Thank you to the Roberts family Iconic "Bakery" to close

Without a new long-term lease on offer - Paula and Brenden Roberts, their family and loyal staff have no other option but to walk away from the Molong Bakery business they have built over the past five and a half years in the historical main street building.

With the building on the market - it is unknown what the popular cafe/bakery space will become in the future. From tomorrow (Friday) the doors will close - and Molong will have another vacant building.

However, for the Roberts family - given their 5+ years of opening in the dark of the morning to prepare breakfasts, take-aways, packed lunches for tradies, travellers, local business owners and community members - continuing to operate the business without an extended long-term lease does not make good business sense.

Sadly, Paula and Brenden will be closing the front doors of the Molong Bakery tomorrow. This will be a sad day for the whole community.

Particularly when Molong is on a growth curve with a very positive future.

For the Roberts family - this community would have liked to have seen a new long-term lease provided by the building owners as a rural style goodwill gesture which this community stands for.

On behalf of the Molong and District community the Express would like to thank Paula, Brenden and the Roberts family and their dedicated staff for helping to build this town, and in attracting tourists and travellers to town.

We wish them well - and hope they have many long and welldeserved 'sleep-ins'.

"Last coffees" are being served by Brenden and Paula Roberts and their cafe team at the Molong Bakery. Tomorrow (Friday) is their last day. (See story above). The couple, their family and staff are very sad to be closing the doors of their popular, viable business. However, they have no choice given the current circumstances.

"We would like to thank all of our family, staff, customers for their loyalty and support during the five and a half years we have operated the Molong Bakery" said Paula. "We have been proud owners and operators of the business. And proud to have been able to provide jobs and invest to help build Bank Street and to help the wider Molong and District

communities through some very tough times."

"Our last day will be 'dress up' day - where we will be serving last coffees and food."

"This will be followed by a garage sale of the bakery/ cafe assets" said Paula.

What an NRL Debut for Cody Ramsey !

As legend tells it, Saint George was a dragon-slaying Christian martyr; a true hunk by Medieval standards.

Cody Ramsey of Molong has joined the story of the Medieval legend his club is named after.

Last Saturday he joined the other dragon-slayers at the fabulous WIN Wollongong Stadium after his surprise selection for the NRL game between the Dragons and the Canberra Raiders. Whilst the green machine won the match ... Cody Ramsey's first official game in the big league was sensational - fast, super fit, smart, strategic, athletic, the young man from Molong and Manildra Rhinos was able to cross the line twice for his team.

In Wollongong we are told by the locals that both Cody and his mum, Kim Stojanov are legends. Cody for his remarkable first game in the big league ... and Kim who delightfully swore on camera (in delight!) when her

Cody Ramsey: Molong Boy’s Weekend Debut in the NRL Big Smoke

by Emily Gobourg Over the years, we’ve seen one of our smalltown Molong kids playing local club footy around the Central West – and more recently, in the Perth Nines – but we’re seeing this remarkable young man playing with the real big boys now: and it doesn’t get much bigger than running onto the field in the starting line-up, with the St George Illawarra Dragons; one of Australia’s most famous rugby league clubs.

20-year-old Molong boy, Cody Ramsey, made his first grade NRL debut over the weekend, running onto the field next to the likes of household footy names such as Aitken, Frizell, Hunt, and McInnes.

Then promptly scored two tries and was denied an apparently offside third.

With what seems like a long way from junior club days with the Cabonne Roos, Bloomfield Juniors, CYMS JRLFC, and the Manildra Rhinos, local communities got to cheer Cody on, while we watched him shine in (the most) official red and white colours.

Kim Stojanov, Cody’s beaming-with-pride mum, talked about the emotional highs after his debut was first announced last week.

“I was bawling when he told me... I cried for three hours!”

With the many years of local league footy under his belt, Kim says Cody’s recent NRL joy has been an overall team effort, which extends far outside the realm of sports.

“Cody’s been brought up in Molong his whole life, he’s done his 20 years here; and the whole village has helped raise him too – so it’s not just us (his immediate family) that are proud of and excited for him, it’s our whole community out here.”

With Cody holding Kim’s “baby boy” title out of her two sons, she talked about Cody’s extremely close connection and bond with her eldest son, Jesse; Cody’s brother, and his biggest supporter.

“Cody has been a Dragon’s fan his whole life – so have I, and so has his dad, Jamie. Cody’s big brother Jesse has always been a Roosters supporter, but now... he’s the Dragon’s biggest fan.”

Ramsey more than held his own on the wing in the clash against the Canberra Raiders at WIN Stadium in Wollongong, proudly sporting the number five on his back.

While the Dragons didn’t take home the overall win, Cody’s two incredible tries put eight points on the scoreboard – the only numbers for the St George Illawarra team.

Whilst the Autumn/ Winter months seem to have less incidents (frosty cold nights!) all seems to change when the warmer Spring/ Summer nights come around.

Last week, a local resident reported to the Express the ‘blowing up’ of a brick letterbox at Yuranigh Court (corner of Edward/Molong Streets). Sounds like a home-made explosive was used - so lucky there were no injuries ... or were there?

The week before - a vehicle (unlocked) in front of a home in Molong Street had personal items including a wallet stolen.

Over the weekend - reports on Spread the Word Molong site “Vehicles broken into again along Watson Street/Molong Street.The message = “Please let police know if you were robbed, or you saw any one going into house yards after 11pm last night.

Look out for each other.

Also be on the lookout for Makita tools being sold cheap.

Another resident reported “car alarms were going off way before 11pm in Molong street last night one alarm sounded towards Riddell and Bank stree”.

Keep an eye out ... Offenders and silly people need to remember that Molong is a proud town with a community who look out for each other. Message is ...

Both the community and police will work together to ensure you are caught.

Another report ... a white twin cab ute travelling on the outskirts of town along the highway caused concerns about the ‘floating and unwinding cable’ that was obviously not locked into position. “The speed of the vehicle and the cable being dislodged from the ute onto the road could have caused a nasty accident to another vehicle, cyclist or pedestrian. The driver continued on through town obviously unaware of the long length of cable ‘snaking’ its way behind the ute. I reckon it (the cable) could have extended from our end of the highway to the caravan park.”

Queensland Premier, Anastasia Palaszczuk apparently hasn’t won the war on border closure.

As happens when the word ‘NO’ is used - keen travellers will find a way. We hear it is actually quite easy for caravaners to cross the borders into Queensland - with a large number of Victorian and NSW number plates and holidaymakers noticeable across the state.

Same old perhaps. Those who follow the rules are refused (unless with the AFL) - those who don’t follow the rules are still getting across.

The St George Illawarra Dragons issued the proud Ramsey crowd with around 45 game tickets for Cody’s nearest and dearest to attend his debut game on Saturday. The acclaimed club also included an additional 20 tickets for Ramsey’s mates to celebrate in one of his biggest, and most proudest moments to date.

“Cody’s humble as, but he’s worked really hard for this” said Kim. Cody - you’ve truly done your hometown proud, mate.

The late Graham (Pee Wee) Smith could not have been more proud than the moment he accepted the prestigious 2010 Regional Achievement & Community Award on behalf of the people of Cumnock at a special awards dinner.

Pee Wee was respected and well loved by Cabonne communities.

Now resting peacefully - he will remain loved and remembered Rhonda Watt of Cumnock was a good friend of Pee Wee and his wife, Geraldine (deceased), and their daughters Katrina, Merryn, Alison and Jessica.

The Express asked Rhonda to write something about the man who was a leader of the Cumnock community, owner/operator of the Cumnock General Store, President of the Cumnock Progress Association, Cabonne Councillor. Thank-you Rhonda.

“Graham Smith was a key person in the Cumnock community His ability to become involved in so many aspects of Cumnock was always taken in his stride.

He always put in 110% when it came to doing something for his family and community.

Graham was always on hand for community functions, fundraising and projects that improved the village.

He and Geraldine worked so hard for Cumnock and they are both greatly missed. You rarely get such strong dedication from volunteers, but the Smith family duo were such valued, willing people.

The deep obvious love for his family and community shone so brightly.

His family were the most important thing to him. Geraldine (dec) and his 4 girls Katrina, Merryn , Alison and Jessica.

His greatest joys were his girls and he never really recovered from the loss of Geraldine in 2010.

We will miss his wonderful laugh and smile but the memories will remain. We give thanks to Graham as a strong leader and for the family man and community person that he was.

by Alise McIntosh Last Thursday, September 10th, was R U OK? Day, the national suicide prevention day, in which we are all reminded to ask those who may be struggling with depression and anxiety, ‘’Are you okay?’’.

The aim of the day is to raise funds and awareness surrounding mental health. R U Okay?

Day also aims to start a meaningful dialogue, in order to empower everyone to connect with, and support anyone in need, as well as encouraging those that are suffering, to reach out and seek help.

R U OK? Has developed a four-step program that includes asking, listening, encouraging action and checking in.

Since the inception of R U Okay? Day in 20011, over $95,000 has been raised to aid suicide prevention.

R U OK? Day is particularly important in Australia this year, due to the short- and longterm effects of both the COVID-19 pandemic and the devastating 2019/2020 bushfire season.

With suicide already being the leading cause of death among Australians aged between 15 and 44, and with a projected 25 percent increase in suicide rates during the pandemic, it is now more important than ever, to bring attention to such an important topic.

The recent lockdown, isolation, and social distancing due to Covid-19, made for an incredibly difficult time for people to have access to their many support networks. This has led to heightened anxiety and depression.

As well as the loneliness caused by isolation, many people have also been forced into

Molong remembers Graham (Pee Wee) Smith In his final years, Pee Wee was the kind elderly gentleman who moved into one of the new townhouses in Edward Street, Durack Court. He often walked to Bank Street where he shopped and was happy to stop and have a chat.

We know that it was a challenging time for him, healthwise, but we loved seeing him and we all kept an eye on him.

Eventually, due to declining health, Pee Wee became a resident of Prunus Lodge. At first he continued his walks to Bank Street remembering our names, and giving a wave as he walked by.

He was a lovely man - with a number of Molong residents remembering Graham as a Cabonne Councillor and owner/operator of the Cumnock General Store - and a leader of that community.

We extend the sympathy of the people of Molong to Graham and Geraldine’s daughters and their families, to the people of Cumnock and district and give thanks that Molong was able to care for this fine man in his final years. Rozzi and Paul, Molong Express

The aging Australian population has been greatly affected by the pandemic, not only due to the risk factors associated with catching the coronavirus, but also due to the uncertainty of virus transmission, and the loneliness that isolation has caused.

Since NSW has come out of isolation, there have been many programs put into place to assist our aging population to return to normality.

In Molong, the Community Garden Group, Country Women’s Association, Probus Club and Molong Health One, have all provided opportunities for residents to socialise and engage in activities that aid with both mental and physical well-being.

Have a Get Ready weekend with family, friends and neighbours

Cabonne Council is encouraging families, friends and neighbours to use the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) Get Ready Weekend (19-20 September 2020) to prepare for bushfire season and start a broader conversation about being aware of and prepared for all hazards.

“The 2019/20 bushfire season was the most devastating bushfire season in our State’s history. It was a stark reminder of the danger of fire. It was also a reminder of the importance of being prepared and having a plan,” Mayor Kevin Beatty said.

“In the lead up to our next fire season - with the previous one in the not so distant past and the impacts still being felt across NSW - communities are understandably keen to know more about getting ready.”

To support early planning and preparation, NSW RFS will once again host their annual Get Ready Weekend on 19-20 September, in person and online. Please follow your local RFS brigade’s Facebook page for information as it becomes available.

Commissioner of Resilience NSW, Shane Fitzsimmons encouraged everyone to have a conversation around being prepared for emergency, whatever the hazard may be.

“This year alone has been one of unparalleled emergencies.

Communities across NSW were first impacted by drought, bushfire, then storm and flood, now pandemic and all in quick succession. This has highlighted how important it is to be prepared for all hazards.

“Our emergency service organisations do an incredible job keeping us safe, but they can only do so much. Being aware and prepared is everyone’s

responsibility.”

Features History : William Lee and Larras Lake Will Lee at the Molong Historical Museum last Saturday “All I can say is that the Lee family owe a lot to Sarah Smith, the 16 year old servant that stole 8 yards of fabric and 2 silk handkerchiefs and who never knew what chain of events she had set in place.

We also owe a lot to William Pantony, who became the children’s father protecting them and looking after them as children. Also we owe a lot to William Cox who gave Lee his first start in life.

William Lee’s sons and daughters became the new gentry in the colony. They lived a life that could have never been possible in England.”

The ‘Lady Juliana’ - the ship which followed after the First Fleet - arrived in Botany Bay with an all female cargo.

William Lee - A man of vision

Will Lee shared the story of his family’s early settlers at a special afternoon ‘local history’ event at the Molong Historical Museum. The well attended gathering last Saturday was held in the open courtyard at the back of the stone building where the architectural features provided an insight into what was one of Molong’s earliest buildings - and the early life and settlement of Molong. A fitting venue for Will’s story of his ancestors journey from the overcrowded streets of London to Larras Lake. Enjoy!

Sarah Smith - ‘Lady Juliana’ - Port Jackson - Norfolk Island: In April 1788 a girl, by today’s standards a child, of 16 was working as a servant for a London family when she was discovered to have stolen 8 yards of cloth and 2 silk handkerchiefs belonging to her employer.

After running away she was caught 2 days later and brought to justice. Her defence was that she was in distress and that is what drove her to it. She was found guilty and sentenced to 7 years transportation.

In June 1789 the ship the ‘Lady Juliana’ departed England arriving at Port Jackson nearly a year later in June 1790 when Sarah was 18. The fledgling colony of NSW was starving and was not wanting to have even more mouths to feed.

Sarah may not have known it, but she was one of the lucky ones, having been transported on a ship with an all female cargo. The government of the day was keen to get some females out to the new colony and therefore had a government representative on board. The female convicts were not shackled like their male compatriots on the other ships but were allowed to go above deck and to walk around. Only five souls died on the trip. This was in stark contrast to the male convicts on the rest of the second fleet where a total of 40 % died either on the voyage or as a result of the trip upon their arrival. The ships chartered by the government were owned and operated by slave traders who were paid per head of convicts transported dead or alive. After staying in NSW for a couple of months, Sarah was transported on the ship ‘Surprize’ to Norfolk Island arriving there in August 1790.

George Lee - ‘Admiral Barrington’ Port Jackson - Norfolk Island: Meanwhile back in England George Lee in 1789 aged 42 was tried at Maidstone Kent for stealing at Dartford sundry articles of wearing apparel, presumably he was cold or perhaps had an eye for fashion! For this crime he was sentenced to 7 years transportation but in the meantime was transferred to Censor Hulk at Woolwich.

On the 27th of March 1791 he journeyed to NSW by the 3rd fleet ship ‘Admiral Barrington’, arriving at Port Jackson on 16th October 1791. In November of the same year he was transferred to Norfolk Island aboard the ‘Atlantic’.

On Norfolk Island he met Sarah Smith. There was probably no formal marriage, but in 1794 he fathered William Lee and in 1796 Maria Lee. When her first child was born in 1794 Sarah would have been 22, her partner George was 47, but no doubt he was not only her partner, but also her protector.

The children were known by their mother’s name in accordance with a decree by the governing body as the mother could always be traced easily, and so the young currency children William and Maria Smith began their life in a penal settlement on remote Norfolk Island.

George died not long after the birth of his second child Maria, on 28th June 1796 on Norfolk Island - apparently of drowning. Had he left a family back in Kent? At this stage we do not know.

Sarah was left alone with one 2 year old boy and an infant child. It is here that another part of the jigsaw comes in as Sarah aged 24 needed a protector so she took up with another convict by the name of William Pantony, presumably not long after the death of George. Pantony had arrived on Norfolk Island a couple of months after George and was about the same age (44).

In 1804 Sarah died, I could find no cause of death, some say it was a shipwreck but I can’t see that she would not have left her children behind.

She is recorded as having died on Norfolk Island . She was 35. William was 10 and his sister 8.

William Pantony - William and Maria Patony - ‘Buffalo’ - Van Diemen’s Land - Murder: The Lee family have a lot to thank William Pantony for, as he looked after the children and in 1805 he took them with him on the ship ‘Buffalo’, presumably as their guardian and stepfather to Port Dalrymple Van Diemens Land where they stayed for several years, returning to NSW in 1811 where Pantony was given a full pardon. The children by this stage went under the name Pantony and young William Smith Pantony was aged 17. In 1813 Pantony aged 61 married again and was granted land at Eastern Creek. In May 1819 disaster struck again when Pantony was murdered by Mathew Finnighan, who was indicted for the wilful murder at Richmond.

William Pantony Jnr - Lieut. William Cox - Blue Mountains - Grant of Cattle - Kelso: After returning from Tasmania William Pantony junior - as he was known - lived with Pantony but was placed in the care of Lieut.

William Cox of Clarendon near Windsor, who had noticed this industrious youth and took him with him when building the road over the Blue Mountains - 12 feet wide and 101 miles long commissioned by Governor Macquarie.

I’m not sure how much road building William Pantony Junior did. He was probably more of a man servant for Cox, but in 1816 he was recommended by Cox to be given a grant of government cattle and 134 acres at Kelso.

William Lee - Claremont Cottage Wollaroi - 134 acres to 300 At about this time William Pantony Jnr reverted back to his genetic father’s name of Lee. In March 1821 William Lee married Mary Dargin at Windsor and lived for a short while at Claremont cottage just behind St Mathews church, which still stands today. Soon after he took his bride to Kelso where he lived in his first house called Wollaroi. His grant of 134 acres was extended by Governor Brisbane to 300 acres as a reward for his industry. Later in 1828 he built another house that he called Claremont (which doesn’t exist today) Governor Darling talked to him about the plans for his house and viewed the location.

William Lee - William Lawson George Cox - Bathurst - Capertee Bylong: William accompanied William Lawson on his first trip to Mudgee, and George Cox on his journey northward and eastward of Bathurst gradually acquiring considerable property in the Bathurst district. One of his early places was in the Capertee valley (Pantony’s Crown was named after him) and at Bylong, according to some sources, the Aboriginals guided him and

showed him promising new pastures.

This is Alfie: the newest furry member of the Oxman pack.

His dedicated owner, Jodie Oxman, was visiting the RSPCA in Orange to adopt a chicken, when she heard a distinguished bark from the back kennels; and she knew it was a Dalmatian bark.

When she asked about the ‘Dallie’ behind the bark, she was told that he was surrendered due to deafness.

A (then) pack of five rescue dogs, with two deaf Great Danes already in the mix, Jodie couldn’t help the rising

nostalgia; as her last Dalmatian love - also a deaf beauty - passed after 21 years of blissful companionship.

After an endless stream of thinking, relentless pushing from close friends, and a rather ambitious discussion with her partner, Jodie went to visit Alfie… and she fell in love.

Alfie was adopted just a week later, and brought home to the Oxman farm in Cumnock to live his days out with his new pack; an instant-family-recipe of five furry sisters.

Having confidently learned a whopping 13 hand signals since his rehoming, Alfie has not long had his very first birthday; and loves his brand new life as canine number six.

Holly Klein: The Newest Addition at the Freemason’s Hotel

by Emily Gobourg 16-year-old new apprenticeship chef, Holly Klein, is said to have a unique ‘gift’ when it comes to whipping up beautiful meals and desserts; with one of her colleagues saying she’s “just got it.”

Originally from Lithgow, Holly’s family relocated to Manildra around six years ago, before settling here in Molong for the past 18 months.

Since she was a little girl, Holly says she’s always had an interest in cooking: with her tips and tricks in the kitchen growing as a learned skillset along the way, through the joys of cooking with her mother, and her nan.

Holly’s favourite dish to create, she (humbly) said, is to cook “anything that makes anyone happy.”

Features William Lee and Larras Lake From page 6 Bathurst - Macquarie River - Bell River - 2430 acres - Shorthorn Cattle Nyngan - Rivers: From Bathurst he followed the Macquarie River with his cattle and arrived at Wellington where he went up the Bell to what is now Larras Lee. He was granted 2430 acres there at Larras Lake, he introduced Shorthorn Cattle to the Central West in about 1826. ( recorded in 1832 but occupied before then). He also travelled further out west and settled at Nyngan station and Bulgandramine on the Bogan River. He took up places on the Castlereagh River and the Lachlan River down to Lake Cowal.

Massacre of the Aboriginals on the Bogan - Clash - Squatters Petition Rejected: In 1842 William Lee was held morally responsible for a massacre of the Aboriginals on the Bogan River. A party of Lee’s men were attacked by the natives and a number were killed, the survivors summoned the police and a massacre of the Aboriginals followed. This event resulted in a sharp clash between the squatters and Governor George Gipps when a public meeting at Bathurst deprived Lee of a depasturing licence for the Bogan River.

Lee’s men had moved from a licensed area to a prohibited area, searching for water during a drought. The Aboriginals were protecting their resources and the clash ensued. From that incident Lee lost his license as all of NSW was leasehold at the time, and the Legislative Council rejected the squatters petition for an amendment to the Crown Lands Occupation Act.

William Charles Wentworth - Privy Council in London - Precedent for Freehold Title: Undaunted Lee got his friend William Charles Wentworth, another currency lad, who like William had grown up with his convict mother, Catherine Crowley on Norfolk Island, to appeal the case in the Privy Council in London. In the case Lee versus the Crown, Lee won, represented

by Wentworth. That case was one of the cases that was used as a precedent for freehold title to become the norm in much of NSW.

Edward Lee had land in Sydney and was a lawyer and I think had something to do with the defense of Ben Hall. Obviously he wasn’t very good at his job! Henry Lee lived at Bathurst in Wollaroi where he was burned to death after a curtain caught fire in his bedroom.

The Lee family bred many top race horses The Barb and Zulu being just two of them. The Barb certainly ran at Larras Lake for a while as a young horse.

Death of William and Mary Lee: William Lee died at Kelso on the 18th November 1870 aged 76 and is buried at the Holy Trinity Churchyard at Kelso. His wife Mary died in 1886 aged 87.

At the time of death William Lee’s estate was sworn at 41,000 pounds and held land both freehold and leasehold in the county The descendants of William Lee on the family property - Netta, Henry, of Wellington, Emu Plains, Bathurst, on the Demelza, Will standing at the original stone wall entrance.

Lachlan River and Lane Cove. I’m not sure if some of his holdings had already been passed onto his sons. .

The Barb (1863–1888) was an Australian bred Thoroughbred racehorse, famed for winning the 1866 Melbourne Cup, the Sydney Cup twice, and other quality races.

He was bred by George Lee and foaled in 1863 at Leeholme, near Bathurst, New South Wales.

Member for Roxburgh: As a result of his stoush with Governor Gipps, William Lee sat in the first Legislative Assembly in 1856 as the member for Roxburgh. His parliamentary record is listed as unremarkable and I think was driven by a personal gripe with the Governor over grazing rights.

Lee Family - Properties - Race Horses - The Barb and Zulu: William Lee had seven sons and four daughters. All of the sons ended up with property somewhere. William Lee his eldest son was given property around Bathurst and was one of the first students at the Kings School in Parramatta. John Lee his second eldest had a place at Bylong where he ran Shorthorn cattle and built his house Karralee at Bathurst where The Scots college now is. Thomas Lee took up his holdings down on the Lachlan river.

James Lee the next eldest son, was a twin with Eliza who died as an infant aged 5. James is my direct descendant and is my Great Grandfather and it was he that lived for most of his 90 year life at Larras Lake. He only had one eye and wore a patch over that eye having lost it on the first train ride from Sydney to Penrith, where a coal from the train burnt his eye out. George Lee the next eldest had a place on the O,Connell plains he called Leeholme and he was the grandfather of Ida Traill, he was one of the first people to import Alpacas into Australia, but within a few years they had all died out, having been stolen by the locals or speared by the Aboriginals.

From my point of view history isn’t just a story with a plot that plays out. It is far more complex than that whilst people are living their lives dealing with the circumstances that come about. William Lee’s relationship with the Aborigines is interesting, on the one hand there was a lot of collaboration and on his long trips could have easily been speared, and on the other conflict.

I feel sure that William Lee as a currency lad was far more in tune with WC Wentworth’s politics than Macarthur’s.

Macarthur was Sterling not Currency, and he believed that “once a convict always a convict”. He and his ilk were referred to as the “exclusives”.

argued for convict emancipation. He believed that once a convict had done his time, worked hard and became a man of property then he deserved the same rights as any free man.

Wentworth in my view was truly Australia’s greatest native born son. He started the Australian newspaper and was a thorn in the side of Australia’s Military Governors paving the way for a strong democracy in the future.

Macarthur, a much older man was more at home with a structured society based on class.

It was important for me to cover this early part of the Lee family’s story as William Lee was pretty much self educated, he must have learnt many bush skills from the aboriginals, and knew where the best land was.

Walla Gala Day 2020

Rugby Union

Emily Gobourg Molong Recreation Ground will host its first “Walla Gala Day 2020” for the Molong Magpies Junior Rugby Union Club on Sunday, 20th September.

This last gala day of the (short) season will kick-off with games starting from 9:00am, showcasing two-games-a-piece from our three junior rugby union age groups: the U6’s, U8’s, and the U10’s teams.

Our Molong Maggies will be up against their other Central West Junior Rugby Union (CWJRU) clubs set to play, with Orange City Lions, Wellington Redbacks, Canowindra Pythons, Dubbo Rhinos, Parkes Boars, and Forbes Platypi scheduled to make an appearance.

With support swooping in from the ‘pies club

president, senior crew and parent volunteers, the junior Maggies will see the club pull together to help with field setup, providing referees for the kids’ games, and the all-important task of stationing the BBQ. The event will also see committee member and club legend, Mary Mulhall, take the lead on all things canteen.

Due to NSW Health COVID-19 safety plans, there are very strict spectator limitations, with rigid attendance allocations for this sporting event.

While we pride ourselves on being a wildly supportive community here in Molong, due to the current restrictions; the event organisers of the Walla Gala Day 2020 kindly appreciate your support in spirit.

We had a few new faces but not strangers out with us which was good to see.

Grown steers the trade weights selling from $124 sold from 300c to 380c, while the to $150/head. Light weight Merino prime grown heifers sold from 307c lambs sold to the restockers for to 381c/kg.
