EOFY business tip! Instant asset write-off 2020-2021

A timely reminder to all our Central West businesses that the instant asset scheme was extended as part of the 2020-2021 Federal Budget. The instant asset write-off scheme enables you to write off the entire amount of assets purchased in the financial year they were purchased, so you have until June 30th to take advantage this financial year. It’s great news for people in business as it means that by deducting the full expense in a single year, you can decrease your taxable income and the tax you owe. Assets can be new or used and examples of qualifying assets can be: • Tools and machinery • IT hardware – computers, laptops, monitors, printers • Machinery and equipment • Office and shop furniture and fittings • Kitchen equipment • Signage • Air conditioners • Motor vehicles

As with any business decision, I suggest consulting with your Accountant to make sure the instant asset writeoff 2021 is the right move for your business.

SAFER COMMUNITIES ROUND 6 - FUNDING NOW OPEN

It is important that all members of our community feel safe and secure so I am pleased to announce that Round 6 of the Safer Communities Fund is now open. Through this fund, the Federal Government is providing up to $20 million for early intervention projects and up to $10 million for security infrastructure. The early intervention funding will provide support for at risk young people to help them turn away from crime, build cultural connections and job readiness skills. The infrastructure funding will not only improve security and protect communities through projects such as CCTV, fencing and bollards, it will also keep local people employed, boosting local economies. For more information, to check eligibility or to apply for funding please visit business.gov.au or call my office on 6361 7138.

Emergency Water Infrastructure Rebate Scheme Extended

After campaigning on behalf of our farming communities, I am happy to announce we’ve secured more funding for the On-farm Emergency Water Infrastructure Scheme. Farmers will be able to access a 25% rebate - up to $25,000 - on new purchases and installation costs of water infrastructure projects. This will help in the current drought and assist farmers to be better prepared for future dry conditions. The rebate applies to the purchase and installation of emergency water infrastructure including: • Pipes • Water storage devices such as tanks and troughs associated with stock watering • Water pumps • De-silting works of existing dams, where you can demonstrate that the property does not have access to groundwater • Drilling of new stock water bores and associated power supply such as generators • Other materials or equipment necessary to install the above excluding purchase of machinery • Any freight component to purchase and install the equipment. If you’d like assistance to make your property more droughtresilient, call my office on 6331 0524.

LOWERING ENERGY COSTS FOR COMMUNITY GROUPS IN CALARE!

I am happy to announce that community groups across Calare can apply for a new program to lower energy costs, support local jobs and help reduce global emissions. The Powering Communities Program will fund up to 12 projects in Calare, up to a total of $67,700. Grants of between $5,000 and $12,000 will be available to eligible community organisations, with no co-contribution required. The grant will assist groups to complete projects that save energy and reduce energy bills, such as the installation of solar panels or a battery, upgrading air conditioners, hot water systems or a refrigerator with more efficient models, replacing lighting with LEDs or conducting an energy audit.

I encourage local not-for-profit community groups to visit business.gov.au, call 13 28 46 or contact my office for more information.
