PRESIDENT’S LETTER Dear Moeller Family, Thank you for taking the time to read our Annual Report. The Board of Trustees, the Leadership Team, Faculty and Staff present this report in appreciation for all you have done for this school.

Our mission is to form our students into remarkable men. Your support during the 2016 fiscal year forwarded that mission. The pages that follow describe some of the ways we achieve our mission, influencing mind, body, and spirit, all within a community of brothers. Rooted in the Catholic faith and steeped in the Marianist tradition, we believe Moeller does this better than any other school.

I took the helm as president in January 2016, and coming back to my alma mater has been a true joy. I have focused on reconnecting with alumni, meeting with our generous benefactors, and engaging with our faculty, staff and students. I feel privileged to be here, back home, at the place that helped shape me as a Christian man.

During the last several months, Moeller’s Leadership Team has worked diligently to identify the priorities that will move us forward. In setting new and challenging goals, we are holding ourselves to the same standards to which we hold our students. Some examples include facility improvements, security upgrades, branding initiatives, and the launch of a strategic planning process.

We promise to build on the strong foundation that has been laid by those who went before us.

Some schools believe that you can be either athletic or intelligent.

Fortunately, we are not one of those schools. We know that our athletic tradition is worthy of the attention it receives and we are proud of our storied accomplishments. Athletics and co-curricular activities function as an integral part of our total curriculum and help us to achieve our mission.

We offer a gamut of programs that are available to all students, regardless of

CHARITABLE GIVING Through the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends, Moeller is able to provide a quality Catholic education in the Marianist tradition to all of our students each year. There are many ways to make a gift to Moeller. Whichever way you choose, please know that your gift is greatly appreciated and that every dollar you give directly impacts the educational experience provided by Archbishop Moeller High School.

GIFTS FOR CURRENT PROGRAMS Gift of Cash: most often in the form of a personal check made payable to Archbishop Moeller High School or a debit/credit card.

Gift of Stock: may be transferred to Archbishop Moeller High School, avoiding capital gains tax.

Gift of Property: great way to create a Named Scholarship.

Matching Gift: from a corporation. Many U.S. companies participate in a matching gift program.

Acceptance: On occasion, Moeller is presented with a unique gift opportunity that requires the institution to formally accept a gift before it is actually made to the school. For that reason, Moeller reserves the right to formally review any gift, regardless of its asset form, before it is receipted.

GIFTS PLANNED FOR THE FUTURE Bequests: This is a gift made by a provision in one’s will naming Archbishop Moeller High School as beneficiary.

It can reduce estate taxes.

Charitable Gift Annuity: This gift allows the donor to receive benefits for his/her lifetime and to qualify for a charitable tax deduction. This form of support is attractive when one has highly appreciated assets.

Charitable Remainder Trust: This form of support transfers assets to a trustee, who in turn manages the trust and pays an income back to the donor for life or for a specific time. When the trust terminates, the remainder passes to Moeller. Key benefits to the donor might include an income-tax deduction, the avoidance of capital gains tax (when appreciated securities are used), as well as an estate-tax reduction.

Life Insurance: This gift names Archbishop Moeller High School as the owner and beneficiary of a life insurance policy and the premiums become eligible as a tax-deductible gift.

The information in these charts shows both the generosity of our donors, as well as the financial reality for Archbishop Moeller High School.

The Endowment has grown +$1 million in the last four years (endowment investments will generally spin off 5% annually for Moeller, which means an increase of +$1 million delivers +$50,000 for financial aid).

At the same time, the need for financial aid has increased substantially during the same period: +$1.8 million.

Key Takeaway: More families need more help to attend Moeller, and the Endowment has not kept pace with the demand.
