Bank Street traders seek change Molong’s Bank Street is currently undergoing the kind of change that comes when a country town experiences record growth. 2 Fat Ladies, the Pop-Up Shop and Sweetness/Molong Gelato have decided to pass their ‘batons of success and opportunity’ to new owners/operators. “It’s time for us to move on ... and allow new business owners/operators to further build onto what we have achieved.” Helen Livingstone of 2 Fat Ladies has decided to close her fabulous shop after two and a half years in the Western Stores building. The Pop-Up Shop next door has reached its intended stay and will close at the end of January. Earlier this week, Michael and Cheryn Johnson put up the ‘For Sale’ signs on their unique business ‘Sweetness/Molong Gelato’ which they have steadily built over a number of years. The good news is that these businesses have risen above what has been a long-time tradition previously experienced in Molong - i.e. shops/businesses closing due to economic downturn, not enough shoppers, the effects of drought and flooding rains. Bank Street has finally bucked the old trend with these two successful entrepreneurs having simply decided that the time has come to handover the ‘baton’ of opportunity to new owners/operators. No longer the ‘poor cousin’ of Orange - Molong is now able to stand-alone enjoying a new growth experience as more and more highway travellers stopover together with an increase in the number of destination shoppers, tourists and visitors travelling from Orange, Bathurst, Parkes, Dubbo, Wellington, Sydney, Brisbane, Canberra to what they say is a fabulous town, a worthwhile trip and shopping experience. The growing number of new residents in town and district has further cemented Molong as a vibrant town with a positive future.

(Above) Michael and Cheryn Johnson have decided to put their unique business on the market after spending the past 5 years building to what has become a popular and significant themed biz in the region. The good news is that the popular manager, Phil Williams (photographed right) is staying and wants to remain in the business which has grown from lollies, the home of Molong Gelato to include food, music events and wine. “I’m happy to run the business for a new owner” said Phil.

(Right) Helen Livingstone, the creator of 2 Fat Ladies (Lucknow, Crookwell, Molong) has made what she calls a ‘tough decision’ to close her Molong shop - to step back for awhile, travel and no doubt look for another entrepreneurial opportunity. “I love Molong - the people and my customers ... Then again, I might be back once I’ve had a break.” (See P.8 for Closing Sale Bargains).
