Parker Village Launches Small Business Initiative Parker Village officially announces our small business initiative. The program will provide an outlet for small businesses to have a source or an additional source to selling their products online via Parker Village’s online store. Various items will also be featured physically in the upcoming Parker Village Garden Cafe when it opens. These featured items will be rotated monthly. The initiative targets Veterans, People of Color, Women and Highland Parker Owned products. Look for our revamped website soon at www.Parkervillagehp.com. TEAM ALEX & D2N WE’RE HIRING General Laborer​: Assist with ground maintenance, Farming, food deliveries and distribution of community newsletter. • Part-time (12 hours per week to start) • $15.00 per hr. • Must have Valid Driver’s License • Must be able to pass background check Chef/General Manager​: Prepare a variety of grilled foods and vegan dishes based on healthy living principles. Plan and price menu items, order supplies and maintain records and accounts. Supervise food preparation staff. • Part-time • Salary negotiable • Must have transportation • Must have a valid driver’s license Sales:​ • This is a commission based position to start. Looking for a few good people to expand our monthly community newsletter. Intern Editor: Interested in a student journalist or freelancer to work for extra credit by writing and editing on all things editorial, working on content-type expansions and any duties assigned by the Editor for our community newsletter. Avalon Village Unity Festival A Community-Led Movement To Create A Healthy, Safe, Sustainable Neighborhood theavalonvillage.org

Avalon Village, a community-led effort to create a healthy, safe, and sustainable neighborhood for Michigan’s Highland Park residents and Hip-Hop Pioneer Radio Rahim of Brooklyn, New York have teamed up to present a ‘Unity Festival’ Benefit Concert featuring local jazz talent and platinum recording artist, ‘DJ Grand Master D’ from Whodini starting at 4pm on May 30,2021. Proceeds from the event to be held at ‘Jakobi Ra Park’ located at 24 Avalon Street in Highland Park will be used to continue the work of its Founder Mama Shu, to raise funds for lighting, security cameras, fencing and staff, and to launch in memory of her son Chinyelu that she recently loss to senseless gun violence; ‘Invincible Gardens’. Avalon Village, born following the death of her 2-year-old son, Jakobi RA who was killed by a hit and run driver in 2007, has been the dream of Mama Shu who since losing Jakobi devoted her life to turning a city block of abandoned homes into a clean, safe, and beautiful healing space for the entire community. Donors and Supporters since her journey began have included tv talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, and people from over 140 countries around the world. Together we have helped Mama Shu turn blight into beauty and her grief into a safe haven of joy for many. Now as she mourns yet another unbearable loss, Mama Shu needs our love and support and your help to continue the work of building the village. Programs from DTE and the State of MI have proven to be underfunded and inadequate. This fund is designed to help people sustain while we keep fighting for affordable, community-owned clean energy.
