The site represents a unique visual history of Fairbridge and represents the lives of the children/youth and cottage parents who once lived there.

"This site was once a small paddock overlooking the Molong Creek where we Fairbridge kids would wander to in our 'free time' after we had finished our farm and cottage chores" said David Hill. "We would swim in the creek, catch yabbies and boil the billy."

Molong and district communities are warmly invited

to attend the official opening of the park this Sunday at 11 a.m. (gates open at 9.30 a.m. - parking on Amaroo Road with courtesy bus to and from the site) and take a wander through the Fairbridge Farm Molong story. "It (the Fairbridge Children's Park) is truly unique, professionally designed and forms an important part the Fairbridge history and Molong's history" said Rozzi Smith of the Express.

Planned power outage for Molong Recreation ground upgrades A large area of Molong may experience a planned power outage on Sunday 22 March 2020 as electricity upgrades are undertaken at Molong Recreation Ground.

The outage is planned to occur between 9am and 3pm while the works are carried out to enable new lighting and other improvements to be installed at the ground at a later date.

The work was originally scheduled for January but was postponed until the weather was cooler and there would not be as much demand for air-conditioning. In conjunction with Essential Energy, a Sunday was selected as the day

to undertake the upgrade to minimise the disruption to business.

5th September 1940 - 6th March 2020 had not yet published a book about Yuranigh, was an avid letter writer and wrote a busy blog Little Wallaby. In his final few years he resided in country NSW, first Bourke then Molong, where he became editor of The Western Herald - Bourke, before working as a columnist and copy editor to the Molong Express.

Frank was of a generation and spirit that is fast disappearing in this country, he was much loved by many and will be sorely missed by all he came in contact with.

He is survived by his partner Kaite Matilda and his sons Gregory and Ned.

Musician, editor, writer, pigeon fancier and a teller of yarns were just some of the feathers in Frank's trademark Akubra hat during his colourful life.

Born in West Australia, a love of blues, jazz and folk music took him from the coffee houses of Fremantle to anywhere there was a gig to be played among a like minded crowd in Central West NSW, Kings Cross, Hobart and Wellinglon NZ. Later in life he could be found at numerous folk festivals and open mic's around Australia and for a time he lived and played in Kentucky, USA, the home of bluegrass music.

For thirty years Frank was a copy editor, consultant and columnist with Australian Geographic; he ran an editorial service the Busy Boordy; he was a musician, raconteur and versifier published in the National Library's collection.

He also produced national pigeon magazines in Australia and USA. He was a published author. Frank wrote and published a book on Koori folklore, wrote but

Around town and district Catholic Schools Week and a visit from Aunty Rita

(Above) Rhonda Watt of Cumnock has been recognised by the NSW State Government for her outstanding community volunteering work supporting the Cumnock and district communities.

Residents of Cumnock and district have benefited from the 34 years of community volunteering given willingly by local farmer and business woman, Rhonda Watt.

Prepared to put her hands and mind to work for ‘all things community’ survival and building to benefit residents from babies to the more senior - Rhonda is prepared to roll up her sleeves and dig, shovel, mow, clean, cater, cook, sing ... and deliver funding presentations to various levels of government, organisations ... whoever, wherever, whatever.

Proudly supported by her husband Andrew, and daughters Jo and Lucy ... Rhonda has the ability to see what needs to be done ... and ways to achieve the results ‘on the ground’. With her sparkling wide smile ... the former Trangie resident is noticeably ‘fearless’ when it comes to protecting the Cumnock community and residents.

- because she represents not only all things community ... family is her top priority. Like most rural women - Rhonda balances a busy lifestyle of family, farm, business ... and community. She also understands the need to help the village of Cumnock to survive ... which once had a busy main street of shops, business, etc. Farm survival and family survival heads Rhonda’s work since the drought commenced. She has helped to bring drought assistance packages, fodder for animals, food for families, and shopping vouchers to help keep the local store operating.

"Rhonda's passion, energy and community spirit is second to none. I'd like to thank Rhonda for her inspiring contribution, which is appreciated by the entire community," said Phil Donato MP in presenting Rhonda with the local award.

Next? Rhonda will travel to Sydney for the 2020 NSW Woman of the Year award.

MOLONG CENTRAL SCHOOL STUDENTS PROVIDING YOUTH PERSPECTIVE ON SPORTING PRECINCT MASTERPLANS.

A group of 13 students from Molong Central School recently took part in a consultation and input session on the soon to be developed masterplans for the sporting precincts around Molong. The group consisted of representatives of the Student Representative Council (SRC), as well as students studying elective sport subjects from Year 7 to 12.

The students initially brainstormed ideas for The Rec Precinct, followed by the Hunter Caldwell facilities, before breaking into expert groups to further tease out their ideas and form some specific, achievable concepts to be put to the consultants developing the plans. The sessions, which were coordinated by Councillor Peter Batten and MCS teacher Kevin Costa, brought forward a number of perspectives and concepts which had not previously been considered.

All students responded that the program was very worthwhile and that the opportunity to be a part of the process was very much appreciated, as youth often feel that they are not included in many decisions made within the town.

Both Councillor Batten and Mr Costa were incredibly impressed with the focussed, professional and considered manner in which these young people engaged with this process n developed many very valuable ideas which will certainly make a positive difference to our community.

Reconciliation talk presented

by Auntie Rita, Molong Wiradjuri Elder, to St. Joseph’s Primary School, Catholic Schools Week celebration. Read on ...

“What is Reconciliation?

In the Oxford Dictionary the meaning of Reconciliation is to end a disagreement or conflict with somebody and the start of a good relationship again.

When we think of reconciliation in Australia, we as a population think of the feud between that of white Australia and that of Indigenous Australians.

As an Aboriginal Elder of the Ngamba People from the area of Bourke, I constantly hear the Word “Reconciliation”. To me the word Reconciliation (Which I do not like using) has many different meanings.

As you and most people of Australia are aware the word “Reconciliation” is again constantly used throughout Australia but what does it actually mean for Australia and all of its residents.

1) To reconcile means to put an end to a feud 2) It restarts a friendship/partnership maybe it reunites to warring parties, all in all reconciliation to me means to start a new era of a relationship.

Unfortunately, in Australia there has be an ongoing feud between that old white Australia and to that of Aboriginal people of Australia.

Over the past 2 centuries the feud between white Australians and indigenous Australians has gone on for long enough and it time to end it with reconciliation and a greater understanding of the issues surrounding indigenous people of long ago, This can only be obtained with help from all parties concerned from the hierarchy of the Australian government to the little aboriginal child playing with a tin can in the park, this can and will be achieved.

As an Aboriginal Elder I for one cannot just say let’s reconcile and move on as many people do…. although they have a very limited knowledge of the past atrocities that indigenous people of Australia have been through. There has been way too much hurt destruction and a forever growing problem of Discrimination between White and Black Australia.

I don’t want to rave on about these issues but unfortunately reconciliation is a tad harder than we all think it is. Even though Prime Minister Kevin Rudd at the time of his prime ministership gave a national apology…… it did not bring

reconciliation between white and Black Australia any closer.

The Catholic Church has been involved with indigenous Australia for over 200 years. At that time the Catholic Church gave indigenous people a sense of belonging and also a sense of identity (although in many indigenous peoples views it was a false identity as unfortunately an aboriginal person’s identity…. is their land ….lore and culture and when they were taken away from this their original identity was lost) at this particular time it came under the banner of the “White Australia Policy” to which today we all know of the problems that arose from it.(Stolen Generation) Myself and also my family were both the lucky ones and also the unlucky ones as my Grandfather (Fa Fa) was a senior member of the NSW Police Force back than but unfortunately he was forced to make many sacrifices to enable him to rare and educate his family.

In saying this - My Grandfather had to divorce his entire family to enable for his children to be educated under the White Australia Policy. This was seen to be an act of betrayal from his own clan. Although again at the time he knew that this would be the best option for his family to survive the hard times ahead.

One of the main sacrifices he was to make under the White Australian Policy was that he was not allowed to teach his lore, culture and language. This was at the time compulsory for all Indigenous Australians. My family suffered many losses through this time and to this day we are still finding lost family from generations ago.

Under the “White Australia Policy” The Australian Government at that time set up what we now know today as ‘Missions’ some missions were run by the Catholic Church and other denominations were in charge of other missions.

The role of the church at the time was to educate Aboriginal Children to live and understand the western way of life, and for all Australians to live under one flag - at the time it was hoped that Australia would not become an issue of white vs black.

However, as we all know today, the White Australia Policy of early Australia was a major flaw in Australian history hence leading to the National Apology under the Kevin Rudd Prime Minster-ship and for now all Australians to come together and work out a nation reconciliation policy for all of us to live in harmony.

This is going to be a major stepping stone for all Australians and we all need to move forward.

In many people’s views that role the church played gave young people an education.”

An ‘even better’ Rec. Ground and more ...

Whilst local and district residents are concerned about the growing number of empty shopfronts in Molong ... there is much happening in the town to keep spirits up - the future is still looking bright and we have a lot to look forward to.

Retail, across Australia and internationally - is on a ‘downer’ as times change and a necessary ‘tweeking’ occurs to the sector across the globe.

The good news is that Molong has important infrastructure improvements happening. One being at the Molong Rec. with new and much improved lighting moving into place. This will allow more ‘night sporting events’ to occur and in turn, bring more people to town.

The Fairbridge Children’s Park on the outskirts of Molong is a huge plus. This remarkable visual story

of the lives of Fairbridge kids/youth is not only a wonderful and fitting memorial to their lives spent at ‘the farm’ but is also an important part of Molong’s history. This new park is sure to bring visitors and tourists to town. We can be thankful!

More projects are on the ‘drawing board’ as Molong readjusts to the effects of the long drought, the changing economic times ... and we believe, that in time ... Bank Street will undergo change ... and new business will fill empty spaces.

Moves are already ‘afoot’.

In the meantime ... let’s keep positive minds - eyes forward ... and give thanks to the wonderful facilities Molong already has.

In these times ... its about ‘working with what we’ve got’ (so to speak).

Molong residents are good at that.

“Kundalini Yoga has enhanced my life coping skills since I started practising. It has taught me to listen to my own body, to have an awareness of my own feelings and emotions. It has helped me to stay grounded and to remain much more calm in situations in my life where I may previously have acted irrationally and emotionally. It has also helped my body to stay more flexible, especially as I grow older.

In order to learn more about this Yoga, I did my teacher training in 2014, and have been teaching in Orange and /or Molong since then. I have found that this yoga has facilitated in me a more relaxed and calm person who is less reactive.

This is very useful in the more and more chaotic world in which we find ourselves.

The new 6 week series for beginners will be an introduction for those who are tempted to try!

The classes are independent of each other, so it’s not essential to attend every one. It is however, highly recommended.”

We’ve had some recent rain, but we’re still a long way off being out of the Drought.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to help finish the master plan to upgrade the school’s outdoor learning area which has been delayed due to lack of water and a drought affected school yard. The aim is to build a sustainable, eco-

friendly, drought tolerant outdoor learning environment for the local school children to enjoy.

Our Special Guest at the event will be Gold Logie winner and Today Show host Karl Stefanovic Australia’s popular Breakfast Show Presenter. Karl jumped at the opportunity to attend our fundraiser and is looking forward to mingling with the locals & seeing what Cumnock has to offer!

CTLX Sheep & Lamb 4/3/20

It was a good quality yarding with a good selection of trade lambs along with only a few pens of heavy weights. There were also fair numbers of lambs to suit the restockers.

A full field of buyers were in attendance and operating.

Light weight lambs to the processors were $10 dearer with the 12kg to 18kg 2 scores selling from $130 to $175/head. Trade lambs were $2 to $5 dearer with the new season lambs selling from $181 to $248, while the trade weight old lambs sold from $175 to $255 to average between 1,015c and 1,050c/kg cwt. The few heavy weight lambs were firm selling to $272/head. A single pen of trade weight Merino lambs were around firm selling for $185/head. Restocker lambs were firm to $3 dearer, selling from $100 to $199/head.

Hoggets sold to $240/head.

It was a mixed quality yarding of mutton where the light and medium weight sheep were firm to $7/head dearer while the heavy weight sheep were firm to cheaper with quality a factor. Merino ewes sold from $70 to $223 while crossbred ewes sold from $95 to $250/head.

Merino wethers sold from $98 to $190, while White Dorper wethers sold to $242/ head. The restocker paid $131/head for Merino wethers to fatten.

It was a good quality yarding with a good selection of yearlings to suit the feeders and processors along with good numbers of cows though the cow quality was back. There was only a few well finished grown steers and heifers yarded. A full field of buyers competed solidly with

MOLONG TOWN CENTRE ISSUES PAPER

Public Comments and Submissions Invited Cabonne Council is seeking public comments and feedback on a Molong Town Centre Issues Paper that has been prepared as a precursor to the preparation of the Molong Town Centre Plan.

The aim of this paper is to explore issues that need to be considered with community members, so as to better inform the development of the Molong Town Centre Plan.

Council has committed funding to develop the plan, which aims to engage with stakeholders to develop new ideas and urban renewal projects to make the Molong Town Centre more attractive.

Following the public exhibition of the Molong Town Centre Issues Paper and community feedback has been received, Council intends to engage an urban designer to work with interested members of the community to design improvements as part of the development of the Molong Town Centre Plan.

The Molong Town Issues Paper can be viewed on the latest news section of Cabonne Council’s website and on the Council’s Facebook page.

Public comments and submissions are invited until 5pm on Tuesday 24 March 2020.

Young cattle to the trade were 6c cheaper with prime heifer yearlings selling to 364c/ kg. The feeder steers and heifers were up to 30c/kg dearer. Feeder steers sold from 360c to 445c, while the feeder heifers sold from 375c to 424c/kg. The few young cattle to the restockers were around firm with the young steers selling from 375c to 476c, while the young restocker heifers sold to 409c/kg.

Grown steers and heifers were 6c to 10c cheaper with the grown steers selling to 330c and the grown heifers also 330c/kg.

Properly finished cows were around firm while the plainer conditioned cows were 9c/kg dearer.

2 score cows sold from 240c to 286c while the better 3 and 4 scores sold from 273c to 310c with the prime heavy w e i g h t s averaging 300c/kg.

There was reasonably s t r o n g i n t e r e s t from local restockers w i t h cows to the restockers selling from 240c to 298c/ kg. Bulls sold to 318c/kg.

Canowindra Storm into Oilsplus Cricket Grand Final

Canowindra defeated Millthorpe in a thriller at Millthorpe on Saturday in the Oilspus Final winning their 3rd straight elimination finals match. They now go into Saturdays Grand Final against current premiers Country.

With the REC too wet for play after a wet week the final was transferred to Redmond Oval, Millthorpe. Canowindra won the toss and elected to bat. Openers Ben Schafer and Sam Austin got away to a good start. Schafer didn’t muck around hitting three six’s and a four in his innings of 34.

After he departed at the score at 40 there was a mini collapse where the middle order struggled to score and wickets fell. Canowindra were in trouble at 5 for 63 and on the brink, however a 62 run partnership between captain Nick Traves (31) and C Bloomfield (45) got them back into the match. A flurry from number 11 A Fisher (24) saw Canowindra post a competitive total of 171.

Adam Clarke as expected bowled well with 2 for 22 from 10 overs, Pat Tree 2 for 38, Stu Redfern 2 for 24 and Simon Badgery 3 for 47 all bowled well as they have all season.

In reply Millthorpe got off to a very slow start losing their first wicket in the sixth over with just 6 runs on the board. Will Oldham steadied the ship some what and tried to get things going for the home team but unfortunately he didn’t have much support.

Millthorpe’s normally reliable middle order either went cheaply or got starts but couldn’t go on with it. However remarkably with the help of their lower order they were still in the game.

Millthorpe 9 wickets down needed 21 runs from the final two overs. However it was all too much and Millthorpe fell 9 runs short in the final over all out for 162.

The ever reliable Will Oldham top scored with 42. For Canowindra Nick Traves capped off a fine game taking 3 for 21 from his 10 overs.

Brendan Traves 2 for 27 and Sam Austin 2 for 41 also bowled well to contain Millthorpe. An upset victory with team 5 eliminating team 2. Millthorpe will be disappointed with their batting which ultimately let them down. However they have been a consistent team all season and proved they are one of the powerhouses in the Oilsplus competition. They are probably one batsmen short of having a real crack at the premiership.

Well with the current Premiers and this seasons Minor Premiers Country playing the team that finished 5th at the end of the regular season you would be excused for suggesting this match will be a cakewalk for the Premiers.

However Canowindra come into this match with great momentum and confidence having swept all before them in the finals matches to date. This is a dangerous match for Country and is theirs to lose. Most will expect them to win, however there are a few things that will even this match up. Country have only played 1 match in the last four weeks.

Will this hinder their preparation who knows.

They are seasoned grand finalists so they should be good to go. Their great strength is their batting line up right though to their tail they have players who can score runs. They will be looking for Brett Wykes, Trent Frazer, Nigel Brazier, John Mullhall, Dan Toynton and Andrew Heath to all score runs. Their bowlers are consistent and accurate led by Stu Brisbane and John Mullhall. However it may be spin that takes the game away from Canowindra as Dan Toynton and Trent Frazer will move the ball and be dangerous on turf. Look for a big game from all rounder Jock Haynes he can be a match winner. For Canowindra to win someone in their top order will need to record a big score.

They do not have the batting depth of Country and additionally may struggle on turf. They will be looking and the Traves brothers, the Austin brothers and C Bloomfield to bat well. Their bowling is strong and their fielding against Millthorpe last week was brilliant. Jamie Austin, Nick Traves and Sam Austin hold the key for early breakthroughs. Brendan Traves will come on and keep the pressure on the batsmen.

Should be a great match Country are clear favorites playing at home playing against a team in great form. Should be a beauty. Good luck to both teams. Game commences 1pm Umpire – Allan Hubbard.
