Molong's No Show Scarecrow Competition
Molong and district kids haven't had much fun this year with sporting events cancelled, school and entertainment lockdowns, family holidays postponed ... and the cancellation of the annual Molong Show as well as those in outlying villages and towns.

A symbol of the show spirit on display in Molong throughout October When the 2020 Molong Show has been cancelled, but the show society is out to prove that the Molong Show spirit is alive and well. 2020 has spelled the cancellation of the vast majority of NSW’s 192 agricultural shows and as part of a campaign run by the ASC of NSW, the Molong Show Society is joining show societies across the state in displaying a No Show Scarecrow; as a symbol of solidarity for cancelled shows. Molong Show Society President Colin Woodhouse says that while necessary, the Covid-19 cancellations of key events on the social calendar have disappointed organisers, exhibitors, and attendees statewide. “The Molong Show is so much more than an event; it’s a community of volunteers, sponsors,

The Molong Show would have celebrated its 156th year of the show this year. The first ever Molong Show was held in 1864 and has only been cancelled a few times since, due to wars or rain. “Individually we are just a show but as a whole we are the show movement which has been a part of Australian life for well over a century. Agricultural shows in Australia attract six million visitors annually and the volunteer hours required to run the 660 shows makes the show movement the largest volunteer network in the country. The Agricultural Societies Council of NSW has asked all shows to display No Show Scarecrows throughout the month of October.
