Moeller fighting to get bock to final four

For the second consecutive year the Moeller lacrosse team enters the postseason as the team to beat in Southern Ohio.

The Crusaders knocked off Lakota West last week, capping of a 5-0 regional record, and earning them the top seed in the Southwest Ohio regional bracket: "We did it last year, so we were cognizant of it," head coacry. Tom Kennedy said of earning the'No. 1 seed.

"We didn't have any goals ~ritten down to start the year, but we got the No. 1 seed and the first-round bye, so that looks good."

Last year the Crusaders advanced to the state semifinals out of their seven-team re_Dion_

Mo.eller has been led by its attack of Alex Hofrichter, Sean Finegan and Corey Bauer. .That trio, all underclassmen, have combined to score 86 goals with 42 assists this season. The same group led Moeller in goals scored a year ago.

"It's definitely a high scoring attack," Kennedy said.

"We expected good things out ofthem." ¡ Two mid-fielders, Jarred Bowman and Vince Catino have also contributed to the Moeller offense.

Bowman, an Ohio State signee, has scored 2 7 goals with 17 assists, while catino has 12 goals and nine assists.

The most impressive showing by the Crusaders this season was a comeback victory over St. Xavier.

Moeller trailed 7-2 at the half to the Bombers, but rallied to score seven goals in the second half to defeat St. xavier 9-7.

That victory was important in the tournament seeding, but it is also a te15tament to how far other teams have come in the sport of lacrosse.

"From ( 1988-199 7) we

dominated the city in lacrosse," said Kennedy, who led the Crusaders to consecutive state titles in 1992 and 1993.

"Now, with so many other schools picking up the sport, it's much tougher to get out of the region. We'll be fighting to get back to the final four."
