unday, April 18, 2021 was a special day for longtime Highland Parker, Frances White. She celebrated her 90th birthday. Her family planned a surprise drive by party for her and boy was she truly surprised! There were probably 50 cars lined up on John R near her home on Massachusetts Street. At 12 noon cars started driving down Massachusetts honking, waving and shouting birthday greetings. Francis said over and over again “I’m so happy, I’m so happy!” “This is such a surprise!” “This is such a special day!”. Family, friends,her quilting sisters, neighbors and city leaders came to join in this joyous day. Michigan Renewable Energy Associations (MREA) recently completed a solar installation training course at Parker Village. The Midwest Renewable Energy Association (MREA) is a nonprofit organization with the mission of promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency, and sustainable living through education and demonstration. The event Kickstarted programs and events that will be happening at PV. It was a fantastic start, with a bright, sunny day and perfect weather as students learned the ins and outs of Solar panel installation. DTE SETTLEMENT
AGREEMENT It's May and the weather is tempting us with the sunshine and warmth that we all crave so much! Thank you to those of you who were able to attend our Annual Meeting on May 2nd. On Wednesday, DTE Energy publicly filed a proposed settlement agreement in a Michigan Public Service Commission case regarding their clean energy plans. As the result of Soulardarity’s engagement, the agreement includes a low-income renewable energy pilot that, if successful, will lead to three solar projects of over 250 KW being built in Highland Park, Detroit, and River Rouge. While the pilot makes some useful steps, it leaves a lot to be desired from the perspective of racial, economic, and environmental justice and energy democracy.
