EMERGENCY HOUSING - CASTLE GROUNDS EMERGENCY HOUSING - CASTLE GROUNDS This concept was an interesting insight into emergency social housing and how it could be utilised in any region of the world: From any inner-city environment helping to deter homelessness in developed nations, through to housing displaced families in war-torn or disaster stricken countries. For this project, I investigated into existing portable infrastructure and the amenities that could be incorporated within. I found these to be mostly already existing within the camping industry. As well as IsoContainer shipping conversions that had been turned into affordable housing. Re-creating a timber framed shelter, that could be dismantled and repacked; allowing a two days notice to move if needed to a crisis zone area. I chose to design a pre-fabricated timber structure that needed minimal construction knowledge and experience, which could be installed by anyone. With majority of all services already attached to the superstructure and ready for use after installation, with a “plug & play” ethos. It was to include: • Water reclaimination system for the portable shower unit and cleaning facilities. • Compacted fold-out furniture, that would benefit on space saving internally. • Suitable storage facilities located internally. • All pre-constructed to allow ease of installation. • All to be usable once construction completed.
