As a former resident of Saudi Arabia, my school years immersed me in diverse cultural experiences, fostering an appreciation for human differences. Raised in a farming family, this background significantly influenced my architectural perspective.

I quickly transitioned from university to my career at Greenwood Barton Architects, honing my design and spatial skills. Working with new and historical buildings, I gained a deep understanding of detail and client interaction, whether it was a farmhouse or an institute renovation in Jabal Amman.

My journey took a turn when I became Assistant Global Ambassador for GS Youth Uniting NationsTM, a youth-led nonprofit.

This role combined my cultural awareness with essential business skills, presenting ideas and representing the organization in funding meetings and educational initiatives worldwide.

At Badran Design Studio, Studio, under Dr. Rasem Badran’s mentorship, I learned the art of creating buildings that gave meaning to public spaces.

This experience emphasized teamwork and knowing when to lead or collaborate.

Khammash Architects ignited my rural development journey, where I mastered the “HOW” of such projects, crafted comprehensive guidelines, and presented vernacular architecture in a luxurious style that harmonized with nature, all with the support of a skilled team that nurtured my growth.

In a modern context, I delved into designing a Cutter Suction Dredger for Vision Marine Co., Co., shifting from my previous work with the marine in freelance drawings and 3D design.

This experience ignited my keen interest in marine architecture and its execution.

To gain comprehensive insight into the structural intricacies of the stationary vessel, I conducted a thorough analysis through three distinct case study approaches. The initial step involved an on-site visit to an operational vessel located in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which is owned by Vision Marine Co. Subsequently, I engaged in an indepth examination of both printed and digital case studies.

This meticulous study revealed the vessel’s remarkable structural complexity, with a particular focus on the orderly 0.5-meter grid encompassing the engine room. My analysis extended to understanding the pontoon connection and its implications on the mechanical circulation, as well as the mechanics behind the spud’s operation for vessel movement.

The commencement of this project involved a systematic approach, beginning with the meticulous selection of materials to be utilized in the construction of the vessel. This process included determining the appropriate sizes for the steel sheets and angles to ensure optimal structural integrity, capable of withstanding the significant pressures that the vessel will inevitably encounter.

Following this, a comprehensive examination of the vessel’s general layout was undertaken, taking into consideration not only its point of construction but also the logistics required for its eventual transportation across land.

This holistic approach was crucial to the project’s success and efficient execution.

Abdoun Pearl | Amman - Jordan Completed by • Maisam Architects & Engineers Co. In the last decade , different retails options have been spreading in Amman with several new mall and organised retail projects that are providing an alternative to the traditional shopping centers of he capitol.

Abdoun Projects will introduce a new retail pproach that represents a paradigm shift towards inclusivity and sustainability. They will be unique spaces that provide a life-style center (with opportunities for family recreation, health, development, sports, entertainment, and shopping) for all residents of the city in an atmosphere of pleasure and comfort.

The mix of different functions within the projects (residence, office and retail), will enable people to live, work and play within the Abdoun Developments.

In this particular design, we pursued a specific goal that influenced our massing, facade design, and spatial plans. The placement of the podium/ mall structure around the central plaza was integral in creating an open and skyward view. This design prioritized providing residents, whether in offices or the hotel, with a scenic vista for their morning coffee on the balcony.

The hotel floor plans were thoughtfully organized, with clear divisions into 1, 2, 3, 4, and presidential suites, each featuring its own balcony. Emphasis was placed on the bedrooms to ensure they captured the beautiful view.

Refurbishment | Coffee House Completed for Freelance Saed Kanaan Project A coffee house designed to be a gathering point between the cultural heritage of Palestine and the contemporaty design it aspires to reach.

The concept of this design revolves around materials that won’t prevent customers from interacting with the outside, such as Expanded Metal.

Elements have been designed to assist the delicate structure to fiit nicely with the overall vision of the project. All interiors were connected to create different experiences. The indoor main seating area on the First Floor has a double volume, connecting customers with the facade’s design and outdoor views.

Being able to contain the structure of the curtain walls behind the expanded metal will associate to the indoor experience of moveability and freedom that it needs for the user to be comfortable in all places.

Expanded Metal is used in the recovering of existing buildings or applied in the new ones, adapting the designed building giving it a new “light”, a new “skin” and a new “vitality”.

The structure should appear light, natrual and with seamless movement.

The proposed mechanism aims to be part of the interior atmosphere and materials. It’ should be delicate and sophisticated.

A communicative Facade, that projects the importance of adapting to what we built and what we want to build. The purpose of the dynamic movement that is added to the expanded metal is to endorse the surrounding from the inside and the outside.

A swimming shore project comprises various essential components, including groynes, beach berm, beach slope, and the swimming shore itself. Throughout this project, I gained a comprehensive understanding of the distinct layers and intricacies associated with each of these elements and successfully incorporated them into the project’s drawings.

The development of a sports beach necessitated the creation of various beach elements, each serving a specific function. These included the meticulous rendering of lifeguard seats, pergolas, beach umbrellas, and designated seating areas.

Project Altitude | Saudi Arabia

Completed by Kamash Architects This multifaceted environmental conservation plan addresses Juniper Forest Rehabilitation, the revival of abandoned agricultural terraces, overgrazing control through local involvement, and effective wildlife management. These measures encompass native species reforestation, reduced human access, and comprehensive management. Activation of terraces not only preserves the landscape but also generates local employment to mitigate ecological damage. Moreover, responsible waste disposal and strategic interventions aim to manage wildlife, including baboons, and protect populated areas from disturbance.

The historical significance of Mecca, touching upon religion, politics, and the economy, has left an indelible mark on the architectural landscape of the Northern region of Altitude. This influence extends to the vernacular structures, which bear the imprints of Mecca’s rich heritage.

Archaeological remnants, including stone-paved paths and palaces resulting from past events, offer valuable insights into the architectural character that harmonizes with this region. Meanwhile, Taif stands as a vibrant urban center, celebrated for its cultural activities, distinctive agricultural output, and an eclectic blend of colonial-style architecture.

In the Northern region, an urban dominance is palpable, evident in the low-rise, closely clustered vernacular structures. Conversely, the Taif escarpment serves as an idyllic retreat from the urban hustle and bustle, providing a serene connection to nature and offering the best of both northern and southern influences.

The southern region takes on a predominantly agricultural identity, mirroring its agricultural produce and characterized by dispersed agricultural towers that define its unique architectural landscape.

Al-a’maq Mount Lebanon is a defining landscape feature of the subregion of Al-a’maq, characterized by its unique reddish stone.

In order to protect it from urban encroachment and insensitive construction activities, expanding the reforestation at the foothills can act as a green buffer. This preserves both the mountain and the boundary of the proposed development.

South AL-Shafa Granite boulders are the predominant rock formations in the region, the granite boulders create what looks like a natural geological gallery.

Wadi Afar As the lead designer of this project, my vision was to create a luxurious hotel experience that maximized the breathtaking views. Upon arriving at the hotel, guests are welcomed with meticulously planned small alleys that lead to spectacular, unobstructed vistas. Nestled amid lush agricultural areas, the hotel’s central spa concept seamlessly integrates with the surrounding natural beauty.

Soudah | Saudi Arabia Completed by Kamash Architects I played a pivotal role in the Soudah guidelines by transforming their principles into user-friendly diagrams, simplifying their implementation. These guidelines have a threefold focus: the first being the restoration of the landscape through eco-conscious construction, which minimizes environmental impact and safeguards biodiversity. The second emphasizes the preservation of cultural value by incorporating Asiri architectural elements and respecting the local logic. Lastly, the guidelines aim to spur community growth through the creation of Small-to-Medium Enterprises (SMEs), tourism, and hospitality developments, thereby offering the Soudah community an opportunity to thrive.

These principles are intrinsically linked to the region’s ecological and cultural heritage.

Our design concept revolves around a deep reverence for nature. It places paramount importance on the preservation of existing vegetation, recognizing the role of tree clusters as natural buffers between structures. Moreover, we embrace the integration of natural rock formations into our architectural designs.

This commitment to incorporating nature’s elements in our design decisions allows for a more intricate and authentic interpretation of Soudah.

It centers on maximizing the landscape’s capacity while safeguarding its inherent authenticity, creating a profound sense of place and belonging.

Through our architecture, we extend an open invitation to users, signifying a harmonious coexistence of culture and nature on this land.

This concept embodies the essence of our design philosophy.

Mosque | Saudi Arabia Completed by Badran Design Studio

Mosques have always been conceived as places of spirituality and community. From the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), mosques have served as congregational places of worship, education, and social interaction. The spaces in the design are simple and form a sense of community of their own, establishing synergy between the designed facilities and the community.

The purpose of the formation of spaces within the site is to join them together in an organized way yet still have individual privacies. The mosque plays a revitalizing role in being a connector between sacred and communal spaces around the nearby Muslim community, causing the formation of an Islamic hub.

The placement of the internal Sikka is shown within the site to emphasize the importance of the connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces which made the mosque more accessible from the surroundings, plaza is in the northwestern part of the site generating a public space and gathering area, therefore, having an outdoor praying area in the southeast side.

As you can see that the prayer hall can be shown rotated based on the Qibla direction.

Nevertheless the importance of transparency is shown within the project by adding a holistic sense inside the prayer hall and a welcoming environment from the outside with

the hierarchy of the masses within the mosque. The minaret is seen as a landmark in the surrounding context and seen from the distance of both the main street axis as well as the nearby community.

But the difficulty in this project was between creating the right circulation for each function. We had the mortuary playing a challenging card for its own corpse movement.

As you can see the exposure of the women’s entrance from the neighborhood was meant to play a welcoming yet grand gesture for the female prayers in the neighborhood, which leads them to their praying hall on the second floor.

Mixed-use Neighborhood Urban Plan | Medina al Munawara - Saudi Arabia Completed by Badran Design Studio

Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah attracts millions of worshipers and pilgrims yearly, all hoping to catch a glimpse of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)’s grace, keeping in mind that he is also buried there. With no care for any social classes, these worshipers come from different cultures on a spiritual journey to find harmony with their Muslim brothers and sisters.

Between Al Masjid an-Nabawi and the train line coming from Mecca, the location finds its importance to be the transferral buffer zone yet a welcoming one. Hence, Dr. Rasem Badran wanted to fashion a cultural neighborhood with a design that delivers worshipers’ spiritual synergy & cultural dissimilarity; he constructed this MasterPlan and gave that synergy its significance.

Prototypes repetitively layed on the MasterPlan to generate a pedestrian root with an urban experience similar to the local heritage methodology, which finds itself strange to the urban layouts of nowadays. These prototypes are designed to serve the following purposes: Firstly: Obtaining courtyards that are connected to the pedestrian roots in the MasterPlan, with a clear circulation.These courtyards will be the core of the cultural plazas in these buildings, each plaza will present different culture on its own.

Secondly: Lobbies that are surrounded by retail shops covering the ground façade.

Third: 3-4 stars hotels with a clustered design that will give the neighborhood a dynamic skyline.

Massive pedestrian traffic will be expected to find welcoming and clear circulation roots.

Addressing two types of worshipers, one that will be finding this realm as a waiting area for their vehicle transportation to Al Masjid an-Nabawi, and residences of this neighborhood that will find it as an entertaining zone in their free time.

As the tail and the head of the Public Realm, this pedestrian bridge will connect the worshipers to their hotels.

Central Mosque: Al-Masjid an-Nabawi is 4 KM away from the neighborhood.

Therefore, this mosque will serve residents, workers, and worshipers that cannot attend their prayers at all times in the Al-Masjid anNabawi.

Rumman Farmhouse | Tal Al Rumman Completed by Greenwood Barton Architects Three pavilion-like bedrooms face different parts of the site, the master which faces the forest has rooftop sleeping. Narrow spaces between the bedrooms join up to form a private courtyard and protect the interiors from the afternoon sun. The main living and entertaining spaces are provided in two loftier structures, organised over two levels with a shared roof.

Bedrooms were treated as sanctuaries in this project, this made the bathroom’s design special with a new and different experience. Having outdoor showers were a favorite for the clients, because of the connection they already have with the site, no doors were added between the bedroom and the bathroom, but yet provided privacy in a glass room for the toilets. The view of the outdoor shower will be seen and framed with marble made sink with a mirror hanging on top of it.
