Community Forum to gather ideas for Molong A well attended Molong Advancement Group (MAG) Annual General Meeting last week saw the election of a revitalised committee ready to continue Advancing Molong and poised for another stellar year in 2019.

Newly elected MAG Chairperson Peter Batten said, “Following on from a very successful 2018, Molong Advancement Group is looking forward to an even bigger and better 2019. A significant challenge when you look back on 2018 and beyond.”

Peter went on to say, “MAG wants to build on its successes by engaging with the broader Molong

Community to determine where to focus its efforts in the future.”

To kickstart the process, MAG has engaged Caddie Marshall of Orange 360 to facilitate a forum at the Molong RSL Club at 7pm on Thursday, 13 December 2018.

“MAG wants a broad cross section of the community including long term and new residents along with our youth to come to the forum to express ideas about what Molong has to offer as a place to visit, live and work,” Peter said.

No dam at Cranky Rock A proposed dam for Cranky Rock is officially off the table.

Announcing that the dam wall at Wyangala will be raised 10 metres in preference to constructing a new dam at Cranky Rock near Canowindra, Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Water, Niall Blair confirmed the Cranky Rock dam was not preferred.

“Extending infrastructure, building on existing infrastructure has a better opportunity of providing flood mitigation but also of being built, that is why it has come out as a better option.”

Cabonne General Manager to retire After a 43-year career in Local Government, Cabonne Council’s General Manager Stephen Harding will retire in December to spend more time with his family.

Mr Harding said the decision to retire early was one of the most difficult of his long career, but his family came first.

“It has been a pleasure serving the people of Cabonne and working with Councillors and staff over many years,” he said.

“I will miss the support and friendship of the Cabonne family.”

Mr Harding started his career in 1975 at Northern Rivers County Council before moving to Grafton City Council and then Wentworth

Shire Council, where he took up the role of General Manager.

He moved to Molong in 1995 as the Director of Finance and Corporate Services at Cabonne Council.

After serving as the Acting General Manager for a year during the uncertainty of council amalgamations, Mr Harding was appointed General Manager of Cabonne Council in 2017.

His last day in the role will be Friday, December 7.

“I’m sure it will be an emotional occasion, but along with my wife, children and grandchildren I’m looking forward to the next chapter in our lives,” Mr Harding said.

Hot topic, on ice

Member for Orange Philip Donato MP today responded to Premier Berejiklian’s joint press conference with NSW Police Commissioner Fuller this week in which they publically acknowledged the ice epidemic was slipping from their control.

“During the past year I have repeatedly called upon the National Liberal Government to significantly boost the number of police throughout Regional New South Wales, to target illicit drugs, but it’s fallen on deaf ears.” Said Mr Donato.

“It’s no secret that the presence and availability of illicit drugs, in particular Crystal Methamphetamine, or Ice as it is commonly known, is growing across Regional NSW day by day.”

“Evidence of the proliferation of ice is now supported by Commissioner Fuller revealing

that identified drug labs have risen 50% over the past year, and police data showed the demand for ice is increasing.”

“Premier Berejiklian has now acknowledged that this is a massive issue and is of a growing concern, particularly in Regional NSW. The Premier told reporters that several inquiries into this issue have taken place before, however she has now wasted an opportunity to act decisively in favour of yet another costly and time consuming inquiry.”

“The answer is simple; respond to my ongoing calls to significantly boost the number of police and resources to target the manufacture and supply of ice with severe prejudice. Every day spent sitting around a conference table is another day wasted, along with the many lives suffering in the meantime.” Mr Donato said.

Decentralisation is delivering in Orange with huge interest in jobs at the Regional Investment Corporation.

The RIC has received more than 340 applications for up to 32 new jobs, with 85 from the local region.

Minister for Agriculture David Littleproud said this showed decentralisation works – it both provides good careers for locals and brings new people to our regions.

“Country people deserve stable public sector careers just as much as city people do,” Minister

Littleproud said.

Member for Calare Andrew Gee MP said it was great to see that of the 340 plus applications, 85 have come from the Orange region.

“Opening a new government office in a regional area brings economic growth, higher wages and so many flow-on benefits to the broader community and economy,” Mr Gee said.

“These jobs are very welcome in the central west and is another great example of the Coalition Government’s commitment to decentralisation.”

City kids care crusade for Country Cousins in Cudal The families of Cudal primary school are about to get a welcome boost from the North Curl Curl Community, located on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.

Drought relief initiative, Playground to Paddock was designed to connect city kids from Curl Curl to the country kids of Cudal. Fundraising events have already raised over $12,000 which will fund care packages for each of the 84 children attending Cudal Public School.

The effects of the drought have been felt in many communities across the state and Sally Ann Taylor, an active Curl Curl community member, wanted to do something to help.

Sally Ann has family in Cudal, Rob and Jude Cooke, and was aware of the strain the drought was having on the younger members of the Cudal community. Taylor created the Playground to Paddock initiative to not only help out the students of Cudal and their families but also to build a lasting connection for city kids and country kids. This connection would build empathy and understanding for those in need.

She was also adamant the initiative should be fun and engaging to help boost morale.

Taylor journeyed out to Cudal to speak to the community and found that while household items would certainly be welcome there were also other ways to help.

Taylor discovered that two of the main community clubs, the Cudal Tennis Club and the Cudal Swimming Pool had seen memberships dwindle as the financial burden of the drought intensified. After speaking to committees of both clubs, it was decided that each of the care packages would contain a voucher to go towards either membership or lessons. This boost of funds will mean the clubs continue to grow and provide a positive and fun outlet for families to get out and have some fun, taking their minds off the stress of the drought.

Jock Hough, Cudal Tennis Club secretary was stunned by the gesture. “This means so much to us, many people are really feeling the pinch and this will really help us keep the community connected and healthy, not just physically but mentally too. What I love about this initiative is the fact it benefits all of the community because as we all know it’s not just farmers affected by the ongoing uncertainty of the seasons.�

The principal of Cudal Primary School, Melissa Campbell has been overwhelmed by the support. “It is just so wonderful that Curl Curl has chosen our little school to reach out to.

Some of our students do carry a silent burden of drought-related stress. Playground to Paddock will empower these students, enabling them to

take home a Care Package to their families and be a significant boost to their spirits. We are so very grateful.�

North Curl Curl principal, Donna Blatchford is very enthusiastic about the initiative. “The entire school is getting involved. Each class is either writing letters, drawing pictures or making videos of support to send to Cudal to accompany the care packages. Two of our students will be making the journey out to Cudal to present the care packages to each of the students. It’s a very exciting project and it certainly has great educational value for all our students and our teachers.�

Member for Orange, Phil Donato was grateful for the city support. “Many city people are unaware of the struggles our country families are facing on a daily basis.

Receiving this support from a city school in Sydney is really inspiring and makes things a little easier for our country families. The choice to support the Tennis and Swimming Club is wonderful, a joy for families over the coming summer holidays and a well needed financial boost for these crucial community businesses.�

Member for Manly, James Griffin said Playground to Paddock is another example of how city folk can care for our friends in rural and regional NSW. “It’s wonderful to see the Curl Curl community step up to the challenge of helping out our farmers. The care packages will be a great boost for the Cudal students but the longer term legacy of connecting two schools to learn and support each other over a long period will be the true blessing from this wonderful initiative.�

Taylor said “ Curl Curl and Cudal are the first schools to run with the Playground to Paddock idea but it would be great if other schools got on board and chose a country school of their own to support. It’s all about connecting, and in a world where kids are pre-occupied with connecting to Wi-Fi maybe getting out to the country will open their eyes to real and lasting connections that actually make a difference.�

The Express has joined with the Molong Yarn Market, Molong Rotary and the CWA to look at ways to help local farming families through the drought.

With the lack of water for home/family use being a critical problem - the Express has approached Cabonne Council to ask if the showers at the Rec. kiosk may be accessed by local farming families. This is the sort of helpful initiative which could be duplicated throughout the villages and towns of Cabonne.

The CWA has a project in place to help orphaned lambs survive. 'Woolly Jumpers for Lambs' is a colourful project which knitters (women, men and families) can contribute to.

Most local knitters have odd bits of wool that could be used to make a jumper or two for lambs challenged by the cold, loss of mum, and the drought.

Barb Strong of the Molong Yarn Market has

some balls of wool at the Craft Cottage she is happy to pass on to willing knitters. See pattern for 'Woolly Jumpers for Lambs' P.15. The pattern is also available from the Express office or Molong Yarn Market. Finished jumpers and/ or wool yarns can be left at the Express office for collection by farmers and/or for distribution to other areas.

With Molong being a close and caring 'extended family' we have the opportunity to personally hold out a warn hand to farming friends/neighbours. A visit (perhaps take a homemade cake, casserole or a small handmade gift - sit with a cuppa, or a beer and ask R.U.OK. Keep in touch via phone, email or visits. Could there be a more caring gift than that of 'time'?

Whilst there is so much going on at the moment with drought relief projects and programs - the strength of our small communities is to do what we have always done in these times. Stay close, talk, offer a warm hand and show that we care about each other.

Last Friday one of the Euchareena Rd Waste Processing trucks from Orange turned over going around the bend at the top of the hill opposite the Golf Course. Nothing really spectacular, the driver was fortunately unhurt. The waste trucks are tall and top heavy.

The incident however prompted farmers and residents along the route to again express concerns about safety and adequacy of the route to what has always been considered an inappropriate site for a waste dump.

Hopefully a review of the incident will look at the condition of the road including its width and lead to corner improvements.

Meanwhile Orange City Council have applied to make changes to the strict conditions imposed in 2012 by Planning NSW on the use of the site. :KLOH LQ WKH PDLQ WKH\ UHĂ€HFW current conditions - submissions to Planning NSW have been made reminding both Planning NSW and Orange City Council that there is QR MXVWLÂżFDWLRQ IRU FKDQJLQJ DQ\ condition that was imposed to

manage risks to the Apiary industry.

The Council was reminded that it should not be assumed that there are no bees within 5 kms of the site.

While the address of an apiarist’s registered business may be located outside the 5km zone, this has no correlation to where hives are located. A substantial number of hives continue to be consistently located in close proximity to the Euchareena site because of the natural attributes of the locality.

Cabonne is one of 60 regional councils eligible to receive $1 million under the Commonwealth Government’s Drought Communities Program.

See P.6 Please take a look - join in the fun, donate to Little Wings who help rural children in need of travel assistance to medical care - and the Black Dog Institute for research and services for men suffering depression and tough times in their lives.

Note: These two events and the influx of visitors this weekend to Molong and surrounding towns are of high importance in helping local businesses, community groups ... and in turn children, families, men, farmers, graziers across Cabonne and rural NSW. Please take part in welcoming both groups to your town.

"My daughter will be delivering the donated food to the O'Brien's this weekend. Anything at all will help - flour, pasta, rice, cleaning products, toilet paper, tissues and personal hygiene products, dog food etc. etc. food for the boys etc.

WITH ONLY a handful of serious incidents, NSW Police have been able to praise most racegoers for their behaviour over the Bathurst 1000 event.

Operation Hoist targeted anti-social behaviour DQG HQVXULQJ WKH VDIHW\ RI FRPSHWLWRUV RɤFLDOV and more than 200,000 racegoers.

Acting Western Region Commander, Assistant Commissioner Greg Moore said police were pleased with the overall crowd behaviour. “The event is becoming more family-friendly each year, and it is great to see such a positive change in behaviour around the mountain,� he said. “NSW Police have and will continue to work closely with Supercars to not only ensure the event is safe, but it is enjoyable for everyone who attends.�

THE NSW Government has committed $1.2 million to a business case for a new regulator, which will allow better management of water on the Macquarie River.

Minister for Regional Water Niall Blair visited Gin Gin weir recently and said the project will form part of a future water strategy for the Macquarie, which will identify infrastructure and policy solutions for water use in the region. “Water is fundamental to life in our regions and as we are currently seeing, water security in the Macquarie is vulnerable in times of drought,� Mr Blair said.

Member for Dubbo, Troy Grant said previous studies have shown that a mid-system water storage located in the vicinity of Gin Gin weir, and between Narromine and Warren, could provide WKH Ă€H[LELOLW\ WKH ULYHU RSHUDWRUV QHHG WR OLPLW WKH water lost through evaporation and increase the capacity of the Macquarie River to deliver water needed for both productive and environmental purposes. “The purpose of any new regulator will be to create consistency of water supply for agriculture and other industries during both wet and dry SHULRGV DQG WR LPSURYH ZDWHU HɤFLHQF\ WKURXJKRXW the Macquarie system,â€? Mr Grant said.

SCULPTURES in the Garden, was held at Rosby winery in Mudgee over the weekend with over 3,500 people attending, an increase of one thousand people from last year.

These acquired works will be included in Mudgee’s sculpture walk in Lawson Park joining the 14 sculptures already featured.

LAST week Forbes received it’s best rain since November last year but not enough to break the drought after months of below average rainfall.

The 24 hour period up until 9am on Friday was Forbes’ wettest day (26mm) so far this year, but total falls are still well below the same time last year.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology Forbes has received 154.8mm between January and now, compared with 298.2mm in the same period last year.

Forbes’ October’s rainfall stands at 31.6mm and with further rain forecast, farmers are hopeful of reaching the long term average for the month of 39mm.

Last week’s rain was more than September (6.8), August 912.2) and July (0.8) combined.

Molong RSL Sub-Branch - Remembrance Day Molong and district residents stood with members of the Molong RSL Sub-Branch to remember those who had served and fallen in the war 100 years ago - fought on foreign lands.

Of significance was the achievement of President, David Bloomfield and members in the placement of the new memorial which now stands proudly on the Village Green.

The corner of Bank and Gidley Streets looked magnificent in the warm sun of Remembrance Day with the nearby community gardens of red rose bushes and green hedges enhancing the trees and lawns of the Village Green. A touch of community - like no other. On the opposite corner the important architecture of the Commonwealth Bank building blending together with the Coach House, Yarn Market building and the community seating area covered with grape vine and Wisteria. A now briilliant corner of town depicting community of past and present ... and future where lives and memories will never be forgotten.

Manildra dedicates WWI photo collection

By Ann Murray After the end of WW1 the community of Manildra held a meeting to discuss building a memorial to honour our WW1 soldiers.

A committee was formed and the idea of building a Soldiers Memorial Hall was the preferred project.

Land was donated by the Griffith family, fundraising began and donations flowed in.

Within a short time work commenced on the hall and it was opened debt free in 1925.

When the Centenary of Anzac grant was advertised the Hall Committee suggested a photographic display would be a good project and a fitting memorial to celebrate the centenary.

We applied for and were successful in gaining funding and so the project was off and running.

Wow! What a job, we have 93 names on our board and there was only one photo in Canberra.

The local ones were the easiest,

some coming forward quickly, others needing considerable encouragement to allow us to look through those treasured memories.

Then the hard ones - moved away, itinerant workers, teachers and some just untraceable.

We managed to track down 42 photo’s and have put together 8 large frames, names and service numbers are listed in alphabetical order, where we don’t have a photo we have a faded print relating to WW1 with the soldiers name and service number, so if in the future we come up with more photos they can be added.

The next job will be putting the photos together and sending them off to Canberra, adding photos to the War Memorial collection available to the public.

This collection has been compiled to say thank you to our soldiers not just for what they did for our community, but for the sacrifice they made for the good of our country.

They returned. This group of 'vintage riders' from Bateman's Bay and Wollongong promised the Express they would be back after stopping over in Molong during the cold winter months. These three of the 6 intrepid riders returned last week- with their lovely wives - stayed overnight, as before, at the Molong Motel, dined at the Freemasons, shopped in Bank Street - and headed off back home the next day.

"We'll be back with our caravans and family. "We love visiting Molong". Six more visitors who love Molong. The number is growing.

We sure are a lucky town.

MINI REG REG’S BENCH There is the story of a pastor who got up one Sunday and announced to his congregation: "I have good news and bad news. The good news is, we have enough money to pay for our new building program. The bad news is, it's still out there in your pockets."

My ten-month-old was sitting in her high chair, twisting and moving all over the place. My wife said to me, “Straighten her up.”

I looked at my daughter and said, “What are you doing with your life? Do you want to be this way forever? It’s time to grow up.”

My wife hasn’t asked me to do anything since.

I went to see my neighbour and knocked on their door. The lady of the house answered, I thought she looked a bit odd. I asked her if her husband was in. 'Johnny passed away this morning I'm afraid' she said. 'Oh dear, that's awful' I said 'What on earth happened?' 'Well he just told me that he felt a little poorly and took to his bed and that was it' I didn't know what to say. I asked if she was with him at the end. 'Yes. I was' she sobbed. I enquired if he managed any last words. 'Well, yes a few' she said. So I asked her, 'He didn't say anything about a tin of red paint did he?'

Peace at Silver Gull Creek Almost from the day I first met him, sometime after the end of WWII, my relationship with Dad was a troubled one. As far back as I can remember, only once did we have a moment of togetherness, so rare that it’s still clear in my mind.

But though there may be no excuses for his attitude to his family, there were very valid reasons, and as I came to appreciate them my attitude softened.

Young enough to be almost of another generation, my youngest brother, who along with my littlest sister missed the tempestuous earlier days of our family life, helped me forgive him and find some measure of peace in that part of me that always craved paternal affection. Rest easy, Norm.You were loved by a lot of people and I learned to love you before you died.

I’m glad I didn’t become you but I recognised enough of you in me in time to escape.

Cockatoo Island in the Kimberley’s Buccaneer Archipelago, and Alf Brown, a Torres Strait man of Thursday Island, all figure in what I’m about to tell you today, along with another protagonist – a female barramundi almost as big as I was – who didn’t want to be in this story at all but who provided source material for a valuable lesson that, when later in life I came to understand it, shaped my relationships with children and helped my son become

probably be a good spot to hook a barramundi to cook up for tucker so I dipped into my bag.

The Boys who lived in Steinbeck’s flop-house had learned the same lesson as I had: anyone who went abroad in the land without salt and pepper and – along the West Australian coast at least – fishing gear was a dead-set mug.

No-one ever went anywhere without Wax Vesta matches and a line. The lines were of green linen cord almost as thick as number 12 fencing wire and wrapped around a flat piece of wood; the hooks and sinkers were of a size to match. You needed weight to hold the line in the tidal rip and anything that wouldn’t bite on a big hook was bait – with the exception of garfish, long Tom and yellowtail.

In the absence of live bait we used whatever was handy, especially anything light-colored: tinned cheese, peanuts with the red skin rubbed off, white rag dipped in anything oily, a piece cut from a powdered-milk tin and twisted to turn in the current; you could catch fish by just thinking about it back then.

Back to my story. I’d just thrown the line in when Alf came up to me. “Sorry to tell yer this son,” he said dolefully, “knowing all yer worry about ’ome an’ all. But you won’t ketch nothin’ ’ere.

Water’s all wrong.”

Scowling at the spot where my line met the water, I ignored him as best I could; adults, even Alf, weren’t in my good books just then. He’d hardly left my side when – bang! –a big barra hit the hook and, feeling the resistance; hurled herself out of the water. I let out a yell and wrapped a bit of line around a deck stanchion – I knew I wouldn’t be able to hang on just with my hands. Nobody came near me while I struggled with her, and I pulled and belayed, pulled and belayed, hoping like hell that something bigger wouldn’t take a lump out of her till she was tired enough to land.

When at last she was on deck, I stood looking at the brilliant silver body with that mixture of triumph and guilt that to this day still plagues me when I catch a fish. Alf’s shadow crossed us both. “Strike a light, boy,” he said. “My people, we’re saltwater people y’know; we’re big canoe people and we bin fishin’ for t’ousands of

the wonderful person that he is.

Cockatoo Island had very little permanent fresh water and to fill the big storage tanks up on the hill, supplies were brought by barge from Silver Gull Creek. This water barge was towed by the island boat, Yampi Lass II and what with the speed of the tow, the giant tides – nearly 12 metres – and the time needed to pump the water, it involved a two-day trip about once every few weeks or thereabouts, depending on the season.

So, this one time I’m talking about, I’d had a pretty full-on blue with the Old Man and things in the house were pretty much on the toe. I’d stayed away overnight, hidden in the little patch of sandy hillocks by the lagoon, and of course on an island that size there was no hiding the fact that things were a bit crook in the Povah household.

Two-Ton Tony, a mate of Dad’s and the man who gave me his first edition of Tarzan Of The Apes to read, suggested that if I wanted to go over to Silver Gull on the boat, he’d fix it up with Norm and Tas, the skipper and a good mate of both men. No sooner said than done. All set. I could go over on my Pat and not, as was usual, as part of a picnic excursion. You beaut!

Silver Gull was a magical spot, its mouth hidden among the mangroves, crocodiles making its banks exciting and its tide-torn, muddy little estuary promising the attention of voracious sharks and giant stingrays to anyone Express Crossword foolish enough to swim there.

I forgot that it was one of my brown heroes who’d told me that barramundi bite best where saltwater met fresh, and I forgot that Alf came from an island on the other side of the country – and I forgot about my row with Dad. I also remembered I was actually worth something as a human being.

A big saltie croc cruised alongside the Lass, glowering at me for the loss of a free meal, but I ignored the old bugger. I could once again handle anything life threw at me.

While most people were sheltering from the storms which swept through town last Friday a group of intrepid explorers from Molong Central School were heading off into the wilds of the Blue Mountains for their next Duke of Edinburgh Award Expedition. After a very wet and windy start to the trip the group headed into the depths of the Jamison Valley near Katoomba – carrying all that they needed for their 3 days in the wilds.

The group consisting of 9 students, under the guidance of Kevin and Sharon Costa, trekked with their heavy packs deep into the valley, setting up camp in the remote forests of the national park, before heading off for a series of exploratory climbs onto surrounding peaks. On the Sunday the group made the steep, tiring climb back out of the valley and back to

civilization after a challenging trip which saw all students rise to the occasion and handle themselves admirably.

The Expedition component of the Award is one element of the program which has been running at Molong Central School for three years now, with students also completing a Community Service Project, developing their skills in a Hobby area, as well as building their fitness through a program of Physical Recreation. This valuable program has continued to grow at the school with over 30 students now registered with this high-profile international award.

Students on this trip were: Allie Fieldus, Gabrielle Dowler, Letitia Milne, Mardie Campbell, Joshua Dowler, Seth Archer, Jes Pearson, Allyssa Watts, and Jackson Gersbach.

Last weekend, Codey Peschka, Hamish Meehan and Bailey Peschka, pictured above, represented Orange at the under 13s state softball titles in Penrith.

The Orange team finished 5th in the state with three wins and four losses over the weekend. The boys had wins over Penrith 13-9, Campbelltown 13-7 and Sutherland 11-7, and losses against Southern Districts, Macarthur, Georges River and Cumberland Nepean.

On Wednesday 21st we will be hitting off at 8.30. The monthly meeting will be held at the Club house commencing at 7.00pm ******************************** Great day for golf last Sunday. We had two parties of 5 or 6. Not much yelling out over pars or birdies from either bunch.

Lamb numbers decreased this week with agents only yarding 4670 Sheep numbers this week also saw a decrease with agents yarding 2760 This week saw again a decrease in the yarding but it still saw a good selection of trade weight new season lambs, along with a some still a good selection of feeder & restocker lambs. There was a reasonable quality of mutton yarded.

Light weight lambs held firm to $6 dearer, while trade lambs were $9 dearer, lambs to restockers or to feed were $4 cheaper due to the quality, mutton were up again this week $7 to $14 dearer.

Country back on top, Millthorpe struggle Country regained the competition lead with a comfortable win over Magpies, whilst Millthorpe are finding the Molong Cricket Competition hard to crack remaining winless after round 5 of Oilsplus Senior Cricket.

At Hunter Caldwell Magpies Captain Jacob Evans elected to bat after winning the toss. Jacob was immediately whisked away after the toss for a drug test as he’d never won one before. Luckily the test came back negative confirming Jacob was no dope. Country were a bit lost at the start of play as the captain Nigel Brazier was late.

Nigel was chipping Bathurst Burrs, Hawthorn, Cat Heads and Patterson’s curse at the Euchareena showground and simply lost track of time. Magpies batting looked good in patches with buy of the season Ben ‘Chief’ Brown (29), Michael Thompson (28) and Les Hoppa (19) leading the way but they didn’t have much support. Looking good at 2 for 98 at the halfway mark, seven of the following Magpies batsmen could only total 23 runs between then in what can only be described as an inept pathetic performance.

Magpies were bowled out for a modest 161 in the 40th over. Country used seven bowlers, but the standout was Sir Jock Haynes, OBE, MBE, QBE, OAM, BBC, ABC, Aussie of the year etc, etc. Jock took the remarkable figures of 4 for 6, but his loyal team mates were quick to point out, Jock only ever bowls to the tail enders. It’s okay Jock we won’t tell anyone, wouldn’t want the Queen finding out.

Joe Clayton bowled like an escaped Sloth from South America early on but eventually got his act together taking 3 for 46 to remind everyone that he is still the best bowler in the comp and has the trophies to prove it.

John Mulhall had a shocker when bowling, falling over and kicking a Magpies batsmen and then later dropping a simple catch, time to grab some dignity and retire John.

In reply Country were in a bit of trouble at drinks being 5 for 85. However thanks to some great batting by Sir Jock (39no) and Brett Wykes (42no) Country cruised to victory with five wickets and five overs to spare. Openers John Mulhall (36) and

Dan Toynton (23) also batted well. All of Magpies bowlers were dreadful, the worst being Luke Osborn, but he somehow managed to take 4 for 40 and no one knows how. Greg Pringle continues to field with no dignity, head butting a ball whilst fielding and then dropping a dolly shortly after.

At Millthorpe the home team were desperate to record their first win of the season. They were up against fellow new comers Molong Bowlers who won the toss and elected to bat. Andrew Drady who is having a superb season to date continued his good form scoring a blistering century (105). We all know what a talented player Andrew is and are pleased he appears to be focused this season after other seasons of lost opportunities.

Ed Twiss (33) and Matt Tink (78) batted very well allowing Bowlers to post an imposing 242. David Hobbs who’s had more clubs than Greg Norman was out for a duck LBW, much to the dismay of the crowd of 1 who came to watch him.

Millthorpe’s bowlers struggled and made no real impression, A Clarke the best with 2 for 17 from 2 overs.

In reply Millthorpe got no where near Bowlers total being dismissed for 156.

Remarkably, six of Millthorpe’s Batsmen recorded ducks, another out for one and two others scored 4 each. M Grimes scored 36 and Will Oldham a rapid fire 101 saved Millthorpe from a very embarrassing total.

Bodie Johnson 3 for 27 and Ed Twiss 4 for 30 were the chief destroyers for the Molong Bowlers. Millthorpe will now struggle to make the 3 team semis and will need to win many games in a row to be any chance to play finals cricket. Bowlers have established themselves as a real threat and any team that takes them lightly will do so at their own peril.
