New Program Model: Regional Jewish Educators Enhancing Jewish Learning One of our newer initiatives, we now have two part-time Regional Jewish Educators available to residents focused on building relationships and supporting them in crafting their own Jewish learning sessions. Over the first half of the year the Educators made 12 house visits working with 40+ residents.

“Our first Moishe House experiences were in Shanghai and Siberia on a 2014 JDC mission, and they were powerful. Upon returning home to Boston, we worked with Moishe House, leaders of our community’s 2015 population study and our Federation to map out a 5-year plan to address the growing need for connections among 50,000 Jewish millennials in our own area. Today, MH is in the midst of opening 8 houses in Boston and has redefined what constitutes impact and saturation in a global gateway city. It feels great to know that we have had a real impact with our philanthropy.”

Loren Berman, East Coast Regional Jewish Educator, while visiting Moishe House DC - Capitol Hill, celebrated a community member’s conversion to Judaism, brainstormed with residents how to learn Pirke Avot (Jewish ethical teachings) and co-led, with Moishe House residents and community members, a learning session in the office of U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Maryland).

Hadar Cohen, West Coast Regional Jewish Educator, worked in-person with West LA House residents to craft Jewish learning sessions to add to a Breast Cancer Awareness event and Havdalah. Together they learned about the importance of Bikkur Holim, visiting the sick and Hadar led and coached the residents in how to do Havdalah on their own, some for the first time.

“Thank you for taking the time to come out and visit us at Moishe House Boulder! In those few days I was able to tap back into spiritual practices that have gone by the wayside for me.

Sometimes I’m so concerned about getting food on the table for Shabbat and events that it’s hard to give myself space to get spiritually connected. I so appreciate the things you brought us, and I hope we’ll have a chance to sing and learn together again.”

Moishe House Triangle residents were joined by The Jewish Federation of Durham-Chapel Hill CEO Jill Madsen, and Dr. Beth Goldstein, MH Triangle supporter, to celebrate their new location.

Moishe House Northern Virginia celebrated their new location surrounded

by The Jewish Federation of Greater Washington CEO Gil Preuss, Simone Friedman from the Emanuel J. Friedman Philanthropies and MH Board member Dottie Bennett.

In Moishe House Shanghai, residents and alumni joined representatives of the UJA-Federation of New York Women’s Philanthropy Division and MH International Council member Josh Perlman, for Shabbat.

Moishe House Budapest residents were visited by a group of young leaders from Minneapolis Jewish Federation and the Heilicher Family Foundation.
