A merry Mexican fiesta
By Suzette Jessica
When we talk of celebrations, fiestas are top of mind. And what could be more festive than a Mexican-themed birthday party for Guatemala Consul Amelia “Mellie” Ablaza, held at the Ablaza’s grand hacienda in Alfonso, Cavite? With the support of her loving husband Zambia Consul Louie Ablaza and masterminded by her son avant-garde artist and fashion designer Jun Jun Ablaza, it was an evening of dance, music, fashion and art one associates with Latin America.
To the delight of her guests, Mellie emerged in an antique gold tunic printed with a portrait of famous Mexican painter Frida Khalo, her head crowned with a garland of blush-colored blooms. Guests enjoyed the feast of Guatamelan favorites and cocktails, true to her zest for life.
