1:50 Scale model process

The garden is what truly makes a house along with all other components. Utilising this space well would give the user lots of space to host garden parties and get active in the space of their own home. There is more than enough space to do other things like entertain in the garden and we thought this would be a good use as it would also make room for others to appreciate the architecture of the house, not just from the inside and the front, but from the back as well. The windows were made to be biger so a lot of natural light can cast throughout the house. I wanted to ensure that there was an equal balance between the outside and the inside so that the flow of the nature outside, the garden and the house was natural

The whole floor layout was drawn on autocad meaning that it could be sent to the laser cutter to be cut out. All green lines are etch lines and the red lines are the cut lines. When it was sent to the laser cutter the pieces were cut out and etched and it was then put together by hand to make the house and the inside floors.

The process of the final model took longer than the first. It took a lot of time and care putting pieces together and making more little items to finalise the interior. One piece at a time I helped to put the house together in a way where I was happy with the outcome. After the house was made it was on to making the garden.

The grass for the garden was made from resin. I initially took black resin and turned it into all autumn shades. Green for the actual grass and then orangey red and yellow to show the autumnal season. The resin was initially painted a several amount of times with acrylic paint of the right consistency mixed with some white paint and water to get the fulleffect of my desire. I then left it to dry for a few days and then crumbled it to make the texture grass like. The pathway of the drive and garden is made from cat litter to give the rubble and stoney effect and was spread over a large amount of PVA glue and then was left to set so that it would stay in place. The pool was also made from a blue plastic wallet to give that water effect and was cut to size. The oak tree was also made out of copper wire and was twisted into place

For the bushes at the front of the house, cotton wool was formed together on a cardboard cut out to give the desired shape of a bush. it was then dyed with different colours, greens, browns and yellows to make the bush look more realistic. The inside tiling of the house was printed out and cut to shape to fit the floor of the house and was then glued down in place. This is the same with the actual flooring, it was also printed out and stuck down.
