A PLACE FOR REFLECTION
As we celebrate our 155th year, we are grateful to steward our family’s legacy forward. In 1869, Albert Smiley founded Mohonk Mountain House as a quiet retreat to nature and a place to reconnect with friends and loved ones. In a world of digital clutter and calendar notifications, Mohonk is a lifeline for those who need a break from the hustle. We are more committed than ever to Albert’s core mission to provide opportunities for re-creation and renewal of body, mind, and spirit in this beautiful natural setting. We invite you to embrace moments of quiet reflection when you walk alongside Lake Mohonk, hike to the edge of the ridge, or stroll through the gardens. Let the serenity of the mountaintop fill you.
NEW IN OUR 155TH YEAR
Grounded in our history, we continue to innovate. We’ve opened 44 renovated rooms, and feature a new round of seasonal spa treatments and Après Adventure options to complement our various opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts. We’ve unveiled our winter snow tubing hill—popular for all ages—and our biggest news is the introduction of the Pinnacle Ledge Tour and Via Ferrata: new outdoor adventures with breathtaking views.
We can’t wait to welcome you to the mountaintop!

A TIMELESS SENSE OF WONDER FOR 155 YEARS
SO MUCH TO SEE & DO
Even though Mohonk Mountain House has been around for 155 years, there’s a sense of newness and wonder to every visit. Whether you try new activities such as our Via Ferrata—featuring cable traverses across the cliffs and an aerial sky bridge—or find age-old favorites like the Labyrinth rock scramble, Mohonk always feels vibrant and full of life.
REVISIT TIMELESS FAVORITES
A trip to Mohonk feels like you’re visiting so many places all wrapped up in one: the show gardens, Sky Top Tower—which celebrated 100 years in 2023—gorgeous vistas, the pure serenity of Lake Mohonk, and new dining options such as Founders.
A COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY SINCE 1869
We continue to honor the beauty of our surroundings with sustainability efforts. We feature water-refilling stations throughout the House for your water bottles and complimentary charging stations for electric vehicles. New hives of Mohonk honeybees allow us to offer hyper-local honey in our Gift Shop and in hand-crafted cocktails. The Spa at Mohonk Mountain House was named the #1 Eco Spa in the US by Women’s Health in 2023. Honored by the UN Environment Programme for our “commitment to the protection and enhancement of the environment” and named a Sustainability Champion by Historic Hotels of America, we continue our legacy of preserving the natural beauty around us.

THEN & NOW | WELLNESS
In 1946, when Bert and Francis Smiley were at the helm at Mohonk Mountain House a “Creed for Mohonk” was written. It stated:
78 years later, we still believe. Guests today still explore miles of trails— hiking, biking, or on horseback—enjoy sports, boating, the lake swim, or reading in a rocking chair overlooking the lake. Live music fills the air, and our Director of Mindfulness—Nina Smiley, Ph.D.—teaches how to live peacefully in each moment. The Lakeview Summerhouse offers spa treatments and private fitness in the heart of nature, and Wellness in the Wild programs feature curated activities by season for spa visits, outdoor exercise, and communing with nature. Our ethos, whether at its inception in 1869, or re-energized in 1946, remains steadfast. A visit to Mohonk is like food for the soul.
MINDFUL MILESTONES
By NINA SMILEY Ph.D., Director of Mindfulness Programming
As Mohonk celebrates 155 years, we recognize the milestones that have shaped us: the first telephone installed, automobiles arriving, building the spa. Mohonk’s evolution from a 10-room tavern to a 262-room resort was not linear. Yet throughout, a mindful awareness of the essence of Mohonk has allowed change to occur while still honoring our core values.
We all have milestones: moving to a new home, taking new jobs, cultivating new relationships. Or having children, and seeing their life events become milestones in our lives. When we honor these events in a mindful way, we connect our past to our present, understanding who we are and who we’d like to be.
MINDFUL MOMENTS
Mindfulness is the ability to be present in the moment, experiencing the senses, being aware of thoughts and emotions, observing what is happening internally and externally. We suspend judgment, and approach each moment with gentle curiosity.
Using mindfulness, you can honor the moments that create milestones in your life. Taking even a short time out can support well-being as you close your eyes, clear the mind, calm the body, and focus on breathing gently and fully. Being present in the moment where you are right now is an opportunity for insight, curiosity, creativity, and a new perspective. As you open your eyes, see with “new” eyes—take in colors, shapes, and textures. The centeredness that comes with this experience can refresh and renew your presence right now, no matter where you are or where you aim to be.
NURTURE MIND, BODY, & SPIRIT WITH NATURE-INSPIRED TREATMENTS
Embark on a transformative journey of rejuvenation at the Spa at Mohonk Mountain House, named the ‘BEST ECO-FRIENDLY SPA’ by Women’s Health magazine.
APRÈS ADVENTURE MASSAGE
This post-adventure healing massage is perfect after a day of activity on the mountaintop, specifically tailored to combat stress on muscles and joints. Feel the tension melt away during this Swedish-based recovery massage, combining anti-inflammatory muscle cream with CBD and therapeutic clay heat packs.
SKIN AWAKENING BODY RITUAL
This invigorating ritual is designed with three key phases. A full body exfoliation begins with two natural loofahs to remove dry skin. Next, a warm citrus oil combined with green tea prepares the skin, using a crafted teakwood and colloidal silver body tool to gently cleanse with long soothing strokes. A calming face and scalp massage conclude this unique full body ritual.
PIETRO SIMONE SKINCARE
We are pleased to present exclusive services created by celebrity skincare artist Pietro Simone. Both treatments incorporate his signature touch techniques which have won acclaim from beauty experts worldwide. Indulge in the HIMALAYAN SALT STONE EXPERIENCE or the REPAIR & RESTORE FACIAL.
