The program reached full circle to a co-championship with Centerville in the Southern Ohio High School Hockey League (in its first season) when the Crusaders defeated Ottawa Hills (Toledo), 5·4, last Friday and tied the Columbus Capitals, 6-6, lint Sunday. Four years ago, people Lhought It was runny when Moeller High School established an Ice hockey Learn. AfLer all, It professional teams couldn't make It In Cincinnati, why should a high school team succeed' That was four years ago. Now people associated with the school don't think It's so runny. SLudents attend games regularly and even the athletic department at the school recognizes the team as a true varsity sport. And Lhey should. The team Is currently 17-2 and has a good shoL aL being seeded when the st.aLe LOurnament draw Is held Feb. 5. Moeller clinched its position with a win on Sunday over Upper Arlington at St. Johns Arena (Ohio State University) with a 7-4 victory. Goals were scored by: seniors and co-captains John Stethem, 4 goals, 1· assist; Jeff Young, 2 goals', 3 assists. Freshman Tony Crawford came through with the exciting seventh goal, assisted by Matt Johnson. Rob Morrison and Greg Doucette I also contributed with one assist I each. · Moeller is slated for eight games . before state tournament. Three of ' these games will be on home ice at Northland Ice Genter on the following dates:

Northland Ice Center, 4 p.m. The regular season wraps up with an away trip to Indianapolis when the team plays Lawrence High School and Columbus (Ind.) High School on Feb. 15-16. The following week the state tournament begins.

Moeller ho.ckey r-eport Moeller beat Ottawa Hills of Toledo on Friday with a score of 54. Goals were scored by John~ Stethem,2, Rich Homoelle, 2, Greg Doucette, 1, with assists by Jeff Young, 4, and one each by Bob Driver, Bob Davis and Matt Johnson. On Sunday they gave up a twopoint lead late in the third period to tie the Columbus Capitols 6-6. Goals were scored by John Stethem, 2, Greg Doucette, 2, Jeff Young, 1, Mike Butler, I. Assists were turned in by Young, Geers, Wark, Butler, Douedte, Stdhem and Davis. This was the final home game for the Crusaders before playing Columbus. Ind .. on Feb. 14 at

·Columbus, and their first game in the state playoffs on Feb. 16 against Toledo Whitmir. The game will be played in Findlay at 4 p.m. The varsity spniors, five of them the first to complete four years of varsity hockey nt Moeller, began the game by paying tribute to their parents with a presentation on the ice as well as a tribute to t.hP.ir loyal supporters throughout tfie season. Moeller Hockey Team Co-Champs in League The Moeller High School varsity hockey team wrapped up league play as co-champions of the new Southern Ohio Varsity High School League, sharing the honor with Centerville High School. Both teams had records of 7-1, and each lost only to the other. Moeller clinched its position with a win Sunday over Upper Arlington in St. Johns Arena at Ohio State University by a score of 7-4. Goals were scored by senior co-captains John Stethem (4 goals, 1 assist) and Jeff Young (2 goals, 3 assists) . Morrison and Greg Doucette also contributed one assist each. Moeller has eight more hockey games before state tournament action. Three of these will be on home ice at Northland Ice Center in Evendale on the following dates: Jan. 25 against East Toledo at 6 p.m., Feb. 2 against Toledo Central Catholic at 4 p.m., and Feb. 9 against Columbus Capitols at 4 p.m. The team will wrap up its regular season with a trip to Indianapolis, Ind., to play Lawrence High School and Columbus, Ind., to play Columbus High School Feb. 15-16. The following week the state tournament will begin.

It's time for hockey again at Moeller. This season the team will be fielding .both varsity and reserve hockey team!! because of the dramatic ·increase in players this school year. }{on Kissinger has returned for his third season as head coach and is joined by' his two assistants - Donn Kissinger and Greg Johannes, also ,returning for. a third season. The new reserve coach, Kurt Kissinger, is a student at the University of Cincinnati and has played hockey until this season when he decided to take the position of reserve coach. . . ·,There <trefive piaY'ers returning this season. They will be the first players to compete four full seasons of varsity hockey at Moeller. They are: Bob Davis, Matt Watzek, John Stethem- assistant captain,Jeff Young- assistant captain, and Matt Johnson- captain . .A new.league has been formed .in Ohio this season, the Southern Ohio Varsity ~ockey League. Each team will play the other four teams on a home-and-home schedule. The league is governed by the Ohio Athletic Association as are other high school sports. Moeller hockey team boasts enrollment increase The Moeller High School hockey program will be fielding both varsity and reserve teams this winter due to the dramatic increase in players. Ron Kissinger has returned for his third season as head coach and is joined by his two

The "Crusaders Varsity Team, • has bounced back with three strong wins leaving no doubt that they are on the winning track. · Game one against Talawanda was a'~tough fought game with Talawanda scoring quiCkly in the first. period with two goals, but Moelfer returned with resounding force by scoring five quick goals to ·take ~e lead and kept the lead for the balance of the game allowing one .more goal in winning 5-2. Goals: John Stethem 4; Jeff Young 2- 2 assists, Matt Johnson 2 - 1 .assist, Rich Homoelle 1 goal. Moeller High School's varsity . hockey team continued its wjnning ways with a big victory; over Ce11terville High School. Not only was it the first league game for the Crusaders, but also the first time they have defe~tCenterville. The score wa 5-4 ith three goals scored by Troy vig and one each by John Stethem and Jeff Young. Outstanding defensive performances were turned in by Bob Davis, Rob Morrison, Remi Williams and Rich Homoelle and Jeff Young. Winning goalie was Matt · Watzek, who made 24 saves. Every time the Crusaders were in desperate need of a basket last season, they put the ball in the hands of Byron Larkin. The 8rusaders no longer have this cozy luxury. Larkin has taken his 28-point :~.verage and moved to Xavier University, and there seems to be 110 heir apparent to his job. Vada Murray, a 6-5 forward, :~.veraged 12 points last year and .vill be counted on to pick up most )f the slack. Chris Kuprionis will ;tart at guard after being a partJme starter last year. Keith Sayles, a 6-6, 210-pound ~enter, played the last two years at 3ycamore and may inherit the Moeller center job this season.
