federal Parliament and heard the Government’s budget priorities commitments for the region.

With the upcoming election the delegation also took the opportunity to meet with representatives of the opposition to share the regions vision for the future.

“We will meet with the incoming Government in June and bring them the real stories of our region. We will bring them solutions and an offer of genuine partnership,” said Cr Beatty.

“We know that by doing things differently we will get different results. Have a look at the incredibly successful activation precinct in Parkes. We need more of this. Through sound leadership the Dutch have been able to double their agricultural output while halving their

inputs. We have a terminal river system on the Lachlan and need to think about it differently,” said Cr Beatty.

“Strategies by the State government have focussed on the hub and spoke models from our bigger centres. This overlooks the opportunities for development from leveraging the rich pattern of settlement in our region where the larger centres are so close to each other and we have a network of larger towns through to smaller villages,” said Cr Beatty.

“All our communities experiencing skills and housing shortages as a result of the recent remarkable growth in this region. Regional digital connectivity, water security, exciting opportunities in the waste and circular economy and ensuring health workforce are all on the table. Key to our communities is ensuring local government representation as the most accountable politicians in the country are at the decision making table with all three levels of government,” said Cr Beatty.

“Our region sees real opportunities and potential throughout regional Australia, leading to a more productive, more balanced and more equitable Australia, for the benefit of all Australians,” said Cr Beatty.

in the meaning between ‘economics’ and ‘ministerial’ but somehow Markson doesn’t. I mention it because The Australian saw fit to place this poorly reasoned claim on the front page in bold font. I call that a practice of propaganda.

I am writing this on the Sunday after week one of the 2022 Federal election campaign. It will be published on the Thursday after. Its news content is not current. The first week according to the print and television media, at least those I saw and read, was driven by Albanese’s memory blackout on numbers. Yet the television coverage, and by that I mean the evening news on Ten, Nine, SBS and ABC, was balanced and over the week more supportive of Labor than of the Coalition. This is not the pattern of elections since 2010 which have all focused on Labor mistakes and leaks.

Maybe the last three years do matter more than the six or seven weeks of the campaign. Then again maybe not.

Albanese’s supposed gaffe on offshore detention was a media beat-up, a continuation of the first week’s mythic narrative of Albanese as mistake-ridden. I write mythic not as meaning false but as meaning story-making. It was another example of the way the media have consistently been prepared to find fault with one side of our two party political system and not the other since 2010.

The week ended with ABC’s Insiders highlighting the Liberal Party claiming in a social media post that Labor is going to introduce a Retiree Tax. I am a retiree and I know this is a complete fabrication, a scare tactic. Is it another Morrison lie? Is it only about the six weeks rather than the three years of this incompetent and divisive government?

A bouncer is checking IDs at the door of Pats Bar and spots a horribly drunk man stumbling up to him.

Before the drunk man says anything the bouncer turns him away by letting him know he's too drunk to be let in.

Drunk guy is nice about it, nods to the bouncer and walks off.

Moments later the bouncer sees the side door of the bar open and close.

He goes over to check it out only to notice the same drunk man.

There was a smaller yarding with the Easter break a factor. Quality overall was mixed from well presented prime cattle to some lacking finish. The market was dominated by younger cattle suiting feeders and a few lots for the processors. The regular buyers attended and operated in a market that did fluctuate at times depending on quality and demand. Bidding was spirited

as the younger cattle sold from firm to 10c/kg dearer with some isolated sales stronger during the sale. Grown steers and grown heifers were slightly dearer, cows of medium weight sold firm to 2c dearer with some of the heavy cows from 10c up to 20c/kg higher at times.The 6 bulls penned sold to firm. The sale consisted of approximately 6 bull,88 cows, 175 heifers and 407 steers.

Vealers steers sold from 550c to 610c with vealer heifers to 580c/kg. Yearling steers to the trade made from 520c to 560c and the feeders paid from 480c up to 625c/ kg. Yearling trade weight heifers made from 445c to 522c and the feeders were again busy paying from 420c to 570c/kg. Grown steers sold from 395c to 495c and feeders paid to 520c/kg. Good quality grown heifers made from 420c to 451c/kg.

Heavy beef cows sold from 340c to 389c, medium weight cows D2 to D3 scores made from 290c to 332c as restockers purchased cows from mostly 330c up to 450c/kg. Heavy bulls sold from 300c to 341c/kg.

I wasn’t at golf on Sunday at Royal Molong but my intrepid reporter Bro was on the course to report on everything that was happening.

He reported that there were only nine players for an individual stableford event that Paul Glynn organised and won. Paul has been running Sunday golf for a few weeks in Justin’s absence and obviously hasn’t been penalising himself for his recent victories. He won the individual stableford event played a fortnight ago and was part of the winning team in the ambrose event played last Sunday.

Apparently there was a discussion regarding what a burglar he has become.

A burglar in golf is a player who scores well below their golf handicap and if Paul has won three weeks in a row he must be a burglar.

Thanks to Stubba for cooking the bbq and cleaning up. Speaking of Stubba he featured a lot in Bro’s report. Stubba informed Bro that he, Bro, was not a follower but he was a good leader.

According to Bro, Stubba was pushing and slicing a lot of his shots. Quinney

had his clubs on Stubba’s golf cart and was hitting his drives and iron shots pretty well. So this meant Quinney had to grab a couple of clubs from his bag while Stubba criss-crossed the course chasing his golf ball. Quinney’s putting was pretty good as well, sinking some putts from the edge of the green.

Bro said to Stubba after another wayward shot “I suppose some of your worst shots are the ones where you don’t know where your ball is going.”

“Actually no,” said Stubba “Some of my worst shots are the ones where I do know where my ball is going. “ There is another long weekend this weekend but golf is still being played at Royal Molong golf course on Sunday, 8.30am for 9am. As usual everyone is welcome.

This Sunday’s event is the monthly mug, an eighteen hole individual stableford event for a $50 voucher towards a meal at the Telegraph Hotel.

Hopefully the number of players playing this event will warrant this excellent prize.

capsule. Legend has it that ·he drove to Mascot airport early, drained the fuel from the car, checked in his baggage and his Austin 7, and was met at Christchurch airport by a friend with a one gallon tin of petrol. After filling the car, he got in it and drove off on his rally.

He was also a member of the Veteran Car Club, Sunbeam Talbot Darracq Register and frequently travelled to the UK and participated in their continental tours.

Paul aspired to sharing his own interests in technological development with others. To this end, he imagined setting up a motoring and technical museum. However, his aspirations were not to be met. He suffered a cardiac arrest whilst mowing his lawn in 1992. He made a bequest to the National Trust, hoping his dream of a working museum might be achieved after his demise. This was impracticable for a number of practical and legislative reasons. The bequest to the National Trust was therefore adjusted to preserve the key items of his collection, and to promote the use of vintage and veteran transport.

Orange District Antique Motor Club - Autumn Tour The Blythe Family Autumn Tour Story Our love of veteran, vintage, and indeed all types of motoring is a passion that spans all four generations of our family.

My Dad, Allen, has instilled in all of us a love and understanding of these vehicles from The family group gathered in front of our vehicles in Dubbo, 2021. a very early age. 1927 Chev, 1929 Chrysler, 1930 Chrysler, 1912 Napier, 1917 Buick.

Never too young to learn to appreciate the engineering skills that went into building them, and never too young to learn the little tips and tricks of everyday maintenance to keep them running. And while the third and fourth generations have varying levels of ‘enthusiasm’ for the cleaning, polishing and general maintenance, they all love riding in, and driving the old cars, and the family times we spend together with the cars are always so much fun!

My Dad has always been a Buick man and most of our vehicles are from the General 1929 Chrysler. All original and had only Motors group, although we do have an Austin 69,000 miles on the Odometer when we 7, a Napier and a Chrysler to round out the purchased her about four years ago. This collection. The truck and the 17 Buick were was Nanna’s car, because she wanted both restored as family projects thirty plus windows instead of side curtains. That’s years ago. The 29 Chrysler and the 25 Buick our 56 Buick in the background. are both original and we try to maintain them as original, and the 1912 Napier was restored back in the 1960’s by it’s previous owner.

Our first Autumn Tour was in Dubbo in 2016.

We had the best experience there and have been back to every Autumn Tour since then.

This year we are planning to bring five vehicles along, being the 1912 Napier, 1917 Buick, 1925 Buick, 1927 Chev truck and the 1929 Chrysler, and cousin Stuart’s 1930 Chrysler will make six.

When we get together with the cars the main objective is to have fun. Everyone gets to have a go at driving all the vehicles and the only rules we have are to always treat the vehicle with respect, and if you break it, you help fix it. The 1925 Buick. Unrestored, a bit rough, The family group this year will range in age but so much fun to drive, and if the local from six to ninety-eight, and we can’t wait to kids want to crawl all over it, that’s ok. get there and create some more memorable moments together. – Kerrie Hughes The Blythe Family Vehicles in the Autumn Tour this year are numbers 25, 26, 27, 28, 40 & 104.

The 1927 Chevrolet Truck. Restored as a family project long ago, this truck is a blast to drive down the road. It’s also very handy for carrying lunch, tables, chairs and other items to make our days out more comfortable.

The 1912 Napier. With a long sequence for the starting procedure, and the gear lever on the outside of the vehicle, she can sometimes be a challenge to drive!

The 1917 Buick. Restored as a family project to participate in the 1978 International Rally. We were still working on it half way to Brisbane!

The Sultana Family

In 2009 Chris Sultana and his family attended their first Autumn Tour. On that occasion 5 cars were entered and it was the first time we had had so many cars from the same family attend. Since that time the Sultana’s have been regular participants in the Autumn Tour and we are pleased that Chris’s sons Frank, Paul, Michael and daughter Marianne Gatt have entered again.

On Chris’s passing all his cars remained in the family with his 6 children and 3 grandchildren. The breakdown of ownership is Joe Sultana – A Model Ford, Frank Sultana – 1929 77 Chrysler Royal, Marianne Gatt - 1906 Cadillac & 1929 Buick Marquette, Paul Sultana – 1928 Model A Ford, Peter Sultana – 1930 Chrysler 70 (Chris’s favourite), Michael - Sultana 77 Chrysler Royal.

Grandsons Kane, Jake & Ryan have a 39 Cadillac la Salle, 37 Dodge D5, 1928 Chevrolet truck & 1948 Bedford truck. Mary still retains the 1913 Vulcan and a AA Model Ford Truck.

Chris Sultana had a passion for restoring vintage cars and the family has sent us a chapter from a book written in 2012 titled “The Life & Times of Chris and Mary Sultana”. Edited excerpts from the chapter are below:

CHRIS’ PASSION – VINTAGE CARS Chris developed a passion for vintage cars in his teenage years while still in Malta, where, in those days, in the 1930s, most of the cars were what we would call today “vintage” cars.

In fact, for many years after that, the Maltese government had a policy that did not allow the importation of new cars so as to avoid foreign exchange capital outflows from Malta, a policy which continued right up until the early 1980s. As a consequence, Chris grew up with vintage cars and he developed an understanding of the mechanics of these cars, becoming quite good at fixing those that had broken down. He was regularly called upon by friends and relations to help them with the repairs and maintenance of their cars.

Invariably, those who had cars in Malta and Gozo in those days were the few professional people who, needing vehicles for their businesses, would purchase the cars but did know how to drive them!

This is where Chris came in.

These professional people who were able to afford to buy a car would often ask Chris to not only chauffer them, but also to teach them how to drive and service their commercial vehicles.

This began Chris’s life-long passion with veteran and vintage cars.

Chris purchased his first veteran car: a UK manufactured 1913 Vulcan Tourer in c. 1976.

In March 1978, Chris and Mary went on their first veteran car rally to Katoomba along with their four youngest children: Marianne, Paul, Peter and Michael. This rally included approximately thirtyfive cars, all of which were immaculately restored. They made for a great sight driving through from Sydney to the Blue Mountains and many people stood on the side of the road to wave them on, enjoying the beauty of the vehicles. This first trip increased their passion even more for the vintage/veteran cars, including the social aspect where they made friends and enjoyed each other’s company with the vintage/veteran cars as part of their common interests.

In 1978, Chris and Mary went on their first International veteran car rally from Sydney to the Gold Coast...This was their first taste of an international event. One can only imagine how exciting it must have been for Chris and Mary to find that more than 400 vehicles had come from all over the world. It was seen to be such an important event that the Prime Minister of the day, the Hon. Malcolm Fraser MP, was there to wish the participants a happy and safe trip.

This was the beginning of a life-long passion for veteran and vintage cars in their lives, which has played a major role in their social and cultural activities right to this day. This has continued in the form of yearly rallies where their children join them, whenever possible and they greatly enjoy the experience. Now even the grandchildren accompany “Nanna” and “Nannu” and, who knows, one day the great-grandchildren might even join them!

They would like to feel that, upon their passing, their children would enjoy the use of these vehicles as much as they have.

Furthermore, they hope that this family tradition will be maintained by future generations of the Sultana family.
