President Dear members of the Molloy community, With this annual report of last year’s activities, we reflect on a time of insightful review and thoughtful planning for the University. Molloy’s Strategic Planning Committee graciously served the entire community by examining current practices and policies, institutional culture, and program offerings. The Committee evaluated our identity from multiple perspectives and carefully crafted a pathway toward the future.

The robust planning process was approached with the dedication and zeal that the Molloy community is known for. The Committee collegially tackled difficult discussions as they navigated the task of plotting a strategic course for Molloy. They developed attainable and measurable goals and objectives designed to pave the way for the future of Molloy University and higher education in the region.

The Strategic Plan, which will guide Molloy over the next five years and impact each of us in unique ways, has been structured using an overarching thematic structure. The themes you will find throughout the report are: Uphold, Unite, Usher and Update the New U. I chose to dedicate much of this annual report to the comprehensive work behind the plan. Please note the QR code below as this will take you directly to the plan should you want more detailed information regarding its development and contents.

Contained here you will also find an overview of recent grants the University has been awarded, interesting quotes from donors regarding why they chose to support Molloy and the requisite financial information.

Future W

hat is a pathway?

As defined by the Oxford Dictionary, it is “a way of achieving a specified

result, or course of action.” If we examine that at an even more granular level a “course of action” is defined as “a plan; a set of intended actions, through which one intends to achieve a goal.”

In the case of Molloy University, the “pathway to the future” refers to the recently adopted 2023-2028 Strategic Plan. The plan was created through collaborative efforts by the entire community. Input was included from faculty, staff, students, administrators, and the Board of Trustees.

The Strategic Planning Committee provided a forum where many complex conversations took place. Those discussions were the genesis of the comprehensive plan that will lead the University into the future.

Community

W

e will continue to build a sense of community by creating a pervasive culture of diversity, equity and inclusion. Education and communication regarding the

Dominican tradition and the mission will be increased and focused on in ways to assist with addressing issues of social justice. Thereby improving representation, inclusion, belonging and thriving for every member of the Molloy community.

University-wide wellness initiatives will be developed to promote multiple dimensions of wellbeing. We will ensure that assets of curricula and student support services are in alignment with the goals that are attentive to the needs of all students living on or off campus and ranging from first-generation to adult learners.

The principles of DEI in teaching and learning will be embraced by enhancing and sustaining diverse representation among faculty, staff and administration. Molloy’s academic programs and support services will also reflect diverse perspectives, transformative education and attend to issues of social justice.

Additionally, we will emphasize and articulate Molloy’s mission, values and guiding virtues. The community will work to improve awareness of the University’s heritage and commitment to DEI and belonging through education.

culture of innovation in pedagogy and curriculum will be essential to

supporting all students as they develop their skills, knowledge, and disposition to transform local/global communities. The Molloy community will foster academic advancement through innovative research, creative activity, scholarship, and teaching.

Molloy will support curricular innovation through the faculty professional center and the schools.

We will identify mechanisms to assess courses to address diverse learning perspectives, and the community will recognize faculty for innovative teaching practices. General Education requirements will be reviewed to ensure

curriculum is cohesive, meets stated learning outcomes and objectives and supports the Molloy mission.

Student success data across the University will be analyzed to identify areas for improvement and develop targeted interventions. Existing programs will also be evaluated to ensure consistency with current pedagogical disciplinary trends to close equity gaps.

The community will seek professional development opportunities for faculty dedicated to innovation. Undergraduate and graduate student research experiences and support will be increased. There will be an expansion of opportunities, financial resources, professional development and other support for faculty and students to engage in high-impact research, creative activity, scholarship and instruction. Faculty capacity to seek external funding to support teaching, learning, research, creative activity and scholarship will be fostered.

Sustainable Growth M

olloy will implement new and adaptable approaches to enrollment, recruitment, and retention. We will look to increase both undergraduate

and graduate enrollment and improve retention rates.

We will evaluate current academic offerings and explore new high-demand academic programs to determine the balance between market demand, mission fit, and academic strengths. A data informed approach will be used to develop new academic programs that respond to community demands.

Programs that address expanding opportunities for adult learners, degree completers and those seeking education to meet the needs of the regional workforce will be implemented.

Policies and practices will be made more responsive to support the adult learner and beneficial community partnerships will be developed.

Enrollment patterns and programs will be reviewed to identify ways to refresh academic offerings holistically. Molloy will develop custom programs to respond to the workforce development needs of local industries and organizations.

The community will work to ensure the financial health of the institution while achieving sustainable growth. Alternative revenue sources will be identified, and

Additionally, we will grow and expand the endowment by building a culture of philanthropy and we will expand corporate and foundation support.

n institution-wide commitment to purposefully utilizing data-

informed assessment for continuous improvement will be cultivated. We will adopt best practices using data in decision-making and assessment of all operational areas. The University will utilize data in process and program review and will establish policies and procedures for support services review.

Marketing and branding strategies to increase applications and enrollment in Molloy’s existing and developing programs will be employed and

assessed. A comprehensive data warehouse architecture will be created, and an operational planning framework and assessment system will be developed. The efficacy of website activity using SEO data will also be evaluated.

The University will evaluate and improve technological infrastructure emphasizing security, mobility and flexibility. Facilities and technology will be enhanced to improve the student and employee experience. Additionally, a cybersecurity program will be implemented.

Sustainability will be the campus-wide focus as we move forward. Space allocations and constraints will be studied. The community will consider flexible work models and will work to create state-of-the-art physical and virtual instructional spaces.

Grants Mother Cabrini Health Foundation: $2,500,000 (2023) Molloy received its third award from MCHF more than tripling its grant from last year with expansion to four collaborative projects under the umbrella of the Molloy University Center for Health Equity. Pillar One: Community Outreach, Screening, and Education – Through the mobile clinic, the multidisciplinary team continues to provide free health and wellness services to Long Island communities with low rates of insurance coverage and healthcare utilization.

Pillar Two: Person-Centered Continuum of Community Care – Multidisciplinary care for community members identified in outreach work, as well as those referred by local nonprofits who need further and/or ongoing intervention but are unable to secure care with traditional service providers. Pillar Three: Professional Development and Community Capacity Building – Enhancing skills and strengths of area professionals and nonprofit organizations in providing need-based services and programs to underserved populations.

Pillar Four: Collaborative Community Approach to Healthcare Workforce Development – Partnering with local healthcare providers, this initiative promotes education, job opportunity, job growth, and career satisfaction in health-related fields while addressing health disparities. In all four pillars, scholarship support is provided to Molloy students who are integral team members.

and disorders, clinical mental health counseling, education, social work, music therapy, and business work together to bring resources to historically marginalized communities. Externally, community partners include schools, libraries, food pantries, homeless shelters, Head Start programs, healthcare facilities, among others.

Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration – Campus Suicide Prevention: $306,000 (2022-2025) Under the auspices of the Student Counseling Center, #HearIAM 2.0 was funded with SAMHSA’s Garrett Lee Smith Campus Suicide Prevention Grant. This federally funded project, now in its second 3-year funding cycle, pursues a comprehensive public health approach, utilizing evidencebased practices, to address suicide ideation and mental and substance use disorders on campus. This is accomplished by providing therapeutic services, strengthening networking infrastructure, creating early intervention and effective response through screening, education, outreach, and training; and increasing protective factors that promote mental health.

New York Community Trust / Horace and Amy Hagedorn Fund: $125,000 (2023) The Office of Experiential Learning received grant support to continue the Rising Star Academic Enrichment Program which provides 90 rising 5th graders, selected by their school districts based on need and potential benefit, a quality summer program designed to cultivate academic competencies. The major focus is math, ELA and character education promoting positive socialization and youth development opportunities with STEAM as a new addition.

This unique program is truly a collaborative effort of various academic and administrative departments across campus offering experiential opportunities to Molloy students with the guidance of NYS certified teachers.

With their help, we can provide much needed supplies and more robust educational programming to the participating children from local schools. NYS Education Department – High Needs Nursing: $78,325 (2023) NYSED’s State Aid for High Needs Nursing Programs is intended to encourage independent postsecondary institutions to increase the number of students enrolled in their nursing degree programs. Health Resources & Services Administration – Nurse Faculty Loan Program: $65,598 (2022-2023)

NYS Education Department – Students with Disabilities for Postsecondary Success: $9,843 (2022-2023)

Since 2006, Molloy has been the recipient of $1,076,591 in federal funds from HRSA for the Nurse Faculty Loan Program. The purpose of this funding, which requires a 1/9 institutional match, is to increase the number of qualified nursing faculty. HRSA accomplishes this by providing funding to accredited schools of nursing to offer loans to students enrolled in advanced education nursing degree programs who are committed to becoming nurse faculty. In exchange for full-time postgraduation employment as nurse faculty, the program authorizes cancellation of up to 85 percent of any such loan after four years of faculty employment. Through the 2022-2023 academic year, 40 graduate nursing students, all except one at the doctoral level, have taken advantage of this resource and several have

Grants Humanities New York – Action Grant: $5,000 (2021-2023) HNY provided an Action Grant to support the Virtual Martin Luther King (vMLK) Exhibition at Molloy University: Days of Learning, Days of Service. This National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) funded digital humanities project is a re-creation of MLK’s “Fill Up the Jails” speech, of which there is no known recording, inviting audiences to experience the public address in a virtually redesigned architectural model of the original sanctuary.

The vMLK project features historical documentaries, listening experiences for the speech recreation, a virtual experience for the speech, and a reflection opportunity for participants. The three-day event series in January 2023 offered a Day of Learning for local high school students, followed by a

symposium for participants to see the exhibit and converse with the scholars who designed the project; and a set of tours for community members as part of MLK Day of Service.

“This project leverages advanced digitalaudio technology to recover a lost moment in history, a moment that was transformative in the trajectory of the civil rights movement because of the sustained advocacy work of African American community members in the South. By offering audiences a sense of this transformative experience, the vMLK project speaks into our current social issues related to race, equity, and justice.”

“Our grant success is due in large part to our collaborative spirit. Internal and external partnerships have helped us build an extensive grants portfolio of small to large impactful grants from a variety of funders.
