Blood at the Root, a bold drama based on the events surrounding the Jena Six case that examines the miscarriage of justice, racial double standards, and the crises in relations between men and women of all classes.
On a hot fall day, a black student sits under the old oak tree in front of the high school that is usually a gathering place for white students. The next day, three nooses are found hanging from the tree. Racial tensions continue to mount until winter when six black students beat up a white student in the cafeteria and all the students are forced to confront the nature of racial bias. Moving, lyrical, and bold, Morrisseau'sBlood at the Root offers an exciting challenge for a community of young actors to create art addressing the most challenging issues of our time.
