Their citywide -ranking upped two spots to number seven. Moeller golf missed the cut: in regional competition last week, but the team ranked eighth¡ in the city.

'·The Big Moe ends suc.cessful Pre~se~ason The Moeller Crusaders ended a successful football pre-season Friday nigJ;tt. Aug. 20, by defeating a talented and highly-ranked Middletown team. 31-14 at Middletown Barnett Stadium.

The first play of the scrimmage proved to be an ill open for Middletown. It was a routine dive handoff to the right. but defensive lineman Kevin Gilles stripped the ball loose, scooped the fumble and ran 30 yards for a shocking score.

Placekicker Adam Hyzdu kicked the extra point. and seconds Into the contest, Moeller led 7-0.

Moeller's defense, guided by Gilles as well as senior linemen Mike Jennings and Eric Madaris. shut down the Middies. For much of the night Middletown's offense 'las in for 3 plays then out.

Moeller's head football coach Steve Klonne was. ,,~lef!-sed with what he saw. It was encouraging, he said, that the new offense did so well and that the defense had a shut out. However. coach Klonne warns that. "Its not how you (the team) are oow that counts. but how much you will improve In the days to come."

The Crusaders will be tested this coming Friday night when they travel to play a "loaded" Middletown team In a final tuneup for the regular season.
