By Steven Matthews Staff Writer Jacob Maciulewicz is ready for the big stage. The West Chester Twp. resident and Moeller High senior bowler has b~n selected to participate in the inaugural Denny's All-American High School Championships March 24-25 in Grand Rapids, Mich. "I'm really excited," Maciulewicz said. "It's a great opportunity to represent my high .school, my bowling team, Cincinnati and Southwest Ohio in general, especially on a national stage like this." Maciulewicz was among 29 senior student-athletes from around the country chosen by

Denny's, the Professional Bowl- ' ers Association and the United States Bowling Congress. Jacob The final Maciulewicz selections were announced in late February, and were based on bowling accomplishments, academics and other criteria. "' knew I was a decent bowler, but I didn't think they'd choose me out of all the bowlers in Ohio," Maciulewicz said. "I was surprised at first, but afterwards I'm more determined to succeed with this opportunity." Maciulewicz, a team captain for the Crusaders, averaged a 208 this past season while helping the team advance to the regional tournament. He has been practicing at Northwest Lanes and Crossgate Lanes.

Maciulewicz will be competing for $10,000 in scholarships on a PBA oil pattern, and more than 2,000 fans are expected to be in attendance. The Denny's PBA World Championship is being held in conjunction with the High School Championships. "I've been practicing the conditions I should be facing," Maciulewicz said. "I've learned a lot, so I think I've got a pretty decent shot at finishing well." Maciulewicz, who carries a 3.72 grade point average, plans to bowl for Ohio State's club team next season and major in political science. The male and female high school champion will then team will Kelly Kulick and Tony Reyes for a one-game doubles match. The high school finals will be broadcast on ESPN April22.
