BEST IN SHOW

Every summer, we roll out the red carpet. Not for celebrities, but for the standout stars of our community. This month, we put a heartfelt spotlight on the local businesses that consistently go above and beyond. Welcome to our annual Best of the Gold Coast issue.

This list isn’t curated by editors in a quiet conference room. It’s shaped by thousands of votes from readers like you, who know exactly where to get the best burger, who to call for flawless home design or where to find that perfect last-minute gift. These winners represent real favorites—the places you recommend without hesitation, the names you rely on time and again.

The result is a vibrant snapshot of our region’s most trusted and treasured businesses. Some are beloved staples that have served the community for years. Others are new additions, quickly earning loyal

followings and local buzz. What they all share is a commitment to quality, creativity and connection.

In these pages, we also include those who garnered the most votes right here at home (Best of Greenwich, page 82). We’re lucky to live in a town filled with talent and entrepreneurial spirit, and we’re proud to honor those who help shape its character.

We consider this issue a reminder of the power of local. The businesses we feature aren’t just winners. They are neighbors, innovators and dreamers who keep our towns humming with life.

So, dive in, take notes and get inspired. You may discover a new favorite—or be reminded why you love an old one.

“Oh, I never would’ve called the police if I’d known it was Charlie,” she said.”

OF DOG DAYS & A DOG

The idea of the “dog days” of August started with the Romans blaming Sirius, the brightest star in Canis Major (large dog), for hot, sticky weather and sacrificing a brown dog to appease it. Silly Romans.

For a July issue long ago, we did a story with Dick Cryer and his Golden Retriever on the cover. Our distributor said it would never sell. Something about dogs felt sweaty in the summer. But it sold big time. Silly man.

Anyway, my first dog was Charlie—formally, Penny’s Pride of Riverside—who grew to be a big handsome dark-red fellow with a huge head and chest.

We got him from Torchie Flinn, a nationally known breeder, who taught my duck-hunting husband how to make him a proper retriever. First, at her house by the reservoir, she lined up some old Goldens for an audience. Then, into the water she tossed a mallard, whose wings were tied down, and sent a young bitch to bring it to hand. When Charlie’s turn came, he dashed in, got pecked on the nose and backed away, barking. So, Torchie sent the female in again until Charlie, properly humbled, did it right.

He became a brilliant hunting dog.

Charlie was popular with people of all sizes. We had to put a hook-and-eye on the nursery door, because three-year-old Jonathan would climb out of bed at night to take his dog for a walk. One morning, the pair took off again, and we had neighbors on bikes shouting their names until our son appeared sobbing. “I was lost in the ferns!” Charlie could hear us calling but had never left his little master’s side.

Charlie was a lifeguard. When we swam off Willowmere dock, he’d jump into the water, put his big paws on our shoulders and push us back to shore. Once, he swam so far after our Sunfish that we had to pull the 90-pound dog into the cockpit. No easy feat.

Charlie was a therapist. Our Down Syndrome

nephew visiting from Cleveland was terrified of dogs but ended up kissing him goodbye— on the lips. We had to explain that a good ear scratch was an ample show of affection.

Charlie was a mother of sorts. He’d gently carry our kittens around in his mouth until they grew too heavy to hold.

Charlie could be mischievous. While the Burkes were away, they had a house fire. We took some of the kids and the sitter to our house, where a fireman interviewed her, leaving his boots on the doorstep. Except when he left, he found only one. Charlie had hidden the other in the bushes.

Then came the day I was sick in bed and got a call from the Greenwich Pound to come pick up my dog, who had been reported running through Ida Brace’s garden. Furious, I retrieved my Retriever and then called her. “Ida, if you ever have my dog arrested again, you’ll never be invited to another party at our house!” (She loved parties.) “Oh, I never would’ve called the police if I’d known it was Charlie,” she said. Within hours, McArdle’s delivered a huge bunch of gladiolas.

But Charlie was a hero, too. One night, we were robbed while Jack and I were on vacation. Unwittingly, the burglars had let Charlie out, and he barked on Bunny Nadel’s kitchen stoop next door until she put on a bathrobe and followed him home. The sitter found them standing at the front door, while the crooks escaped out the back.

In the Sixties, there were very few Goldens in town. Now there are many—rarely trained to be working dogs, which they love—plus lots of designer dogs like Pugles, Cockapoos, Schnoodles, Chorkies and Pomskys. Even Goldendoodles. Hmmm.

In any case, our Charlie had it all. We just called him Charlie, but Jack’s mother called him “a noble beast.” G

MASTER OF MYSTERY

LOCAL AUTHOR TO RELEASE THIRD BOOK IN CRIME FICTION SERIES THIS SUMMER, COINCIDING WITH BIG TV NEWS

Elise Hart Kipness, a Stamford-local, spent the first part of her professional career as a television sports reporter who thrived on the high-energy, pressure-packed and unpredictable world of professional athletics. Taking a hiatus from her travel-heavy schedule after having children, Kipness never imagined that she’d one day find herself a best-selling author. Missing her days of reporting, she gravitated toward writing and took classes that eventually led to her first novel, Lights Out.

“I should have a PhD for all of the time that I put into learning, maybe two,” Elise jokes. Showcasing her manuscript at a “pitch fest,” which she explains is “essentially speed dating with agents,” she was able to secure a literary manager, and from there, things took off. Elise based her series on a combination of reallife experiences, both on and off the field, and used her knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes of sportscasting to create stories with an inside view. Each story is told through the lens of

Kate Green, a women’s sports reporter, and gives the reader a tangible feel of everything from what it’s like to be inside a locker room to navigating interpersonal relationships with players and coaches. She uses her passion for riveting plot twists to keep her readers on their toes in new and shocking ways in each of her books.

When thinking about the ideal setting for Lights Out, which features an NBA player who was murdered in his mansion, Greenwich was the first choice for Elise. “I wanted to write about somewhere close that I knew well and could continue to explore. Greenwich is just such an interesting and charming place—between the town and the backcountry with all the mansions. You can see an NBA player living here. I really wanted to dig through any preconceived notions and focus on nuance to discover all the layers that exist in town,” she says.

When asked what we can expect from Close Call (out August 19), Elise revealed that the story is centered around a kidnapping at the

US Open, which was one of her favorite events to cover back in the day. “It’s very electric, not just a sporting event. It’s a scene with a lot of glamour, high-society attendees and super fans. This is the first sport I’m writing about that’s a one-player event as opposed to a team sport. (Dangerous Play focused on Women’s Olympic Soccer.)

A single elimination game raises the stakes and it’s been really fun to dive back into something I enjoyed reporting on.”

Kate Green and her adventures were recently optioned by Universal Television and Mary J. Blige’s Blue Butterfly production company to be turned into a TV series executive-produced by Debra Martin Chase (CBS’ The Equalizer) and Liz Friedlander (ABC’s The Rookie), who is also directing. We can’t wait to see who plays Kate Green.

Elise will be speaking locally at the Harry Bennett Library in Stamford on Tuesday, September 16, at 5:30 p.m. fergusonlibrary.org

A LIFE SAVING LEGACY

HOW A GREENWICH FAMILY TRANSFORMED UNIMAGINABLE LOSS INTO A FOUNDATION THAT TEACHES KIDS TO STAY SAFE IN AND AROUND WATER

In July 2007, Karen and Brian Cohn’s worlds forever changed when their six-year-old son, Zachary, drowned in a pool drain entrapment in their backyard swimming pool.

From the depths of their despair, the couple knew they had to do something to honor their son while exploring ways to keep their other three children safe. As they began to study water safety, they soon realized they had the ability to make a difference in the lives of others. A year later, they created the ZAC Foundation to prepare children and families for a lifetime of safety around water. The organization funds education and programming about water safety and also works to strengthen pool-safety legislation.

“Zachary was such a great swimmer. We never knew about drain entrapment [when the suction power of the drain traps a person underwater]. As a parent, you want to do everything you can to protect your kids,” says Karen. “Zachary’s memory is the inspiration for everything we do at the foundation. I work for him.”

Drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death for children younger than four and the second cause of unintentional death for children younger than 14. “We knew if we could just keep one child from drowning and one parent from going through what we did, we will have done our job,” says Karen. “We also understand that drowning is preventable

with the right information and training.”

But how to get the word out? They began at school systems, offering assemblies on water safety. After a few no’s, they pitched the idea of a camp to the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich, an organization that was familiar with Zachary’s tragedy. The couple agreed to run a pilot program of the first ZAC Camp, an endeavor so successful it began to spread. The Zac Foundation has now hosted 150 camps at more than 50 Boys & Girls

Clubs across 28 states, kick-starting water safety skills to more than 20,000 children.

Megan Ferraro, who began working with the Cohns, first as a consultant and now as executive director of the foundation, explains that each Boys & Girls Club camp site receives a monetary grant from the foundation to offset all costs. In addition, each camper receives a copy of the ZAC Foundation’s children’s book, The Polar Bear Who Couldn’t, Wouldn’t Swim, a tote bag, lanyards, T-shirts, wristbands and swim caps, if needed.

Ferraro explains that camp days are divided into three stations: in-water swim lessons, classroom activities and meet-and-greets with local first responders. ZAC Foundation staff lead the camps.

Boys & Girls Clubs reach many children in urban areas, some of whom are afraid of first responders. “Many of them have had bad experiences, because the situation was an emergency,” Karen explains. “By bringing the first responders into the camp, they can experience positive interactions in a non-emergency situation.”

The campers learn not only about pool safety, but safety around any body of water, including rivers, ponds and canals. The foundation also involves local media in order to spread the message of water safety to the community.

“With the camps running smoothly, we

wanted to do more, and began working with communities to develop prevention action plans,” Karen explains.

One example is their partnership with the Ben Carlson Memorial & Scholarship Foundation in Newport Beach, California, which promotes beach and ocean safety and higher education for lifeguards. Together, they created the California Water Safety Coalition to fill a leadership gap in the state’s water safety sector and lead statewide strategy in the development, implementation and evaluation of water safety policy and education programs.

As the foundation has grown, Karen now finds herself traveling throughout the United States, participating in conferences, including the National Water Safety Conference and the California Water Safety Summit. Additionally, she was one of a handful of Americans who spoke at the World Conference on Drowning Prevention in Australia.

“We will never stop,” she adds. “There is still so much to be done. This work provides so much healing for me. When you lose a child, it becomes part of your life story that stays with you forever. Through this work, I am raising Zachary without physically raising him.”

ARE DROWNINGS PREVENTABLE?

Drowning is silent and 100-percent preventable, according to the ZAC Foundation, which emphasizes the A, B, C and Ds of drowning prevention.

A: ADULT SUPERVISION

WHAT IS POOL AND SPA DRAIN ENTRAPMENT?

Drains are one of the most dangerous components of a pool or spa. Entrapment occurs when a person is trapped by the suction power of the drain, which is equivalent to hundreds of pounds of force (300 pounds per square inch). Such force is too strong for a child or even an adult to escape.

President George W. Bush signed the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act in 2007, requiring pools and spas to have antientrapment drain covers, which are dome shaped instead of the old flat shape. Since the law went into effect, there have been no reported fatalities involving a child being entrapped on a suction outlet cover in a public pool or spa. The legislation was passed soon after Zachary Cohn’s July 2007 death in the backyard pool.

Karen Cohn says that pool service companies know the correct type of drain covers, but if the pool is serviced by the homeowner, there might be some older, dangerous models still in use. It is also important to know that the new drain covers come with expiration dates.

Always have an adult present with children around any body of water. Always keep your eyes on children with zero distractions from cell phones, chores or other disturbances. Have a phone nearby, and be sure everyone knows how to call 911. Karen suggests that when hosting a home pool party, either hire a lifeguard or set up shifts of 15 minutes with adults so there is always someone watching the children and teens.

B: BARRIERS

Install a regularly inspected fence with a lock and key that goes around your pool. Keep the key out of reach of children. Install an alarm that beeps if doors or windows to the pool are open, and one that goes off when the surface of the water is disrupted by movement. Teach children not to enter a pool area until an adult has opened the pool gate.

C: CLASSES

Families should take safety classes, including swimming and water safety for children and CPR and First Aid for adults. You can also hold safety lessons at home for the family.

D: DRAINS AND DEVICES

Teach all swimmers to stay away from all pool and spa drains. Wear a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket if you’re on open water.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO WHEN YOU SEE SOMEONE DROWNING?

If there’s a lifeguard on duty, alert them immediately.

Only enter the water if you have the strength and skill to do so, as attempting a rescue can put you in danger of drowning.

If the person is conscious, throw a life ring, rope or other flotation device to assist them.

When pulling a near-drowning victim from the water, immediately call 911, and begin CPR, if necessary.

The ease of booking (a text option reduces reservation time to 60 seconds), hours that never expire, payment only for hours flown, fewer peak and blackout dates than competitors and more destinations were other reasons cited for rocketing Sentient Jet to the top.

Sentient Jet Card owners have access to an Exclusive Benefits Guide with a curated collection of experiences and partnership savings (up to $230,000) to enjoy. The 2025 edition offers ten new

SACRED HEART GREENWICH STUDENTS DOCUMENT THE TRANSFORMATIONAL WORK OF IMPACT FAIRFIELD COUNTY GRANTEES— 17 NONPROFITS, $2.1 MILLION, 10 YEARS by valerie

Impact Fairfield County is celebrating 10 years of granting significant philanthropic investments to local nonprofits. Annika Kennon, copresident of Impact FFC, explains that the organization felt the best way to honor the past decade was to tell the stories of the 17 Fairfield County nonprofits that have received top grants.

BUT HOW TO GET THE WORD OUT?

The answer came when Impact FFC’s events chair, Pam Arakel, started talking about her daughter Natasha’s Advanced Real-World Filmmaking course at Sacred Heart Greenwich. She suggested they might be interested in tackling a film project to tell the stories of the nonprofits. Teacher Ellyn Stewart was contacted and brought it to the class for a vote, and all 17 students agreed this would make an amazing project that would broaden their reach,

which until then had been mostly centered in the Greenwich area.

“I assumed the girls would work independently on each project–17 girls, 17 projects—but they told me they like to work collaboratively,” Ellyn says.

One of the films that sophomore Madeline Beaudry worked on highlighted nOURish Bridgeport, which provides groceries, formula, diapers and hot meals to thousands of neighborhood residents. Impact FFC’s $100,000 grant in 2022 was used to expand nOURish Bridegport’s Indoor Hydroponic Urban Farm, which was the focus of the film and one that made a lasting impression on Madeline, who hopes one day to work in the film industry.

Madeline gets so excited when she talks about the work that went into producing the film— from the research to developing the questions for Rev. Sara Smith, CEO/president of the nonprofit. She called the day of filming hectic, but credits Rev. Smith’s enthusiasm with creating a contagious spirit that made the whole experience immensely enjoyable.

“It was really empowering, once the film was complete, to know you helped create a story about a nonprofit that others will get to see,” Madeline says. “Rev. Smith was so inspiring that I am planning on volunteering at the farm.”

Ellyn

Stewart,

Ellyn says that one of the big takeaways from this project was the power of individual stories. “The students also learned that the story needs to be clear and compelling and that there has to be a consistent message,” she says. “For example, in some of the original films, it didn’t mention what the grant was for or how it would be used. Impact FFC told us that every person who watches these films needs to walk away understanding what the grant was and how it was being used.”

“The work of the students was all free. It aligned with their curriculum and what Impact FFC needed,” says Annika. “The project was real-world filmmaking with social-impact connections. We were so impressed with these girls and what they were able to create for us. We couldn’t be more pleased with the results.”

Ellyn notes that this project also expanded the class’s knowledge about the needs of other areas and nonprofits throughout Fairfield County while introducing them to Impact FFC’s model of collective giving.

When Wendy Block and Vicki Craver created the nonprofit in 2015, the goal was to gather at least 100 women in the area to pool their contributions that would

make significant philanthropic investments in local nonprofits. Over the past decade, Annika says the group has provided more than $2.1 million in grant funding to local nonprofits, including 16 top $100,000 grants, one special five-year anniversary grant of $50,000 and 23 grants ranging from $7,500 to $30,000. All are transformational awards that have greatly improved the lives of people and the workings of the nonprofits.

Annika explains there is another side to Impact FFC—developing a community for women to learn about local needs, discover nonprofits they might not have known about and learn how those nonprofits are meeting the needs of communities. THRIVING, NOT JUST SURVIVING

HOW ONE FAIRFIELD COUNTY WOMAN TURNED CHRONIC ILLNESS

INTO A HOLISTIC MISSION by georgette yacoub

Pamela Byrne had just returned to her Darien home from another late-day doctor’s appointment in Manhattan. After walking through the door, she went straight for her familiar comforts: red wine and a brownie. But her hands, stiff and inflamed from undiagnosed autoimmune disease, wouldn’t cooperate.

Pam’s health had been unraveling for years. First, it was overwhelming fatigue and low mood levels; then later, it was things like the complete loss of her menstrual cycle. “At first, I blamed it on stress, winter, little kids—but something felt really off,” she says.

Her intuition was right. Over the next two and a half years, Pam received diagnoses for a laundry list of diseases—celiac disease, premature ovarian failure, scleroderma. “But not one doctor ever asked what I was eating,” she says. “Not even at the Mayo Clinic.”

That was Pam’s turning point, and she started by making small changes to her diet. “I already couldn’t eat gluten, but I was still living on processed junk food,” she says. So I started cooking, drastically reducing my sugar intake, eating real meals, adding more vegetables and focusing on protein.”

By 2014, she says she started eating vegetables “like it was my job,” and enrolled in a nutrition program to deepen her knowledge. In 2016, she went off all her medications—and hasn’t gone back since.

Today, Pam is the founder of Byrne Health & Wellness, where she supports women across the country, including those

navigating perimenopause and hormonal imbalance. “Everybody’s goals differ,” she says. “But basically people just want to be happier about not only how they feel in their own skin, but about their day-to-day habits.”

Her approach is rooted in simplicity and sustainability.

“Slow and steady wins the race,” she says. She starts clients off with the basics: drinking enough water, sitting down for three balanced meals, improving sleep.

“Something as simple as drinking half your body weight in ounces of water can be life-changing. It reduces hunger, sugar cravings, constipation—just from hydration.”

Pam also uses continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) with many clients to show how their bodies respond to food. “We’ll look at a lunch that seems totally healthy—tuna with vegetables and Ezekiel bread—and it’s spiking blood sugar for two hours. Or someone drinking coffee on an empty stomach and they have no idea it’s triggering a cortisol response.”

Her work is bio-individual, meaning it’s tailored to the person, and rooted in helping clients replace guilt and confusion with clarity. “It depends on where they are in their journey and how much

food noise they have,” she says. “For some, we take out the sweet treats entirely for a few weeks to create a safe environment. For others, it’s about planning those moments—making it part of a balanced meal, enjoying it without guilt and moving on.”

Her advice is especially resonant in communities like those in lower Fairfield County, where pressure to be productive often overrides self-care. “It’s human nature to want to comfort

ourselves,” she says. “Food is legal, it’s easy, it’s there. But when we find other practices that soothe us, that’s when real health happens.”

Pam is clear-eyed about the work it takes to make lasting change—but also deeply hopeful.

“It doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy, but we can always create change,” she says. “But when you feel good, there’s nothing better— the wine, the sweets, they just don’t have the same pull anymore.”

ONE OF THE BIGGEST EVENTS IN TENNIS IS COMING AND WE CAN’T WAIT

Avid tennis players and casual fans agree that the US Open is electric. A lot goes into putting on the tennis event of the year, so we caught up with two in-the-know Greenwich residents. Eric Butorac, Senior Director of USTA Player Relations and Business Development, and Elizabeth Schrohe, Player Relations and Business Development, were excited to share their thoughts on how to do the US Open right.

KIDS IN TOW

Think Fan Week. You get the full feel of the US Open experience, and it’s totally free. If you’re considering bringing kids, this is the best time to go. The vibe is relaxed, and you can take plenty of close-up player pictures and get autographs.

FAMILY TIME

New this year is the exciting Mixed Doubles Championships on Tuesday, August 19, and Wednesday the 20th. This will be a reimagined and elevated mixed doubles format, featuring a million-dollar prize. Early-round matches on Tuesday in Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong stadiums will be top-notch and a less- expensive way to enjoy a day at the Open.

THE TENNIS JUNKIE

Buy tickets to any of the early-round day sessions. Look for upper-level seats in Ashe or Armstrong stadiums (insurance in case it rains). Plan to be at the gates when they open at 10 a.m. The first hour after gates open is the ideal window to catch the players practicing. The best deal of the US Open is the daily grounds passes (limited availability). With a grounds pass, you can access the general admission section in Louis Armstrong, spend the day watching matches on the outdoor courts and watch Arthur Ashe matches on the giant screens outside the stadium.

DATE NIGHT—OR DAY

Wrap up summer with a date night—or day— over Labor Day weekend. Savor some of the hottest NYC restaurant spots at the stands and cafés. Sample Coqadoc’s chicken nuggets with caviar, and wash it down with the Open’s signature drink, the Honey Deuce. Cap off your special outing with something from the onsite Ralph Lauren shop that features commemorative US Open apparel. For an added touch, RL offers customization.

U.S. OPEN VISIT

Plan Ahead for Travel

• Build in extra time for traffic and parking.

• Avoid arriving right at match start times (11 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.).

Avoid Peak Entry Times

Give yourself time to park, go through security, shop, snack and get to your seat.

Check Out

The Mets Schedule

• Traffic and parking are much worse on Mets home-game days.

• There is no US Open parking in the Mets lot when there's a game.

PREP FOR WEATHER

Bring a hat, sunscreen and a paper fan.

Stay cool at the air-conditioned Amex Fan Experience

Explore the Shops

• Save time to browse for official gear and souvenirs.

Download the US Open App

• Get maps, live match updates and event info at your fingertips.

Expert Tip

Before you go, print out the day’s Order of Play to plan your day, allowing room to adjust. You never know when you might catch one of those epic five-set matches.

right: The celebs are always out in full force at the Open. Last year, lucky spectators caught a glimpse of Taylor and Travis.

THE WOW FACTOR

Consider booking a once-in-alifetime experience. The US Open features a number of custom opportunities to make memories that will last forever.

Consider the Play Like a Pro experience. Spend the day just like a professional player during Finals Weekend. Get picked up by the Player Car Service and have breakfast in the Player Dining Area. Next, spend two hours hitting balls with the likes of Andre Agassi, Andy Roddick, Lindsay Davenport or other legends. Finally, enjoy a Player Only Shopping Experience before you shower and arrive in your suite to watch the match of the day.

Another new offering is Hit on Ashe. Yes, you can hit on the storied court! Your Player Service Car will drop you off at the Player Entrance, and you’ll be ushered in for a tour and walk the Player Hallway—that seminal place where we watch our favorite players being interviewed as they walk out to the court.

You will then enter tennis’s biggest stage—Arthur Ashe Stadium. For an hour, you’ll hit with a pro, soak in the atmosphere and, of course, leave with amazing photos—all followed by a shower and lunch in a premium hospitality space before watching tennis’s top stars from a courtside seat.

NOTE:

These experiences are one of a kind and prices vary based on time, date and specific requests. Contact US Open hospitality to design a bespoke package.

ERIC AND ELIZABETH’S FAVORITE SPOTS

Where to Watch

ERIC: The top of Court Five

ELIZABETH: Practice Courts 1–5, where players warm up

Dine & Drink

ERIC: The Fuko spicy chicken sandwich

ELIZABETH: The Aperol Spritz seating area by Court 5 (after work, of course)

Best Day

ERIC: Thursday of the final round of qualifying

ELIZABETH: Monday of Labor Day weekend ( you can still get up-close to matches on the non-stadium courts)

A SPECIAL CELEBRATION

For that big birthday blowout or anniversary celebration, plan a grand slam victory by booking a luxury suite. You and 20 of your friends will enjoy special parking passes, prime views and a chef-curated menu. Take the celebration to the next level by including a VIP appearance, featuring top athletes, legendary stars and renowned coaches. From corporate suites to special-occasion bookings, visit US Open hospitality online for an array of ideas and options. hospitality. usopen.org

THE COTTAGE

Chef Brian Lewis brings serious culinary chops to the table, and we’re always lucky to score a seat. At The Cottage, he’s serving food that feels both familiar and totally fresh, like he’s taken your favorite dish turned it inside out, and made it way better. The cult-favorite steamed buns are a must, but it’s often the quiet dishes, like a seasonal vegetable small plate or a simple pasta, that steal the show.

If you know, you know —and if you don’t, well, consider this your cheat sheet. Our food scene has leveled up, and this year’s winners prove it.

Get ready to discover (or rediscover) the very best that our towns have to offer, according to the people who actually eat here.

If you can snag a reservation, bring a group and game-plan the menu like it’s a team sport. Casa Me—"my house," for those brushing up on their Italian—is all about passing plates, pouring another glass and pretending you’re on vacation somewhere along the Amalfi Coast. Cin cin!

VAN LEEUWEN

Here’s the scoop: Honeycomb, Earl Grey Tea and Sicilian Pistachio are fan favorites for good reason, but don’t sleep on the vegan options, like Strawberry Shortcake and Cookies & Cream Caramel Swirl. Add in their ever-rotating lineup of collabs, and it’s no wonder people line up for a scoop. Or two. Or a whole pint.

BEST breakfast // THE GRANOLA BAR

The Granola Bar is what happens when a breakfast spot decides it doesn’t have to choose between healthy and indulgent, and wins at both. It’s the kind of place where you can start your day with a turmeric latte, a breakfast burrito the size of your face or a parfait so good it has its own following (looking at you, Crunchy Elvis).

BEST bakery // FLOUR WATER SALT BREAD

Early mornings in Darien, Greenwich and now New Canaan, you’ll find locals queued up before the doors even open, eager to secure a loaf of Rob VanKeuren’s legendary sourdough. But getting to that bread is only half the battle. Once inside, you have to make it to checkout without giving in to the temptation from the cases stacked with flaky croissants, pillowy bomboloni or colossal coffee cake, and wanting one of everything.

BEST margaritas // BARTACO

No shortcuts here; every margarita is made with freshly squeezed juice and hand-selected spirits, creating a drink that’s perfectly balanced, never fussy. It's not overly sweet, just solid, whether you’re keeping it classic, seeking something spicy or trying one of their seasonal specials. And when you’re sipping on the patio by the Saugatuck, with that salty rim and the cool water views, there is nothing better.

TOP DENTISTS OF FAIRFIELD COUNTY 2025

Scan here to view our digital TOP DENTISTS LISTING!

Whether you need a simple check-up or dental surgery, selecting the right dentist is an important decision to make. Fairfield County has a wealth of leading practitioners, so we’ve streamlined the process by creating our 2025 Top Dentists Guide. To assemble the annual list we relied on the experts at topDentists™, who have more than seventy years in combined experience compiling peer review referral guides in the legal, dental and medical fields. The company recognizes elite dentists chosen by other dental professionals through a comprehensive selection process. With more than 200 local practitioners at the top of their field, our directory can help you find the right dentist in whatever specialty you need. »

Top Dentists

The Process Behind the List

To create our Top Dentists directory, we utilized the experts at topDentists™, which has more than seventy years in combined experience compiling peer-review referral guides in the legal, dental and medical fields. The research company, which started topDentists in 2007, uses a thorough selection process to recognize dentists who are chosen by other dental professionals.

INTRODUCTION

This list is excerpted from the 2025 topDentists™ list, a database that includes listings of more than 210 dentists and specialists in the Fairfield County area. The list is based on thousands of detailed evaluations of dental professionals by their peers. The complete database is available at usatopdentists.com. For more information, call 706-364-0853; write P.O. Box 970, Augusta, GA 30903 or visit usatopdentists.com.

SELECTION PROCESS

“If you had a patient in need of a dentist, which dentist would you refer them to?”

This is the question we’ve asked thousands of dentists to help us determine who the topDentists should be. Dentists and specialists are asked to take into consideration years of experience, continuing education, manner with patients, use of new techniques and technologies and of course physical results.

The nomination pool of dentists consists of all dentists listed online with the American Dental Association as well as dentists listed online with their local dental societies, thus allowing virtually every dentist the opportunity to participate. Dentists are also given the opportunity to nominate other dentists that they feel should be included in our list. Respondents are asked to put aside any personal bias or political motivations and to use only their knowledge of their peer’s work when evaluating the other nominees.

Voters are asked to individually evaluate the practitioners on their ballot whose work they are familiar with. Once the balloting is completed, the scores are compiled and then averaged. The numerical average required for inclusion varies depending on the average for all the nominees within the specialty and the geographic area. Borderline cases are given a careful consideration by the editors. Voting characteristics and comments are taken into consideration while making decisions. Past awards a dentist has received and status in various dental academies can play a factor in our decision.

Once the decisions have been finalized, the included dentists are checked against state dental boards for disciplinary actions to make sure they have an active license and are in good standing with the board. Then letters of congratulations are sent to all the listed dentists.

Of course, there are many fine dentists who are not included in this representative list. It is intended as a sampling of the great body of talent in the field of dentistry in the United States. A dentist’s inclusion on our list is based on the subjective judgments of his or her fellow dentists. While it is true that the lists may at times disproportionately reward visibility or popularity, we remain confident that our polling methodology largely corrects for any biases and that these lists continue to represent the most reliable, accurate, and useful list of dentists available anywhere

TRAYNOR PERIODONTICS & IMPLANTS

56 Lafayette Place, Suite D, Greenwich, CT 203.661.5885 tpigreenwich.com

A Periodontist is a specialized dental professional focusing on preventing, diagnosing, and treating periodontal disease, gum recession and placing dental implants. I have been in practice in Greenwich for 26 years and I have dedicated myself to advancing the field through cutting-edge technology and innovative techniques to improve patient outcomes.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a highly effective solution for replacing missing teeth, providing functional and aesthetic benefits. Over the years, I have continually updated my practice with the latest advancements to enhance precision and success rates. One such advancement is the X-Guide implant navigation system, a state-ofthe-art technology that offers real-time 3D navigation during implant procedures. The X-Guide provides me with a dynamic surgical roadmap, enabling precise implant placement that aligns perfectly with the patient’s anatomy. This technology improves accuracy, reduces surgery time, and promotes quicker recovery.

Palate-Free Root Coverage

In addition to placing dental implants, my practice employs the most innovative technique in periodontal therapy: palate-free gingival grafting for root coverage. Traditional gum grafting often involves harvesting tissue from the patient’s palate, which can be uncomfortable and involves a longer recovery period. The palate-free method utilizes alternative donor sites or biomaterials, minimizing patient discomfort and promoting faster healing. This technique benefits patients experiencing gum recession, offering them a less invasive option with excellent cosmetic results.

Laser Periodontal Therapy

Laser therapy is another cornerstone of my periodontal practice. Utilizing lasers in periodontal treatment has revolutionized the treatment of bone loss, periodontal disease, and peri-implantitis (bone-loss around dental implants). Laser-assisted periodontal therapy targets diseased tissue and bacteria, promoting the regeneration of healthy tissue and bone. The minimally invasive nature of laser treatment means less pain and swelling for patients and shorter recovery times. For patients suffering

from peri-implantitis, lasers provide a highly effective, targeted approach to managing the condition and preserving the longevity of their dental implants.

My practice is not just about utilizing the latest technology; it’s about ensuring each patient receives personalized, comprehensive care. This involves a thorough initial examination, detailed treatment planning, and continuous follow-up to monitor progress and address concerns. Educating patients on the importance of oral hygiene and periodontal maintenance is also a key aspect of my practice, as prevention plays a crucial role in long-term oral health.

With over two decades of experience in periodontics, I have seen firsthand the positive impact that advanced technology and innovative techniques can have on patient care. My commitment to staying at the forefront of periodontal advancements ensures that my patients receive the highest standard of care. Whether through the precision of the X-Guide system for implant placement, the comfort of palate-free gingival grafting, or the efficacy of laser treatments, my goal is to provide optimal outcomes and enhance the overall patient experience.

Linhart Dentistry, with over 40 years of expertise in Midtown Manhattan, has expanded into Greenwich!

“We are old-world service and charm in a modern, state-of-the-art environment”, says Dr. Jan Linhart and Dr. Zachary Linhart, “our history is deeply rooted in New York City, but our story began in Europe, and our patients are from all over the world. We always knew Greenwich would be the next point of expansion, and we are excited to have established our new office in Cos Cob, right in the middle of town.”

In 1979, Dr. Jan Linhart opened the doors to Linhart Dentistry in NYC’s iconic Helmsley Building, steps from Grand Central Terminal. There, Dr. Linhart built a most impressive, full-service dental practice, from full-mouth cosmetic cases to comprehensive general care. NY Magazine referred to the practice as “One-Stop Dental Perfection!”

In 2010, Dr. Zachary Linhart joined the practice after following in his father’s footsteps of attending Bowdoin College and NYU College of Dentistry. He added his expertise in implantology, and echoing his father, an eye for cosmetic dentistry. Their NYC staff of over 25 consists of top inhouse specialists including a Periodontist (gum and implant specialist), Endodontist (Root Canal Specialist), Orthodontist (braces and Invisalign specialist) as well as hygienists, assistants and administrative staff - many of whom have been there for more than twenty years!

It’s clear both doctors have the skill and the talent, and their unparalleled abilities to create the most stunning, natural smiles is at the foundation of their world-renowned reputations as leaders in cosmetic and restorative family dentistry.

If you add up all the years Dr. Goodwin has been in the Dental Field as a Hygienist and a Dentist, you will see she has been taking care of teeth for over 20 years. “Time has flown by. I’ve had the opportunity to see so many changes in Dentistry.” Technological advances really help her days go by with less stress. At her family practice in Cos Cob she uses the safest equipment and the most up-todate technology available. While there are many things I love about being a Dentist, treatment planning with the local specialists in town is very exciting for me. Being a solo Dentist at my office can get lonely sometimes, so it is great to work and collaborate with a group of talented dentists I also call my friends. I love watching kids I see at 3 or 4 years old grow up. Being a general dentist I can appreciate different stages of growth and even watch them have their own children. But the best

part about my job is the worklife balance it provides me of a mother of 2 active boys. I can get into work early, treat patients all day, and make it to their events after school. It is most important to me not to miss my children growing up, and Dentistry allows me to do just that. Our practice has continues to serve our community for over 20 years. We provide state-ofthe-art treatment in all phases of dentistry, including after hour emergency care. We engage in continuing education to stay up to date with the latest technologies to best serve our patients and families. We get to know our patients very, very well. Our staff have been with our practice a LONG time. We love seeing our patients all over town. I love when kids run up to me to show me their wiggly teeth or when patients introduce me to their families. It’s a great feeling and the reason I love being a Local Dentist.
