Following the cancellation of games against Peak Hill last weekend the Molong Bulls will now hold their scheduled Ladies, Old Boys & Sponsors Day on Sunday 25 July when they host the Manildra Rhinos.

The Rhinos beat Eugowra 18-10 last Sunday to remain No 2 on the Woodbridge Cup ladder.

The Bulls are at No 4but are seven points away from Trundle at No 3, so need a few wins to catch up - including against Grenfell at Grenfell this Sunday.

CTLX CATTLE 13 July

Numbers reduced slightly to see quality lift through the feeder cattle, which provided the bulk of the offering. The cow penning also improved in quality and weight to see significant rises through the heavy drafts. Feeder operators provided strong demand.

Limited steer weaners sold to considerably strong demand despite the lack of numbers, heifers not so much. Yearling steers to feed saw very strong demand, for both medium and heavy weights. Medium weights sold to dearer trends of 19c, the heavy drafts as much as 40c to top at 553c/kg. Very heavy young cattle were up 8c/kg dearer to processors. Feeder heifers also on an upward trend, with a rise of 9c/kg. Trade heifers sold to 17c/kg better.

trend, to be back by 5c/kg. The heavy cows however lifted in weight to see the top drafts sell to 366c to gain 11c/kg. The best heavy weight bulls improved in price by 3c/kg.

CTLX SHEEP 7 JULY

Numbers reduced to offer 6,660 lambs including a small penning of new season lambs and 1,150 grown sheep. The quality of the offering came off slightly, but there was still a well presented offering of heavy lambs as well as a good supply of trade lambs. The usual buying group attended and the market was mostly firm with a few sales showing a slightly dearer trend.

The few new season lambs sold from $180 to $223/head. The light trade lambs on offer sold firm while trade lambs in general sold firm to slightly dearer. Heavy trade lambs were also firm. The extra heavy drafts, while not reaching last week’s high demand, still sold strongly to see a slight rise in the overall averages. A small offering of ram lambs sold to $223/head and hoggets sold to a dearer trend for the few offered.

Ladies

Well we had a lovely day for Golf last Wednesday and we welcomed a new player, Marg Allcorn,

It is so good to have new players come and join our ranks.

Golf will be at Molong next Wednesday 18th. A reminder also that we have another Vets Day coming up on the 16th August.

Sunday Mixed

A glorious winter’s morning for golf on Sunday when fourteen “golfers” turned up for a twelve hole stableford.

In a stableford event instead of counting the total number of strokes taken it involves scoring points based on the number of strokes taken at each hole. I find the scoring system as clear as mud. Al and Ged scored the equal number of points and Al won on a countback. Ged hasn’t played with us for a while but it should be noted that he does have his own private entrance to the golf course.

Darren wore his long distance glasses today which didn’t seem to work because he couldn’t hit a ball out of sight and unfortunately came in last place.

Like a lot of organisations Molong Golf Club only exists because of its volunteers. All the members do little bits and pieces but at the forefront are Scott and Kerry Oates along with Dave, Stubba and Bell. Scott and Kerry do a lot of course maintenance including raking the sand greens before we play on a Sunday. In their absence Bro and Al raked the greens but lack of communication saw them miss one. They naturally blamed each other.

Golf Club President is Mark Oates who answers to Bro and Oatsey among other nicknames that cannot be mentioned. He mostly provides the sausages etc for the bbq after the game and is the reason we still have a Sunday morning competition. If he cannot be there he organises someone else to run it. He is also subject of much banter but keeps coming back for more. Unfortunately it doesn’t help his golf Last week he wanted to tee off a half hour later but didn’t get his way so this week he dawdled around and his last group didn’t hit off until 9.30am so he sort of got his way.

Golf again on Sunday, 8.30am for 9am. Everyone welcome.

Croquet

At last a sunny Saturday and we had 12 players turn up for some Croquet, and all being well we will be there again this Saturday 2.00pm at the Molong Bowling Club

It’s your club!
