Molong youth looking for “a place to call our own” Mia Fitzsimmons and Robert Barnard (with the support of their parents) are wondering if the long-time vacant Police Residence in Edward Street (photographed left) might be made available for local youth.

“We need a place where local kids can meet” said Mia - who at 13 years of age - is willing to help run a centre.

Robert (also 13 years of age) agrees.

“There’s plenty to do in Molong if kids play sport. But there’s a lot of kids who don’t (play sport).”

“We need somewhere we can go, a place to call our own, and be together after school, weekends and particularly during school holidays” said Mia. Whilst Mia and Robert are proud members of Molong’s St. John Cadets and have access to skills building, after school, weekend and school holiday activities - they are both aware of youth in the town who have nowhere to gather and meet - or do activities together. Yeoval to host Lexus Melbourne Cup as part of rural tour The Wellington Times reports Yeoval will play host to a very special guest later this year when the the iconic 18-carat gold Lexus Melbourne Cup tours the town.

Last week at a special launch at Flemington Racecourse it was announced that in October Yeoval will be a tour destination.

Yeoval joins 38 other towns and cities across the globe that will be part of the 17th annual Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour.

Wellington

Wellington pool fee rise proposal The Wellington Times Dubbo Regional Council’s draft 2019/20 budget, proposes an increase in pool fees for swimming clubs For a family, a season pass will cost $514. In Wellington it’s a proposed increase from $260. However, the $514 pass will provide access to all three aquatic centres.

The new Wellington pool is undergoing construction and is expected to be finished by November.

Blayney

IT may be winter, but so far June is proving to be much warmer than average for the Central West.

The Blayney Chronicle reports the region may have already seen its fair share of snow in recent times, but overall June is proving to be warmer than usual with one location recording a mean maximum almost two degrees above average.

Oberon, which is usually known for its very brisk winters, has recorded the highest temperatures above its usual winter median.

The median maximum temperature for the first 10 days of June in Oberon was 11.2 degrees, which was 1.7 degrees above the town’s long-term average.

Bathurst

Suspected stock theft POLICE are calling for information from the public following the suspected theft of more than 60 lambs from a property in the Chifley region.

The Western Advocate reports officers attached to the NSW Police Rural Crime Division say the lambs were taken in the past few months.

“Police from Bathurst are investigating the suspected theft of 62 mixed sex merino lambs (full wool) from a property on the O’Connell Road, O’Connell sometime in the past six months,” Detective Inspector Cameron Whiteside said.

Western NSW motorists losing their licences SIXTEEN motorists in Western NSW have lost their driver’s licence since new drink driving laws were introduced last month.

The Cowra Guardian reports the laws, introduced on May 20, see all drink drivers immediately lose their licence under the tough new penalties.

Even first-time low-range drink drivers will be given an immediate three-month licence suspension and fine of $561.

Of the 16 motorists to lose their licence, five were caught in the Orana Mid Western Police District, with one each in Chifley and the Central West.

“Cudal Central” up & running “Refugee welcome zone”

Cudal has revived its local progress group with the formation of “Cudal Central”. The group was formed in January and communicates mainly via its facebook page.

The President is Jock Hough, Vice President Rach Preddey, Secretary, Heidi Bowden and Treasurer, Kym Chase.

Cudal Central is a group that aims to develop community facilities and create business opportunities for the town.

In a statement the group said that Cabonne Council has asked the group “to develop a master

plan of all the projects we want to work towards for the short and long term.”

A Community Consultation Meeting will be conducted by Caddie Marshall from Orange360 to gain feedback on what individuals and their families would like to see developed in the town.

This information will help planning and prioritising projects.

A popular ‘whinge’ of Bank Street - the Express understands that the ‘loathed’ double lines appeared because of the proven lack of adherence of locals/visitors etc to safety, road rules etc.

Well, we could vouch for that at the Express office where over the years of office occupancy we have viewed - what we gather to be ‘familiarity’ of locals to their main street and the vehicle usage of. Not only Molong - it is easy to identify local drivers in most towns, cities etc.

Whilst there is still an unclear/heavily debated reading of the road rules locals are still unsure what Bank Street’s double lines mean “can they be crossed?”

Regardless, many locals pull out of parking bays and cross the lines. Some even reverse from one side of the roadacross the double lines to a vacant parking bay on the other side of the road! Yes, amazingly, it is a common occurrence.

The ‘white double lines’ issue has been raised a few times now at growMOLONG meetings which is a local group of volunteers and residents who are trying to support the improvement of Molong.

The Mums 4 Refugees, Central West, has gained the approval of Council for the towns and villages of Cabonne Country to join with those of Blayney and Orange to be a ‘Refugee Welcome Zone’.

Although the number of people seeking asylum, and from refugee backgrounds in the Central West is relatively small, refugees have made enormous contributions and a positive economic impact on regional communities across Australia.

For example, in Nhill a small town of 2278 residents in the Wimmera of Western Victoria, has been able to grow in population and received the bonus of 70 new jobs through refugee relocation initiatives. In Hamilton Victoria, a district population decline has been stemmed by a migrant and refugee ‘Welcome Zone’ initiative.

Anna Noonan presented to Cabonne Council last Tuesday at a

special meeting where she spoke of the purpose of a Refugee Welcome Zone.

“This is a Local Government Area which has made a commitment in spirit to welcoming refugees into the community, upholding the human rights of refugees, demonstrating compassion for refugees and enhancing cultural and religious diversity in the community. Refugee Welcome Zones are an initiative of the Refugee Council of Australia.

A detailed description of a Refugee Welcome Zone, list of initiatives and a copy a draft Refugee Welcome Zone Declaration and how to become a member (there are no fees to pay) are available on the Mums4Refugees facebook site.

More than 140 Australian councils have become Refugee Welcome Zones, including Bathurst, Dubbo, Lithgow, Cowra and Parkes.

“If we are going to train our youth to become community leaders and volunteers - I think it is really important for them to start now” said Juarna Barnard.

“David, Robert, our 7 year old daughter, Alice and my mum, Cheryn (Partington) and I love Molong and want to put something back into the community that has welcomed us. We moved here from W.A. less than two years ago. In our first year Robert, Alice, my mum and I were involved in a horror car crash just out of Molong on the Orange road - which left us all with serious injuries requiring hospitalisation in Sydney, Orange and Molong. The local community came to our aid at the accident site and after when we were in hospital - and when we returned home.

Our way to say thank-you is to put something back into this wonderful town and community.”

“Together with Rachel (Mia’s mum) we want to support our kids to look at ways to set up a youth centre and to find a place of their own.”

“The vacant house (see page 1) would be fantastic to use” said David. “Even though some say it is condemned. It is a solid building so surely work can be done to it. Some say the same about the former court house - but I’ve seen worse places that have been restored. It would be a shame to lose both buildings to ‘time and lack of maintenance’”.

Rachel agrees with Juarna about using the court house. “We understand that the court house is still set up inside with timber benches, jury box and witness stand.”

“Maybe we can train future leaders (current youth) to hold formalised meetings in the court house. That’s a good way to build Molong’s future leaders.”

School Captains have their say to Cabonne Council At its last meeting on 28 May, Aaliyah Wright and Josh Dowler, Molong Central School Captains presented their ideas to Cabonne Council to improve facilities for local residents.

They joined leaders from Yeoval Central School and Canowindra High School. Josh and Aaliyah presented their ideas which focussed on the development of a Recycling station, improved toilets in the CBD and upgrades to seating at sports facilities were just some of the ideas presented. Opportunities for young people to socialise seemed to be the common theme that all schools identified. Our Primary Captains supported our Secondary Captains and had an opportunity to hear students from other schools present their ideas.

Canowindra High students Julia Wright and Marshall McKay focussed on youth activities suggesting movie or social nights for students from different schools and perhaps a "Kid's Shed".

Yeoval Central School students Hannah Taylor and Bridget Smith pleaded for the tennis courts to be repaired, a new pedestrian crossing near the school and curb and guttering to assist in getting safely of busses.

The address is coordinated by Cabonne Council each year to ensure the youth of Cabonne have input into council decision-making.

Council management will report back to Council on the suggestions.

This holiday celebrates the 93rd birthday of the Queen. Her Majesty has been on the throne for over 67 years.

The Queen’s Birthday Holiday in Australia was declared by Governor Arthur Phillip on 4 June 1788, and is Australia’s first and thereby our oldest public holiday, It represents not the settlement in Australia of 1,373 Britons arriving in 11 ships, but rather the planting of a seed which has grown into a mighty tree the branches of which now shelter all Australians with law, order and constitutional stability.

It was in 1785 that the King’s Guards in London began Trooping the Colour to honour the King's Birthday but whilst the celebration of

the Sovereign's Birthday in the United Kingdom remained primarily the military one of Trooping the Colour, the occasion has been a public holiday in other Realms. Whilst the holiday was changed to May to celebrate the birthday of Queen Victoria it was changed back to June during the reign of George V in 1911, and has been held in June ever since.

In the United Kingdom June has been selected because the barmier weather is kinder to those who come out to watch the Trooping the Colour.

In countries like Australia, the date of the public holiday is chosen to fit into the annual calendar of each State. Western Australia holds its Queen’s birthday holiday on September 28th this year and in Queensland on the 5th October whereas the other States and Territories hold the holiday on the second Monday in June.

Weather Gone Wild: Report from the Climate Council

Temperatures nudging 50 degrees, bushfires ravaging rainforests and people at increased risk of cardiac arrests because of heatwaves this is the new normal for Australia and it's being driven by climate change.

The Climate Council's latest report, Weather Gone Wild, has found climate change is increasing the frequency and/or severity of extreme weather and that Australians are suffering as a result.

"We are experiencing climate change right now across Australia, from flooding in Townsville to bushfires in Victoria and Tasmania," Climate Council CEO, Amanda McKenzie, said.

Key findings from the report include: • The past four years have been the four hottest on record for global surface temperature, continuing a long-term warming trend.

• All extreme weather events are being influenced by climate change, as they are occurring in an atmosphere that contains more

energy than 50 years ago.

• Extreme weather events are very costly, with insurance companies in Australia paying out more than $1.2 billion dollars in claims last year.

"Climate change is also leading to more intense rainfall, increasing the risk of flash flooding events, like the one we’re seeing in Townsville.

Greenhouse gas pollution is warming the climate system, increasing the amount of water vapour in the atmosphere. This leads to heavier rainfall," said the Climate Council's Head of Research, Dr Martin Rice.

"We have the solutions at our disposal but there's only a tiny window of opportunity left to tackle climate change," he said.

Letters Pentecostal PM I write in response to your editorial in Recollections and Rants “PM or Pentecostal? Scot Morrison can’t be both” – Frank Povah (Molong Express, Thurs 6th June 2019, pg 10) I would suggest that some of the views expressed by Mr Povah are rather hostile, ill conceived, and failing in truth and clarity. For the benefit of your readers, I offer some measured considerations. a) The inclusion of religious instruction, that being the teaching of what religions hold as their tenants of faith (as an example, the Christian proclamation of the death and resurrection of Jesus as the only means of salvation for all of humanity), is nothing to be feared.

Rather, these very important, and societal-effecting tenants, are where many laws and governances are grounded. Shouldn’t we welcome the opportunity to give young people a clear understanding of what is believed by the faiths that have shaped, and continue to shape, our society today? Religious instruction is not “new” in our schools. Most people reading this are well aware of SRE or Scripture, or learning about Aboriginal Dreamtime, or Egyptian Afterlife, or Greek Mythology etc etc. b) Mr Povah has expressed that Mr Morrison is our “new” Prime Minister. Just to clarify, Scott Morrison was sworn in as the 30th Prime Minister of Australia on the 24th August 2018, by the GovernorGeneral. That was about 9 months before the election. The recent federal election did not result in a “new” Prime Minister. c) Mr Povah appears concerned that we “may soon find ourselves having to defend our longcherished humanist approach”.

Perhaps Mr Povah has forgotten, or doesn’t know, that the Protestant Reformation, when Martin Luther, Phillipe Melanchthon and others challenged the Roman Catholic Church, they did so, holding firmly to a humanistic approach. These Christians taught people to think for themselves, to learn science, to learn maths, to learn philosophy, and to learn to interpret the Bible, and in doing so, make informed and rational decisions for themselves.

Western culture, Australian culture has been grounded in the fruit of these greats of history. The Pentecostal faith is Protestant. d) Mr Povah appears disturbed that both major party leaders visited a church during the 2007 election. I would like to remind Mr Povah what “church” means: the gathered ones, or assembled community. Is it a problem, or is it

a wonderful privilege, that political leaders spoke to a community of like-minded people, to outline to them their thoughts, policies, plans etc for this great nation, which would include those gathered?

Is this a problem? Is it an issue that a political leader addresses a sporting club (a group of gathered, like minded people) or a Rotary Club (a group of gathered, like minded people), or a workplace? e) Mr Povah states that Mr Morrison is “supposed to be governing for the majority”. No Mr Povah. The Federal Government is the institutional body that the citizens of Australia elect for the governing of Australia. The Prime Minister does not govern alone or in a vacuum. Furthermore, the published priorities of our Prime Minister and Government are: - Keeping our economy strong - Keeping Australians safe - Keeping Australians together … I can’t find anything in these priorities that is for “some blessed elite”. f) I may be incorrect in my reading of Mr Povah’s article, but it seems Mr Povah believes that [perhaps] people of Christian faith, or more narrowly, people of Pentecostal faith, delight in seeing people go to hell. If this be his view, it is so far removed from the doctrine of grace and the message of the good news of Jesus, that is it absurd to associate such an opinion with Christian belief. With regards to Mr Morrison, I cannot find anything, anywhere, that would support Mr Povah’s view. On the other hand, had Mr Povah looked, he might find that Mr Morrison’s church devotes a significant amount of energy and people to the public expression of their faith in Jesus by seeing others provided for, orphans and widows cared for, people snatched from poverty, snatched from the sex trade, and a plethora of other things. Oh, and they spend a pretty big swag of money on it too.

And lastly, Morrison went to the 2019 federal election proclaiming his faith. He did not hide it, but publicly embraced it. The people of Australia knew who he was. And, the people of Australia have elected a Coalition Government, knowing full well that Mr Scott Morrison would be the Prime Minister.

Mr Morrison is the Prime Minister of Australia, with a huge responsibility upon his shoulders.

How about we give him a go?

MINI REG REG’S BENCH Two foreign immigrants have just arrived in the United States by boat and one says to the other, "I hear that the people of this country actually eat dogs."

"Odd," her companion replies, "but if we shall live in America, we might as well do as the Americans do."

Nodding emphatically, one of the immigrants points to a hot dog vendor and they both walk toward the cart.

"Two dogs, please," she says. The vendor is only too pleased to oblige, wraps both hot dogs in foil and hands them over the counter.

Excited, the companions hurry to a bench and begin to unwrap their "dogs."

One of them opens the foil and begins to blush.

Staring at it for a moment, she turns to her friend and whispers cautiously, "What part did you get?"

At St. Peter's Catholic Church, they have weekly husband's marriage seminars. At the session last week, the priest asked Giuseppe, who said he was approaching his 50th wedding anniversary, to take a few minutes and share some insight into how he had managed to stay married to the same woman all these years.

Giuseppe replied to the assembled husbands, "Wella, I'va tried to treat her nicea, spenda da money on her, but besta of all is, I tooka her to Italy for the 25th anniversary!"

The priest responded, "Giuseppe, you are an amazing inspiration to all the husbands here! Please tell us what you are planning for your wife for your 50th anniversary?"

Giuseppe proudly replied, " I gonna go pick her up."

Holy smokes! Lucky we chose to ignore the opening hours on Google and swing a hard right up the driveway to check out Racine on the slopes of Mt Canobolas. Best call in yonks, Dad. While the restaurant itself wasn’t open at 10am, cane chairs and cushions crowded an outdoor fire pit and the coffee window beckoned with flaky pastries and fresh cake bakes.

Washed down with a brew from Bills Beans and spliced with a side of rolling vineyards this is the morning coffee stop city dwellers dream of.

Major meal times here are a more

fancy affair, with local ingredients expertly crafted into edible art.

Racine is the kind of place you take your parents for a ‘look, I’m a grown up’ lunch where you show off your adult restraint by controlling your decimation of the local wine selection.

Come for brekky and linger for one last glass of Barbera over lunch.

Well done to Justin and Tania Lampe who have come up with a number of new Molong themed rustic sculptures which they now show and sell in their Eden Giftware shop in Bank Street.

Named after Justin’s late father (John Lampe known to most as Jack) the sculpture (above) reasonates with country folk showing Praying Jack - on his knees holding a rain guage.

Praying Jack became a best seller last weekend - both from the shop, online - and word of mouth. Orders are now being taken ... from the many who passed through the doors and site ... and heard about Molong’s creative people. Justin had made 10 Praying Jacks to fill some of the orders taken by Tania and Rikki last week. He has a number more to go!

Whilst Kristy was discovering Racine Restaurant on the slopes of Mt. Canobolas ... I was discovering Racine’s Bakery in Orange. A cute little reminder of the yummy French patisseries found in arty MontMartre ... served with thick black coffee where taste buds are aroused ... and satisfied.

A Saturday morning without a mouth watering buttery, flaky pastry, crunchy to the core Croissant would be like ... well, it would not be good for one’s soul - nor for the taste buds reminding the brain that it’s time for the weekend fix.

Woops! Last week the Express printed a list of traders and business owners who would be open on the long weekend particularly Monday - the day of the MAG Molong Village Markets.

It’s always a risky business to write a list and not leave someone out.

But - Oh No! It was Ben, long-time resident of Molong - and owner/operator of the fascinating shed and yard on the highway overlooking Hill Street.

Thank you to Mark Oates who reminded the Express of our error with his ‘Bouquets’ entry (P.2) where he recognised his mate, as we should have, as being open most of the time. And, being a key attractor of visitors and tourists passing thru/visiting Molong.

WOW! What a crowd of visitors and tourists hit the Molong Markets on Monday and then headed to Bank Street where I hear Barnsey’s had to put into place ‘shifts’ for the endless customers looking for food, coffee etc. Freemasons Hotel, Sweetness, have also reported a busy day.

Donna at the Molong Woolshed has reported three days of busy activity in her stunning shop - Tania Lampe (Eden Giftware etc) and Lizzie (Booful) have also reported a busy day.

There’s no reason why last weekend’s visitors and tourists will not return to Molong.

Such was their positive day-out and stopover experience.

Wandering around the Blue Mountains last week and Sydney at the weekend - plus listening to the latest economic news ... and doing my own research on retail trends - there is nothing that I can see that will hold Molong back from forging ahead and creating a ‘place’ where people want to come, shop, visit and stopover.

Molong is on the road to change ... and better times ahead. But, the question on my mind is how can this happen, how does this happen when as locals we are still carrying traditional shopping ‘trends’ along with us.

One can see the same happening in other areas - rural and city - across the globe.

‘Change’ is what customers today want ... and expect. It is a fast moving world and Molong has to find its place.

Customers want to see ‘change’ constantly ... fast ... and delivered with ‘precision’.

Today’s communities, shoppers, customers, clients want ‘excitement’, adventure, and the opportunity to discover the new.

Unfortunately, what happens in many shopping areas, centres, country towns ... and city suburbs is the quick ‘exodus’ of local residents when they see no change. No change means failure - either at a slow pace - more often than not at a fast pace. Molong is no different.

What happens is that what I call ‘cabin fever’ sets in. We become sick of seeing the same day in day out - we become immune to seeing what our town has to offer - what our shops have to offer - what our traders and business owners have to offer. We head to places where change and excitement is on offer - we shop online, we shop in larger centres, we shop on holidays. Ultimately, we forget our town, assuming it will look after itself. Traders in Molong are then left with stock, rent to pay, and their own demise is demonstrated through lack of clean windows, tired looking stock and old stock - displays remaining the same, etc. etc. It’s not good!

Larger shopping mall developers are well aware of ‘cabin fever’ and insist on small business owners (and the larger tenants) creating change to their premises, window displays, stock, stock displays, signage ... and even location. The very reason why as customers we tend to not grow tired of large mall shopping because they offer a changing environment - a new environment. The same can be achieved in Molong’s shopping area.

It’s about deciding and doing!

One ‘change agent’ in Molong is Donna Carlson’s WoolShed in Bank Street.

Innovative, creative, constantly changing ... this shop demonstrates how a rural based business can bring in customers from other places - even larger cities nearby and further afield. Donna manages to stop traffic each and every day from the highway. Why? Her biz is exciting - Donna sources high quality latest designs and trends for her Molong shop ... and most of all, she made a decision to invest $$’s.

Not many have the vision to do this. And, in fairness, it is difficult to make the biz decision to invest huge $$’s into Molong. But it can, and does work.

Zonta Antique, Jewellery & Vintage Fair supports women and families

One Library One Book - Central West Libraries launch new initiative

Felicity McLean’s book The Van Apfel Girls Are Gone has been chosen for an innovative program in the Central West that takes the traditional book club concept to the next level. Named One Library One Book, the program aims to have everyone in the region read and discuss the same book.

Central West Libraries will distribute 200 copies of The Van Apfel Girls Are Gone across the Central West Libraries footprint – Blayney, Cabonne, Cowra, Forbes and Orange. These copies have been added to the catalogues of the Library’s branches with the rest distributed throughout regional towns for the community to take, read and pass on.

Author Felicity McLean will be a guest speaker at the Orange Readers and Writers Festival on Saturday 3rd August at the Hotel Canobolas to talk about her book. Felicity will also be attending local libraries to meet with readers in the first week of August to discuss the book with audiences.

Central West Libraries Manager Jan Richards encouraged residents to read The Van Apfel Girls are Gone and pass it on to a friend or colleague.

“The One Library, One Book program takes the idea of a book club and expands it to cover an entire region,” Jan said.

“The book is blackly comic, sharply observed and wonderfully endearing. We think it will resonate with the community and reflect connections our library service has with local organisations.”

“We are thrilled to be bring this book to readers of the Central West. It is also available via ebook and audiobook through Central West Libraries,” she said.

Part mystery, part coming of age story, The Van Apfel Girls are Gone is set in a distant suburb on the encroaching bushland, over the

long hot summer of 1992. It’s the summer of the school’s Showstopper concert. The summer Tikka never forgot. The summer the Van Apfel sisters disappeared.

A tale of two kingdoms

Pastor Deon and Eliza Stapelberg were born and raised in South Africa. They moved to Australia in 2012 and have lead the Molong Community Church since February 2017.

Here Deon relates an instructive tale...

For the purpose of this story, South Africa and Australia are two Kingdoms I became a citizen of the kingdom of South Africa by birth. My great grandparents decided to move there. I was not consulted in the process.

I heard tales of a kingdom to the east called Australia, where I will be able to live free. Where my children will be able to walk the streets without me having to be concerned about their safety, where my wife will not be concerned that I may be hijacked on the way to the work. But I could not move to Australia, because I was not good enough. My education was not good enough, and Australia did not recognise my qualification.

One day out of the blue, a stranger called and asked me if I want to come to Australia to work for their company.

Here is a list of what different friends told me about Australia when they heard that I am thinking of changing Kingdoms and moving.

One told me that Australian people are legalistic; they have laws for everything. One state has something like 278 criminal laws. They have politicians that spend their days making new laws. Every part of their lives is legislated.

You cannot even allow your child to do a handstand if you are not qualified to do it. You cannot move your furniture from one house to another without using a moving company.

Another friend told me Australian people are arrogant, and he pointed out to me different Australian athletes and sports commentators.

A farmer told me that Australian people are lazy; they don’t want to work. If you get a job in Australia, they will expect you to do all the work, and they will just be collecting the money.

I was told that Australia looks down on foreign people, especially if they are from a third world country like South Africa. They don’t like foreigners; they think that foreigners are taking

their jobs and taking advantage of there good will.

I was told that Australian people are hypocrites; they like to criticise other countries but do the same. They will take you on about apartheid, but get upset if you ask them about them and the Aboriginal people I worked with a person that had been to Australia, and she gave me a bad report about the people. She moved here with her family, and after one week she moved back to South Africa because she did not feel safe.

I was told that the only people that want to live in Australia are the ones that are born in Australia.

If you don’t hold their values, you are not welcome in their country.

If you don’t speak their language, you will not be welcome in their country. You will have to do a test to prove that you can speak the language.

After almost seven years in Australia, I had to make this pledge to become a Citizen of this beautiful country of Australia.

From this time forward, under God, I pledge my loyalty to Australia and its people, whose democratic beliefs I share, whose rights and liberties I respect, and whose laws I will uphold and obey.

There is no prerequisite to becoming a Citizen of the Kingdom of heaven; anyone can become a citizen no matter how good or bad they are.

We don’t become a citizen of a country when we keep their laws, in the same way, keeping God’s laws does not make you a citizen of the Kingdom of heaven.

The interesting thing for me is that no one will dream of allowing someone to become a citizen of Australia if they want to do it on their terms.

They will only allow it on Australian terms.

The same people think that they can become citizens of the Kingdom of God on their terms.

They want to tell the Creator of heaven and earth what He can do in His Kingdom. But if we want to become citizens of the Kingdom of God, it has to be on God’s terms

Here is what John Rozentals wrote about last Monday's MAG Molong Village Market ... which is sure to bring more tourists/visitors to town.

"Okay, I'm just slightly biased.

For the past five years I've called the small NSW Central West town of Molong home.

Transplanting myself there from Sydney was the best move I'd ever made.

I've lived in quite a few places around Australia, and nowhere have I been made as immediately welcome as in Molong.

I was quite chuffed when the sun arose on a gorgeous morning to welcome the town markets in their relatively recent home - the Dr Ross Memorial Recreation Ground, known locally just as the Rec. The Rec has quite a history, including having been a campsite for the Cooee March that encouraged quite a few enlistments as it wound its way to Sydney in 1915.

With its newish white-picket fence, lush grass covering and shiny green poplar trees it did look a pretty picture.

I'd venture that the markets so efficiently organised there that day by Marj Bollinger and her team from the Molong Advancement Group - affectionately dubbed MAG - were easily the best in the land, but then I would make that claim.

The vast majority of the record 130 stallholders and the many hundreds of visitors certainly thought so. I don't think that I've seen Marj prouder and happier than when she landed country singer-guitarist-composer Allan Caswell as a special guest performer for those Molong Markets.

There was plenty to eat and drink, starting at 8am with barbecued bacon-and-egg rolls and even including a taste of

some "breakfast port" for the desperate. But what's really for sale was Molong itself - and so far as this scribe is concerned it really doesn't need any promotion.

The only thing that Marj got wrong was the weather forecast. It didn't look like three inches of rain when the markets closed that afternoon.

"There are people everywhere," she said at about 2pm, "People everywhere."

And she was quite right about that ... and her statement that there was something there for just about everyone.

For kids, there were plenty of rides, including of the plenty-of-horsepower type on a motorcycle-powered trike, face-painting and a fancy jumping castle.

For adults, there were stalls aplenty selling crafty things, gardening materials and homewares.

Sometimes the things were a combination of all of the above."

Do I need to use a solicitor to make a Will? Will kits, what’s wrong with them, they are cheaper than solicitors, aren’t they? Will kits or homemade DIY Wills can seem an easier and cheaper way of getting your affairs in order. Sometimes they do work. However, the laws surrounding Wills and Estates can be complex and there are Deirdre May many instances (including seemingly straightforward circumstances) when homemade DIY wills and will kits have gone wrong. Estate planning is more than just making a Will. It involves gaining a comprehensive picture of you, your family situation, your circumstances and responsibilities, your assets and liabilities, your health and testamentary capacity. Estate planning takes many factors into account to provide you with the right advice as to how your wishes can be put into effect.

It is what the Will kits fail to ask or do which makes them inadequate: Will kits do not sit with you and ask you about your family tree to flag any possible family provisions claim, are not able to assess your testamentary capacity or identify undue influence or duress over you to make a Will, do not seek instructions from you for contingency plans in the event of death or inability of your executors to act, don’t ask about beneficiaries and their circumstances and don’t provide you with comprehensive advice in relation to the role of the executor and trustee or your Will. Will kit wills opens the possibility for challenges to an estate as DIY Wills are more likely to be contested. It will cost your estate far more to rectify the inadequacies and failings of a DIY or will kit document through the Supreme Court. Court involvement is costly financially and emotionally. While there will be an initial cost associated with having a solicitor prepare you Will, it can be a lot cheaper in the long run!

However, there are real risks in delaying a property settlement after you have separated. In Family Law, Alison Neville the property pool is not assessed at the date of separation but the present day values of your assets and liabilities. If you wait to commence a property settlement there is a possibility of an increase in your wealth as time goes by through sound investments or even a lottery win. This is particularly relevant if you start a new business shortly before or after the relationship ends and it suddenly becomes hugely successful. If your former spouse can prove that they assisted or encouraged you in any way, they may be entitled to a share of your new found wealth.

The other risk to be wary of in delaying a property settlement is the other party diminishing the asset pool. This can be through gambling or merely missing an opportunity to sell the former matrimonial home for the best price. While an argument can be made that your former spouse should be held accountable for these actions, the Court may not always share that view. While strategies can be put in place to minimise the effect of a delayed property settlement, it adds time and costs to your matter.

Time limits do apply so we recommend seeking advice early.

The tumult and the shouting has died, now we must face the uncomfortable truth

NOW THAT the election is over, we are being forced to face the fact that the winning side, bereft of many actual policies, snatched victory by riding a bandwagon of lies, half truths and the over-inflated ego of a self-proclaimed billionaire.

Some political commentators have even gone so far as to suggest that many of the government's policy promises – and I use the word with caution – were laid as traps for an expected future Labor government.

The argument goes that on questions of border security and tax cuts, the Opposition would have to agree to many of the LNP's promises for fear that it would be seen as “soft on security” and unsupportive of the “battler”, then, when elected, Labor would be faced with budget blowouts that the LNP could use as a cudgel with which to beat them.

Whether or not that is true has no bearing on this article, but what can’t be ignored is the simple fact that after years of growth, rising corporate profits and unprecedented expansion of the mining industry, Australia is no better off than it was prior to the boom years that began in about 2003.

During the recent election campaign, the LNP spent countless hours in trying to convince the voting public of their skill as economic managers, without any real evidence that they are.

On the other side, Labor pointed to the fact that they steered the nation through the Global Financial Crisis, escaping with relatively few battle scars and little of the damage sustained by other countries.

Graphs by the score are trotted out to bolster the arguments of both sides but they all miss the point.

They tell those who can read them how the economy fared over a given period of time but what they don’t tell us is how a nation’s people are feeling in themselves or, to borrow a marker from our cousins across the Tasman Sea, the wellbeing of the nation.

If we were brave enough to take a really close look at Australia and honest enough to describe what we were seeing, it’s a fair bet that we would describe ourselves as a nation in peril.

Governments ponder falling house prices and their effect on the economy, yet there is little discussion over a survey’s findings that in the whole of Australia, only two rental properties came within financial reach of someone on the Newstart allowance. Just two.

There is little concern expressed over reports showing that rents in Hobart are rapidly becoming the least affordable in the nation and that all over Australia the numbers of homeless people are growing, with mature-age women an increasing percentage of those numbers.

And perhaps that’s the trouble.

This new generation of politicians

sees the world in bottom lines, in spreadsheets and statistics, not as a living, breathing planet inhabited by people of all social backgrounds and capabilities, each as deserving of consideration as the next.

Using money and minerals as the yardstick, Australia is a rich country. From the first goldrushes to the diverse mineral extraction of the present, billions upon uncounted billions of dollars have been wrested from our ancient land to enrich the world’s industrialists.

Australian coal and iron have fuelled the phenomenal rise of China as an industrial power, just as our gold, wool and wheat enriched the masters of the British Empire.

Yet as a nation, are we any better off? Our public health system is under pressure, government schools are starved of funding, public housing stocks are the lowest in many, many years as homelessness rises and new apartments sit vacant, and wages are stagnant at a time when corporate profits are at an alltime high.

Public assets are flogged off to corporations who then increase the charges to their new customers while the sale proceeds are spent on pork-barrel projects that return a fraction of the original value to the community.

Meanwhile the government offers tax cuts then tells voters there is no money to “waste” on social projects.

And all the time, the nation’s resources are dug from the ground and shipped overseas at no great benefit to the people as a whole.

What happened to the billions in royalties paid into the “future fund”? It was squandered on tax cuts and handouts, the benefits of which have since evaporated.

It is said that one in every four bulk ore carriers plying the world’s oceans is carrying the Pilbara’s iron ore. Why then is Western Australia begging for a greater slice of the GST take?

Why is the Queensland Labor Government offering royalty freezes periods for miners if they contribute to community funds, while a former Federal Minister in the Liberal government, speaking for the mining companies, says he welcomes the offer but the LNP has a more attractive plan.

What could be more attractive than billions of tax-free dollars in return for a few million spent on footy fields and community halls?

In 2018, Australia’s take from gas exports was expected to be $600 million, the same as is raised by the beer tax, while for the same period Qatar would reap $26.6 billion.

Next year, we will eclipse Qatar as the world’s largest exporter of gas.

According to one source, Australia’s effective tax rate on its gas resources is 21 per cent, while that on the reserves held by the North Sea nations (which include some Scandinavian countries, Germany and the Netherlands) is 35 per cent and more.

What is more, our petroleum resource rent tax allows companies to offset the costs of exploration and claim tax credits for future decommissioning of plants.

While eastern States energy prices increase at about six times the rate of wage earner income, record amounts of LNG are shipped overseas to countries whose people pay less for the gas than we do.

Interestingly, very little of that gas is reserved for the domestic market – it was all given away to the miners; those same miners who tell us that if they were allowed to extract gas by fracking priceless agricultural land, we would get our domestic supply much cheaper.

To add insult to injury, tax and royalty arrangements “negotiated” by governments have ensured that it will be years before the country sees any benefit.

Both miners and politicians seem to forget that it is the nation’s gas and miners should pay for the privilege of extracting and marketing it.

In 2014–15, Australian exports of gold earned about $16 billion; royalties paid during that period were about $317 million.

It’s hard not to conclude that governments have given the cake to the miners – and other interests – while the nation is left only the crumbs on the floor.

All this is in stark contrast to the situation in Norway, a Scandinavian country of some 5.3 million inhabitants.

In 1990, Norway established the Government Pension Fund Global, popularly known as the Oil Fund and established to invest the surplus revenue from the petroleum sector, both State and privately owned, that exploits the Norwegian sector of the

North Sea oilfields.

By 2018 it had about $AU1.5 trillion in assets – $AU280,000 per citizen – assets of which 1.3 per cent are held in global stocks and shares, making it the world’s largest sovereign wealth fund and the largest single investor in European commerce.

The fund only invests in companies that it considers to be environmentally and ethically responsible; tobacco companies and those found to be environmentally irresponsible are not considered, for example.

It regularly votes in meetings of stockholders, hoping to influence decisions around environmental and ethical issues.

The fund is kept aside against future eventualities and should not be confused with the Pension Fund.

Set up in 1967, its investments are in Norwegian companies only and, as its name implies, is a State controlled superannuation fund.

I suppose it’s never too late to introduce a good idea, but I think the Australian horse has well and truly bolted.

The miners – and other corporations – now have such a stranglehold on much of our Parliament that any legislation offering even the remotest perception of a threat to the privileged position that large corporations hold in this country would never see the light of day.

Since the 1970s, North Sea oil reserves have financed the Norwegian state and in 1990 that country established a sovereign wealth fund, popularly known as the Oil Fund.

As distinct from Norway’s Pension fund, which is also a government-owned entity, assets of this fund have been reserved against future eventualities.

The French act on a barking dog problem The mayor of a town in northern France has issued a ban on excessive dog barking in a bid to curb canine noise pollution.

From Monday, dog owners in Feuquières face a €68 ($A108) fine for "prolonged or repeated barking".

Mayor Jean-Pierre Estienne says the ban is in response to dogs "barking day and night" and creating "an unbearable situation" in the village.

The decree has been criticised by animal rights activists.

"The aim is not to ban dogs and we won't be fining people for the slightest hint of a yap,"Estienne told French newspaper Le Parisien (in French).

"The town has nothing against dogs but when you decide to have them, you educate them."

Passed by the local council earlier this month, the decree forbids dogs from being left in enclosed areas without owners being nearby to stop "prolonged or repeated barking".

Yappy dogs must also be kept inside if their behaviour "disturbs the rest or relaxation" of Feuquières' 1,400 residents.

Offenders (or more specifically, their owners)

will receive a fine for each complaint made against them.

The decree follows a petition by villagers against one particular resident.

"She has several dogs, some large," said Mr Estienne. "We have made several attempts to establish a dialogue with her, to no avail."

"If I took this decision, it is because we found no other way out. I couldn't sit idly by," he said.

The move has been condemned as "completely barking" by Stéphane Lamart, president of the Association for the Defence of Animal Rights.

"You may as well stop church bells ringing on Sunday morning," Mr Lamart told Le Monde newspaper (in French).

"If dogs have mouths, it's so they can bark."

Mr Lamart said he intended to launch an appeal with the local court. "I've never seen a dog bark from morning to evening," he said.

This is not the first time French authorities have tried to dampen doggy decibels.

In 2012, Sainte-Foy-la-Grande in southwest France passed a ban on any excessive dog barking that disturbed "public order".

Agents yarded Lamb 7900 & Sheep 2200 It was a good quality yarding, with a good selection of trade lambs, along with a few

pens of heavy weights. There was also fair numbers to suit the feeders and restockers.

A full field of buyers were in attendance and operating.

Light weight lambs to the processors were close to firm, Trade lambs were firm for the medium weights and $10/head cheaper for the heavier weights. Heavy weight lambs were $15 to $18 cheaper, Merino lambs were $7 cheaper. Lambs to the restockers and feeders were dearer, Hoggets sold to $200/head.

Crossbred ewes were the majority in a useful yarding of mutton where most grades were $6 to $8/head dearer. 2 score ewes sold from $70 to $98, while the better 3 and 4 scores sold from $106 to $240 for crossbreds and $200/head for Merinos. Merino wethers sold to $190/head. Carcase prices for the better sheep varied from 580c to 645c/kg cwt.

CTLX cattle market report 11/6/19

Agent’s yarded2150 It was a plainer quality yarding with not the numbers of ideal feeders compared to the previous sale and the cow quality was back.

There were a few pens of well finished trade cattle along with odd pens of well finished grown steers and heifers. Most of the processors were operating though a couple of feeders were absent.

Young cattle to the trade were firm to dearer with the prime steer yearlings selling from 290c to 312c/kg. The prime heifer yearlings sold from 252c to 305c/kg. Feeder cattle were 9c to 15c cheaper with the feeder steers selling from 250c to 327c while the feeder heifers sold from 230c to 283c/kg.

Young restocker cattle were close to firm.

Grown steers were 5c dearer with the prime medium and heavy weights selling from 274c to 313c/kg. Grown heifers were 11c dearer with the better types selling from 240c to 288c/kg. Cows were 5c cheaper

Winter months are here and everyone is wrapped up inside. The Club has decided to modify trading hours and from Monday 3 June will open 4 days a week on: Wednesdays - from 1 pm (come down and enjoy the popular Midweek bowls) Fridays - from 4.30 pm to close.

Saturdays & Sundays - from 11 am to close.

Note that booked functions meetings, activities etc are not affected (e.g. Probus

BOWLS Roger Wood and the Phantom Walker won the event with 45 points. May be the also have a wood raffle going that will be handicapper will take a look at that seeing drawn on the 15th at the bonfire night (this Saturday 15 June @ 6 p.m.). Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5 plus we have a TV Raffle which will be drawn on the 29 June - tickets are $2 each.
