Lights & Solar projects on the way
Cabonne Council will soon receive final advice on proposals to replace over 790 streetlights across the shire with new LED technology. Last October, Council received a proposal from Essential Energy to upgrade 794 streetlights that it manages for Council across the Shire. This proposal, covering almost all the streetlights in the Shire, is a result of joint council negotiations coordinated by the Central NSW Joint Organisation of Councils and other similar regional organisations under the Southern Lights NSW project. The benefits of upgrading the lights to LEDs include energy and maintenance savings of about 60%. The new LED streetlights would be much more reliable and will deliver higher quality white light with better distribution. Orange, Bathurst, Albury and Dubbo are understood to have accepted similar LED upgrade proposals. Upgrade work is substantially complete in Bathurst, underway in Orange, underway in Albury and shortly to commence in Dubbo. The capital cost of the project is estimated by Essential Energy to be $423,971 (net of available NSW government funding support) with a suggested simple payback of just over five years from a combination of energy and maintenance savings. Essential Energy has identified that road usage may have changed over time and that there may be some mismatches in lighting levels that Council may wish to address as part of the upgrade.
Happiness abounds @ BIG School
Meet Arlo and Lottie - both new starters at the Molong Central School - who could hardly wait to return to their learning activity when the Express visited their classroom earlier this week. Kindergarten 2020 students at the MCS are happy and prepared when it comes to learning, being together in a class of 35 children and playing together in the fabulous playground area.

Solar Farm
In the meantime amp Energy has briefed the Council on progress with a 30 megawatt solar farm it is constructing on 200 acres at Belgravia. As well as employing local staff where possible construction, expected to commence in March, is expected to see visiting specialist staff in town over the construction period.
