Schools Back

Molong Central School Kindergarten Orange with Mrs Erin Tamati

Molong St Joseph's Year 5/6 class

After weeks of learning from home - students enthusiastically returned to the school grounds and classrooms on Monday. But it wasn't the usual set-up. Desks were arranged to separate students and students abided by the state government's Covid-19 guidelines on the first day of its phased return to school plan. Matthew French, Principal of St Josephs, Molong said students began their return to school this week. "As a staff, we made the decision for the students to return three days, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, each week for the next two weeks. This has allowed us to teach Essential Content face to face. We had 100% attendance on Monday. It was wonderful to see the

smiling faces of the children. Students and staff will continue with social distancing guidelines at school. Everyone is encouraged to wash hands as they enter and exit classrooms. Also, extra cleaning procedures have been put in place. Smaller classes have enabled us to continue with social distancing inside the classroom. Flexible learning spaces also play a big role in allowing students their own space, ensuring they have a safe environment to work in. We have had great support from parents with our remote learning. We thank our school community for their support in transitioning the children back to school."

Extra $1 million in Federal Drought Communities funding

Residents of the Cabonne Local Government area will have access to better community facilities after a $1 million injection into infrastructure projects from the Federal Government. The Drought Communities Programme (DPC) Extension funding will go towards the development, upgrade and maintenance of nine projects across Cabonne communities to boost community development, economic stimulus and jobs after the prolonged drought. Calare MP and Minister for Decentralisation, Andrew Gee welcomed funding for the Cabonne area. “Cabonne Shire has been on the frontline of this devastating drought, and while we’ve had some welcome rain, we’re not out of the woods yet,” said Mr Gee. “The Drought Communities Programme has already delivered $1 million in local infrastructure and this further million dollar round will get even more vital local projects cracking. “One of the great things about the programme is that it not only boosts community morale, but also local

economies by employing local builders and tradies to do the work and supply the materials. “The latest round of projects to be funded are going to be warmly welcomed by the communities of Cabonne. Mayor of Cabonne Shire, Cr Kevin Beatty thanked the Federal Government for making the drought funding available. “This will assist our Local Government Area as a whole, stimulating business and employment, particularly for those who have suffered prolonged downturn due to drought,” Cr Beatty said. “Not only will this funding boost local employment and purchases, but it will give us new infrastructure and improvements to community facilities that will provide ongoing benefits for years to come.” The $1 million in funding will be allocated across the following 9 projects: • Two more Central Tablelands/Cabonne water filling stations at Cargo & Cudal • Solar power & battery system for the sustainability of

the Canowindra Golf Club • Fencing projects – Molong Recreation Ground Skatebowl, Cudal Memorial Park Playground, Fencing of playground at Jack Huxley Oval, Manildra and the Manildra Pool • Solid Shade Structures – Cargo playground, Mullion Creek playground • Molong Recreational Ground – new & upgraded cricket nets • Molong Pool – hot water system for showers • Dean Park, Cudal – stage 2 upgrade works including upgrade of kiosk, driveway, parking • Repairs & maintenance of community buildings – Yeoval Museum (repairs), Eugowra RTC (repairs and external painting), Gumble Hall (fencing), Baldry Hall (repairs & painting), Borenore CWA Hall (access ramp) • A range of small footpath projects throughout Cabonne which have been identified in the recent community consultation process for the Cabonne Pedestrian Access Mobility Plan (PAMP)
