The Labour of Our Heroes Past

In the course of Nigerian history, several leaders have had the opportunity to rule over Nigeria. In hopes of reforming their country, these men gained power through some of the most aggressive and brutal coups, others were handed power to them, and others through majority votes in elections.

ESSAY 58 \n-\m-Zw-
BOSCO BABU

When Nigeria gained independence from the British in 1960, the new constitution established a federal system with an elected prime minister and a ceremonial head of state. The NCNC party headed by Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, formed a coalition with Abubakar Tafawa Balewa's NPC party. Balewa, whose face is familiar from the 5 Naira note, continued to serve as the prime minister, a position he had held since 1957.

Azikiwe took the largely ceremonial position of president of the Senate. On October 1, 1963, Nigeria became a republic. Azikiwe became president of the country, although as prime minister Balewa was still more powerful. Azikiwe is portrayed on the 500 Naira note and another notable individual on the 100 Naira note is Chief Obafemi Awolowo of the AG party who played the opposition role.

In the following years, cultural tensions, discontentment with the ruling officials, and rumors of corruption were on the rise. Finally, in January of 1966, Chukwuma Nzeogwu, an officer in the Nigerian army along with several other accomplices instigated a coup against the federal government, the first coup in Nigerian history. This coup claimed the lives of Prime Minister Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Samuel Akintola, and several others. This coup brought Major Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi into power. He had escaped the coup plotters the night of the coup and also subdued the coup later on as he was the General in Command of the Nigerian army.

However, the losses incurred were seen in a cultural context; prominent northern leaders were assassinated, not many of the coup plotters were punished and Ironsi, the current leader, was of the same ethnicity as the coup plotters. The military intervention worsened the political situation, as the army itself split along ethnic lines, its officers clashed overpower, and the instigators and leaders of the January coup were accused of favoring Igbo domination.

Six months later, in July, a coup instigated by Lt. Col Murtala Mohammed and several others led to the death of over 300 soldiers. The counter-coup resulted in the murder of Nigeria's first military Head of State; General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi and Lt Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi.

Upon the termination of Ironsi's government, Lt. Colonel Yakubu Gowon

59 Zn- -thmbvkv Hm-^v Imt\m a-e-bm-fo--kv
Bosco Babu

was appointed Head of State by the July 1966 coup conspirators. Gowon is known for leading Nigeria in the Nigerian Civil War (6 July 1967 – 15 January 1970) between the government of Nigeria and the Republic of Biafra, a secessionist state which had declared its independence from Nigeria in 1967, led by Lt. Colonel Odumegwu Ojukwu. The war had a death toll of around a hundred thousand and around 3 million people were displaced as refugees.

On the 29th of July 1975, a faction of junior Armed Forces officers overthrew General Yakubu Gowon in a bloodless military coup. At the time of the coup, Gowon was attending the 12th OAU Summit in Kampala, Uganda. The coup plotters appointed Brigadier Murtala Mohammed as head of state, and Brigadier Olusegun Obasanjo as his deputy. Nigeria under Murtala presided throughout rampant economic prosperity and he also added 7 more states to Nigeria and unveiled plans for the demilitarization of politics.

On 13 February 1976, General Muhammed was assassinated along with his aide-de-camp by a group of soldiers at Ikoyi in Lagos. The assassination was part of an attempted coup led by Lt. Col Buka Suka Dimka who was executed on 15 May 1976. Today, Muhammed's portrait adorns the 20 Naira note.

the government and the installation of Major General Muhammadu Buhari as head of state. Nigerian rule was once again under the military. Buhari was strict with his policies and against corruption. The military coup of Buhari shortly after the regime's re-election in 1984 was generally viewed as a positive development but only lasted till 27th August 1985. He was overthrown in another coup and placed under house arrest in Benin until 1988 by General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.

nigeria has had 13 head of states, among which 2 were assassinated, 2 have ruled twice at 2 different times as army officials and civilians in 2 consecutive terms, and one went from vice president to president. the past events are filled with deception, murder, luck, and fear, reality nothing short of a captivating drama or movie.

Following the coup of 1983, Babangida started scheming to overthrow the military head of state General Muhammadu Buhari. The palace coup of 1985 was orchestrated with a degree of military deftness hitherto not seen in the history of coup plotting. The whole affair carried out by Babangida as ringleader was planned at the highest levels of the army cultivating his strategic relationship with allies: Sani Abacha, Aliyu Gusau, Halilu Akilu, Mamman Vatsa, Gado Nasko, and younger officers from his days as an instructor in the military academy.

Muhammed was succeeded by the Chief of Staff, Supreme HQ Olusegun Obasanjo. He ruled from Feb 1976 to Sept 1979. He completed his plan of an orderly transfer to civilian rule by handing power to Shehu Shagari on 1 October 1979 and the second republic of Nigeria was born. The Shagari government became viewed as corrupt by virtually all sectors of Nigerian society. In August 1983 Shagari and the NPN were returned to power in a landslide victory. But the elections were marred by violence, and allegations of widespread vote-rigging and electoral malfeasance led to legal battles over the results.

The 1983 military coup took place on New Year's Eve of that year. It was coordinated by key officers of the Nigerian military and led to the overthrow of

Babangida justified the coup in a speech describing General Muhammadu Buhari's military regime as "too rigid". Babangida ruling by a decree promulgated his official title as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He established the Armed Forces Ruling Council (AFRC) as the highest law-making council serving as Chairman. He promised to end military rule by 1990 but the date was subsequently pushed back to 1993.

IBB had overcome a coup attempt on April 20th, 1990 in which Sani Abacha also luckily escaped execution. Hundreds of people, including some civilians, were arrested after the coup attempt and the death toll involved in the shootouts between the rebel forces and the government troops coupled with the post-trial executions that took place made it the bloodiest coup in Nigeria's history. Gideon Orkar and 41 of his co-conspirators were captured

ESSAY 60 \n-\m-Zw-

by government troops. They were convicted of treason and on 27th July 1990, they were executed.

In the spring of 1989, IBB lifted the ban on political activity, which had been in place since the coup of 1983. Two political parties were established; the center-right National Republican Convention and the center-left Party.

The presidential election was postponed until 12 June 1993 due to political unrest. MKO Abiola won a decisive victory in the presidential elections on the SDP platform. Abiola won in over two-thirds of Nigerian states. Men of northern descent largely dominated Nigeria's political landscape after independence and the win by Abiola, a southern Muslim, remains unequaled today.

IBB eventually bowed to pressure from his inner circle and resigned from office on 23 August 1993. Ernest Shonekan assumed the office of the presidency as the head of the interim national government which would help transition into the Third Nigerian Republic. Shonekan was unable to manage the political turmoil which ensued in the post-IBB months and was quietly removed from office by Minister of Defense, General Sani Abacha on 17 November 1993.

On 11 June 1994, president-elect Abiola, declared himself president and went into hiding. The Abacha administration hunted Abiola down and arrested him on charges of treason. Abiola remained in prison until he died in 1998 and is known as the 'president who never ruled'.

Sani Abacha who was born in Kano, came into power on 17 November 1993. Abacha's administration oversaw an increase in the country's foreign exchange reserves with other development activities as well. He was also accused of fund embezzlements and was known to terminate or arrest anyone who stepped across his path. He died in office and numerous speculations surround the circumstances of his death. After Abacha's death, General Abdulsalami Abubakar became head of state, whose short tenure ushered the Fourth Nigerian Republic into existence. He was the 11th president of Nigeria from 9 June 1998 till 29 May 1999.

Enter Obasanjo. During Sani Abacha's Reign, Obasanjo advised Abacha several times on decisions made by the military government. He was later seen as a potential conspirator by Abacha’s government and on 14 July, the

court sentenced Obasanjo to 25 years in prison. After US President Bill Clinton stated that his country would embargo Nigerian oil if the court orders took place, Abacha reduced Obasanjo's sentence to 15 years. After Abacha's death, a week into power, Abubakar ordered Obasanjo's release, Now a free man, Obasanjo regained his international trust and was seen as an ideal candidate for leading Nigeria into the 4th republic. He won the elections with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was sworn into office as Nigeria's 12th president on 29 May 1999. Seeking a northerner as the PDP's vice-presidential candidate, Obasanjo selected Atiku Abubakar. Obasanjo was re-elected in a tumultuous 2003 election that had violent ethnic and religious overtones.

His main opponent was fellow former military ruler General Muhammadu Buhari. His hopes for a 3rd-time presidency were not successful and he stepped down after the April 2007 general election. Umaru Musa Yar'Adua won the Nigerian presidential election held on 21 April 2007 and was sworn in on 29 May 2007 He previously served as the governor of Katsina and was a member of the PDP. He died on 5 May 2010.

Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan served as Vice President of Nigeria from 2007 to 2010 under the administration of Yar'Adua. Following President Yar'Adua's death, acting President Goodluck Jonathan was sworn in as the substantive president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on 6 May 2010. A year later, on 29 May 2011, he was sworn in as President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, becoming Nigeria's 14th Head of State.

Reenter the current president of Nigeria; Muhammadu Buhari. Jonathan lost the 2015 presidential election to the former military head of state and was the first incumbent president in Nigerian history to concede defeat in an election. Buhari of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) assumed office on 29 May 2015 and became Nigeria’s 15th President. He went on to also win the 2019 elections against Atiku Abubakar.

Nigeria has had 13 head of states, among which 2 were assassinated, 2 have ruled twice at 2 different times as army officials and civilians in 2 consecutive terms, and one went from vice president to president. Although a lot of conspiracy theories exist behind the rise and fall of several leaders, the past events are filled with deception, murder, luck, and fear, reality nothing short of a captivating drama or movie.

Unconditional Love of Mom

I am tired of merely surviving, This World may be cruel one, But you will always love me, No matter what you must sacrifice, You will always protect me, Even if the end, it all falls apart, You will never doubt my convictions, To be righteous means to hold in my heart, And to have an ironclad faith in myself.

Two ways, Two paths

Dad & Mom

Dear dad, I love you dad.

You are my super hero always. You are a perfect man like no other. I am very lucky to have the world's greatest dad. I love you so much dad.

Dear mom, I love you mommy

You are so kind, caring & strong. I want to hold you tight & Hug you. Your love is like a sea.

I am so lucky to have the Wonderful & super mom. I love you mommy. Peace shall not be taken for everyone

Your passion, your fate; one for everyone

Though as for that the passing there Can only chose one path, thinking that’s not fair And that has made all the difference

Two roads, two paths, two ways

“No choice for everyone"; I shall say The daylight leaves in good time

The cold breeze is our incubus A tramp will do anything for a dime

Ways and paths, only to the light Follow the fervour, only to the light Diligent and flair, thy shall have the triumph Full of exhilaration, just a slice of oomph Joy nor wonder, God have mercy on the souls

Two ways, two paths, two roads

Food Security in India

Food security thus is a broadly scoped subject which measures the security aspect of an individual or household through interaction with a broad range and socio-economic factors.

A nation achieves food security when all three pillars are maintained at a sufficient and stable scale. The definition and pillars of food security act as a gauge for India to retrospect its current standing in terms of food security. It is unfortunate that India, a country conquering the echelon of economic growth, also happens to be one of the most malnourished nations in the world. Over 33 lakh children in India are malnourished and more than half of them fall in the severely malnourished category. It is also to be noted that a significant number of pregnant and lactating females suffer from diseases arising due to malnourishment such as iron deficiency anemia. The Indian government recognizing the implications of the issue has

put forth many reforms in forms of acts and schemes to achieve the safe standards of nutrition and food security. The National Food Security Act(NFSA), National Nutrition Strategy(NNS) and National Nutrition Mission(NNM) are key steps in this regard. However, the threats of food insecurity and malnourishment vary geographically therefore the steps

taken against the problems require region-specific investment and should be backed with evidencebased interventions.

The concept of food security has changed considerably over the past decades and this is reflected in the approach adopted by India in tackling the problem. Until the 1980s, a period ravaged by famines and droughts, India largely prioritized food availability and aimed to achieve staple food self-sufficiency.

The green revolution, increased public investment in the agricultural sector, the constitution of the public distribution system, better availability of credit and subsidies to farmers, helped India achieve remarkable progress

Food security has three essential pillars, which are:

Availability of food: The pillar includes the aggregate availability of food in a nation, including its domestic production and external imports(commercial imports and food aids).

Access to food: Accessibility of food to a household, made available through livelihood and sourced from channels such as home production, market or other sources.

Utilization of food: Appropriations of food material to have optimum utilization so as to suffice the specific dietary and health needs of an individual or household.

As per the 1996 World Food Summit Plan of Action, “food security exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life”.

in this regard. Though the actions resulted in surplus food production, the problems of food access and malnutrition remained large.

Post, 1980s one can see a shift in policies, with India adopting the entitlement-based approach towards food security. The approach rightly recognizes that the mere availability of food does not necessarily get translated into accessibility of food. Inputs from scholars like Sen played a crucial role in development of the approach, channeling the shift of focus of policies from addressing national food security to individual level food and nutrition security. The recognition of accessibility to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities also became crucial parts of the approach.

The following sections of the essay discusses the three pillars of food security within the Indian context and gives a brief overview of various schemes and policies adopted to curb food insecurity and malnourishment.

Availability of food

Availability of food in an adequate and consistent manner to the general population, without compromising on the nutritional requirements, is definitely the first step towards malnutrition free India.

The development of the agriculture sector was pivotal for India in achieving this goal, enabling its transformation from a food deficient nation to being a self-sufficient nation. But the transition to a top food grain producing country has not altered its ground reality, where large swathes of the population is still affected by acute hunger and food insecurity.

Accessibility to food

As mentioned above, the translation

The recent production and consumption trends of India as well as schemes to promote food production and food availability are summarized below:

Rice and wheat constitute around 80% of the total food grains production. These two crops form the bulk of Indian agriculture and provide food, and employment to millions of people. But the recent production trends reveal the declining trend in the net availability of these two crops. The trend can be explained by the pressure from the demand side. With a nation of growing population it is essential to maintain the demand-supply balance of food crops.

India is the largest producer of pulses in the world. Nevertheless, it also happens to be the largest producer of pulses in the world. There needs to be a proactive measure to calibrate the rising imports of pulses, substituting it with domestic production. Providing MSP to all types of pulses in a timely manner could be a welcome move. Distribution of the pulses through the PDS system can increase the accessibility of these nutritious grains to the wider public.

Some of the schemes initiated by the Government include Soil Health Card scheme, Pradan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, which aims to improve irrigation and water availability, and Pradan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, which provides crop insurance to farmers in events of crop failures.

of food availability to accessibility is imperative in ensuring Food security. The consumption trend of nutritious food is an important indicator of the success of the food availability in a country. As per NSSO consumer expenditure data of 2011-12, rural and urban households spend 48.6% and 38.5% of their monthly income on food.

The high out of pocket expenditure indicates the economic stress borne by a family to acquire food. Casual labour and people from SC,ST and OBC category were the most vulnerable social categories in terms of per capita per day consumption of energy. Though not free from shortcomings, the Public Distribution System has been a reliable source of food to larger sections of the population across India and has acted as a safeguard against food insecurity distributing essential food products at subsidized rates.

Utilization of food

Impacts of inadequate nutrition spreads not only at an individual level but also at macro level outcomes. As a nutrition deficient mother produces a child who has to grow in the same nutrition deficient environment, eventually growing up as a constituent of a weak workforce, stalling the growth of the country. Malnutrition thus restricts cognitive and physical development, eventually leading to low educational and economic attainment, fuelling poverty.

Various measures of Malnutrition are stuniting(low height-for-age), wasting(low weight-for-height) and underweight(weight-for-age), which is a composite index of height-forage and weight-for-height.

India is a land of dichotomy. The dichotomy persists in the case of

Targeted Public Distribution System

The system is a modified version of PDS, and focuses on poorer sections of the population. It was piloted as a joint initiative by the central and state governments. The system has seen many improvements, such as end-to-end computerization intending to improve the last mile delivery of its benefits to the poor.

The technological upgrade also improves supply chain efficiency and reduces leakages. With the incidence of covid pandemic, the system was strengthened with the adoption of direct benefit transfer system.

Mid-day Meal Scheme

It is the world’s largest school meal programme aimed to attain the goal of universalization of primary education. Tamil Nadu was the first state to implement the program. The scheme in addition to its goal of improving the nutritional status of children was also pivotal in increasing the enrollment rates of students in school.

The program intends to provide a free supply of food grains and products in the form of lunch to children. The scheme has been revamped under the name of PM-POSHAN from 2021. The scheme, in addition to providing nutritional food to children, will now also monitor the nutritional level of children.

Integrated Child Development Services

The scheme was launched on 2nd October 1975, as one of the largest programme to improve nutritional and health status of children(0 to 6 years), and pregnant & lactating

women. The scheme provides nutritional supplements, awareness, child immunization, and consistent health check-up services. The scheme has four components, namely:

1. Early Childhood Care Education & Development

2. Care & Nutrition Counseling

3. Health Services

4. Community Mobilization Awareness, Advocacy & Information, Education and Communication

The scheme which is centrally sponsored will provide its beneficiaries with services such as supplementary nutrition, health & nutrition check-up, immunization, nutritional and health awareness, and referrals.

These services are provided from Anganwadi centers established mainly in rural areas and staffed with frontline workers. The anganwadi services( under the umbrella ICDS) is a centrally sponsored scheme and the central government releases grantin-aid to the states and UTs on a cost sharing basis.

National Food Security Act (NFSA),2013

NFSA is one of the most important policies to address hunger and food security in India. NFSA mandates ensuring access to adequate quantities of quality food at affordable prices for the vulnerable population of India.

The act bought all three food based safety nets under one umbrella and changed the coverage and entitlements under TPDS. NFSA aims at a coverage of 75% of rural and 50% of urban population. The NFSA also

food security too. Over the years, the Government of India has accorded the highest priority to combat malnutrition among its people through the introduction of Targeted Public Distribution System, Mid-day Meal Scheme (MDM), National Food Security Act (NFSA) 2013, Swachh Bharat Mission, Mission Indradhanush and POSHAN Abhiyan. But India is also the country

specifies nutritional standards for children, pregnant and lactating mothers. It stipulates that the nutritional standards are to be met by nutritious hotcooked meals in accordance with the ICDS for children in lower and upper primary classes under the MDM Scheme and for pregnant women and lactating mothers to be met by providing ‘Take Home Rations’.

National Nutrition Mission

The National Nutrition Mission (NNM) is a technology driven platform, which will monitor the growth of children as well as check the pilferage of food rations provided at Anganwadies.

The mission was coordinated as a joint effort of various ministries. The mission is an apex body responsible for monitoring, supervising, fixing targets and guiding nutritions related interventions. The mission intends to use technology at the core for real time monitoring of services delivered by Anganwadi workers and frontline community health workers of ASHAs and auxiliary nurse midwives. Further, it aims to promote use of smartphones by anganwadi workers and tablets by their supervisors in mapping nutrition or growth levels of beneficiaries. The NNM strives to create synergy among different schemes, ensure better monitoring, issue alerts for timely actions and encourageStates/UTs to perform, guide and supervise the line of ministries to achieve the targeted goals.

which houses a significant population of the world's malnourished. sections of the population like women, children, SC/STs and disabled people are relatively more vulnerable and need special attention. Effective implementation of additional programs and policies for these vulnerable groups would accelerate the overall growth and development of the nation.

Nutrition and health related intervention programs, policies and acts are critical in eliminating the prevalence of malnutrition. Prime of such are described below.

Eye Care

Your eyes are an important part of your health. Most people rely on their eyes to see and make sense of the world around them. But some eye diseases can lead to vision loss, so it is important to identify and treat eye diseases as early as possible. You should get your eyes checked as often as your health care provider recommends it, or if you have any new vision problems. And just as it is important to keep your body healthy, you also need to keep your eyes healthy.

Eye Care Tips

There are things you can do to help keep your eyes healthy and make sure you are seeing your best:

˜ Eat a healthy, balanced diet. Your diet should include plenty or fruits and vegetables, especially deep yellow and green leafy vegetables. Eating fish high in omega-3 fatty

acids, such as salmon, tuna, and halibut can also help your eyes.

˜ Maintain a healthy weight. Being overweight or having obesity increases your risk of developing diabetes. Having diabetes puts you at a higher risk of getting diabetic retinopathy or glaucoma.

˜ Get regular exercise. Exercise may help to prevent or control diabetes, high blood pressure, and

Eye Tests and Exams

Everyone needs to have their eyesight tested to check for vision and eye problems. Children usually have vision screening in school or at their health care provider's office during a checkup. Adults may also get vision screenings during their checkups. But many adults need more than a vision screening. They need a comprehensive dilated eye exam.

Getting comprehensive dilated eye exams is especially important because some eye diseases may not have warning signs. The exams are the only way to detect these diseases in their early stages, when they are easier to treat.

eye diseases such as macular degeneration and cataracts and can damage the optic nerve.

˜ Know your family medical history. Some eye diseases are inherited, so it is important to find out whether anyone in your family has had them. This can help you determine if you are at a higher risk of developing an eye disease.

The exam includes several tests:

˜ A visual field test to measure your side (peripheral) vision. A loss of peripheral vision may be a sign of glaucoma.

˜ A visual acuity test, where you read an eye chart about 20 feet away, to check on how well you see at various distances

˜ Tonometry, which measures your eye's interior pressure. It helps to detect glaucoma.

˜ Dilation, which involves getting eye drops that dilate (widen) your pupils. This allows more light to enter the eye. Your eye care provider examines your eyes using a special magnifying lens. This provides a clear view of important tissues at the back of your eye, including the retina, macula, and optic nerve.

˜ Know your other risk factors. As you get older, you are at higher risk of developing age- related eye diseases and conditions. It is important to know you risk factors because you may be able to lower your risk by changing some behaviours.

˜ If you wear contacts, take steps to prevent eye infections. Wash your hands well before you put in or take out your contact lenses. Also follow the instructions on how to properly clean them, and replace them when needed.

high cholesterol. These diseases can lead to some eye or vision problems. So if you exercise regularly, you can lower your risk of getting these eye and vision problems.

˜ Wear sunglasses. Sun exposure can damage your eyes and raise your risk of cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. Protect your eyes by using sunglasses

that block out 99 to 100% of both UV-A and UV-B radiation.

˜ Wear protective eyewear. To prevent eye injuries, you need eye protection when playing certain sports, working in jobs such as factory work and construction, and doing repairs or projects in your home.

˜ Avoid smoking. Smoking increases the risk of developing age-related

˜ Give your eyes a rest. If you spend a lot of time using a computer, you can forget to blink your eyes and your eyes can get tired. To reduce eyestrain, try the 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, look away about 20 feet in front of you for 20 seconds.

If you have a refractive error and are going to need glasses or contacts, then you will also have a refraction test. When you have this test, you look through a device that has lenses of different strengths to help your eye care professional figure out which lenses will give you the clearest vision.

Will Google Bring About The End of Privacy

ently evil about it as long as you're well aware of what's happening. At the end of the day, you are dealing with a profit seeking company that's providing you with some sort of service in exchange for some manner of money making.

The line of our private space had become vague now because Google knows even about our most personal stuffs. And there rises the question whether Google would bring about the end of Privacy?

Whenever I think about how Google has a watch over our lives, I get reminded about George Orwells 'Big Brother'. Its pretty much the same situation. Just like how Big Brother monitored every citizens life, Google records each over made by us, it knows whom we contact, where we go, what we watch and more. It's actually scary of we think about it.

Ads which pops up in our Instagram or Facebook shows how Google sells our searching habits to higher bidders.

If we search for a Bluetooth speaker in Google, within a few minutes we can see an advertisement about the latest deals in speakers in our Instagram handle. If Google has a track on our needs at the moment, it obviously has track on our personal lives too. These small ads are enough to realise what value Google gives to our Privacy.

But, if we look for another perspective, Google is a business. It's isn't a charitable organisation to offer its services for free. It has to find its way to make its profit. As far we know Google doesn't share personal information. It just uses our data to customise the ads according to our needs. Advertising is a legitimate model, and there's nothing inher-

We have all wished for a delete button in life just like there is in Google. But the truth is that, nothing is ever deleted from Google records. Because with our advanced technology anything can be retrieved. So Google doesn't even offer the basic privacy of premenantly erasing the data which we do not wish to store. Whatever business may it be, I don't think sharing our searches for money making is ethical.

Even if they have their justification, that they just uses the data that are relevant for their business, that is also a serious violation of Privacy. Google has to take the responsibility of valuing their customers Privacy. After all, Privacy is a basic human right!

Thank you.

We are living in a generation where Google reminds us about our parents birthdays. It's more like Google now has a irreplaceable part in our lives, that it has a track on how our life's going.

The Woodland Spirit

To wake when there's no hope, To sleep when trees flourish,

Born from silent tears and dew, Protected by evergreen orchards

And hidden by shadows, The Woodland Spirit will wake soon.

Lurking, hiding, waiting, The trees' guardian, And the poachers' bane, To be the Hail falling on a raging inferno.

We have spread our trash far enough, Now it's Nature's turn, To rage, battle, and win.

Now it's time to care, nurture and save, Time to atone, time to be compassionate, Fear the leafy phantom, Before The Woodland Spirit awakes.

The Change

The sun makes you warm, drenched in sweat, with the umbrella in your hand, you seek the cloud to shower down on you.

Though we love to splash in the rain, making paper boats and cranes, when it lasts a day more, our minds are flooded with the misery of the past, in vain, hoping for the sun again.

We don't see snow in our land, yet the feeling near the end of the year gives us enough chills for that. Wrapped in thick layers of memories and lessons, we await the clock to strike 12, to start over.

Amongst all these, we change, and as that happens, we grow as a person.

Service to

Humanity is Divinity

Health is the most important factor to live life to the fullest and an efficient Health care system is conventionally regarded as an important determinant in promoting the general physical and mental health and well-being of people around the world.

This is about my travel to one such place which I felt worth sharing. Unless we see and experience we may not believe many things. This is the place where I went myself and experienced the the wonderful and different ways where people are treated and cared. A place of love, kindness, affection and selfless service. One of the super speciality where lakhs of people reach for medical aid free of cost. The cleanliness of the place was heart touching as it's more likely to be known as 'Temple of Healing' than the term 'Hospital'.

Set in a vast area, the hospital is like no other healthcare facility I had ever been to.Constructed in six months with a structural area of 320,000 square feet, it is the first super speciality hospital in India to offer world-class tertiary care through state-of-the-art medical technology, totally free of charge to all the patients.

This 300 bedded tertiary care hospital is equipped with, 14 operation theatres, one intensive care unit, two cardiac catheterisation laboratories, five in-patient wards and a 24-hour emergency unit. It has a staff of specialists in cardiology, cardiotho-

racic and vascular surgery, urology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery, orthopaedics, gastroenterology, anaesthesiology, laboratory services and medical imaging. Patients from India and abroad avail the facilities at the hospital.

The Mission of the hospital is to provide high quality medical care free of charge to all irrespective of caste, creed, religion, and financial status in an atmosphere of love and care. World-class medical care absolutely free of cost with absolutely no billing counter. Love is the only currency in this temple of healing. Patients pay nothing for the world-class services received – including procedures that would easily cost lakhs regardless of their nationality, religious affiliation or financial circumstances.

This hospital has World class facilities, highly qualified and experienced Doctors from various parts of the world and experienced nurses .

Numerous surgeries and high class treatment is undergone here free of cost and the patients go back home with full satisfaction and happiness. This place is none other than the Sri Sathya Sai Super Speciality Hospital

located in the Sathya Sai District of Andhrapradesh state in India. Here, medicine is practiced as pure healing with no profit motive. Health models worldwide have been long riddled with escalating costs, varying the quality of care and ethical concerns related to commercialization of healthcare. But here, one can see the “value-based” care, the goal of which is to lower healthcare costs and improve quality and outcomes factors that augment “value” for patients and get well physically and mentally.

The term ‘Service of mankind is service to God” means that selfless service for the cause of humanity is as important as worshiping to God. Love of mankind is, in Vivekananda’s opinion, the worship of God.As a result of the service to mankind, there is a sense of oneness.

People who are despondent and disappointed will find hope and new life as a result of this. When peace and harmony become the primary motivation for every type of service offered to everyone, regardless of their age, ethnicity, gender, culture, religion, or present life situation, that makes a difference. Hats off to this great humanitarian service!
