OXFORD, Ohio- The Miami Redskins are decided underdogs against the Bowling Green Falcons in their important Mid-American Conference game at 8 p.m. today at Anderson Arena, Bowling Green. How important? Well, big enough to spell out how much a contender (or pretender) the Redskins are. "Actually, it's too early," said assistant coach Joe Barry. "Oh, it's nice to get away 2-0 (Miami's record in the MAC) in the first week, one a road win, the other at home without the students. Kansans irked by Holtz shot ENQUIRER NEWS SERVICES

DALLAS: Steve Miller of Kansas State, the other school Lou Holtz seemed to insult at the Orange Bowl, says K-Staters ev· erywhere are still awaiting Notre Dame's apology. "I have not had a direct communication with them," said the Kansas State athletic director. "I don't think it's my place to say, 'Gee, don't you owe us an apology for your incredibly insensitive remark?' " In the much-publicized incident in Miami, Holtz was caught by a Denver televi~ion crew predicting to his Notre Dame team that Colorado would become confused and start to "grab-bag." Colorado fans were miffed. Holtz added, "They aren't playing Kansas State." "Lou Holtz didn't insult anybody," Notre Dame athletic director Richard Rosenthal said when told of Miller's comments. "He was talking privately to his squad . . . Lou Holtz did indeed publicly apologize to Kansas State."

Snow has surgery on right knee

a

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State tailback Carlos Snow underwent arthroscopic surgery Tuesday on his right knee. University spokesman Steve Snapp said the operation, performed by team physician jack Unverferth, was "fairly routine." Snow, a 5-foot-9, 200-pound junior tailback, rushed for 990 yards on 190 carries for 1I touchdowns last season. He also caught 16 passes for 184 yards and two more scores. He first injured his knee when he stepped on Carlos Snow a sprinkler head while working on conditioning last july before the start of summer workouts. He frequently had the knee drained of fluid throughout the season. Another injury to the knee during the Wisconsin game caused him to miss the game at Michigan. The surgery was performed on an outpatient basis. Snapp said Snow would rest the knee for several weeks then would begin a period of rehabilitation before the start of spring practice in April.
