Bloom Where You’re Planted: The Quilting Journey of Heather Briggs
“You never know what you are capable of until you try.” For Heather Briggs, this simple truth has guided every chapter of her creative journey. It carried her from the world of architectural design into quilting, through countless late nights stitching her first quilt, and eventually to a dream she once thought unreachable— designing fabric for Moda Fabrics.
Today, Heather is known as the designer behind My Sew Quilty Life, a brand that blends her architectural eye for detail with a love of nature and a distinctly romantic, floral style. Her work feels both intentional and heartfelt, shaped by a path that is as inspiring as the quilts she creates.
From Blueprints to Quilt Blocks
Before she ever pieced a quilt block, Heather was drafting blueprints. As an Architectural Designer, she worked on
hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country. The job demanded precision and problem-solving, sharpening her understanding of structure, balance, and proportion—skills that now form the foundation of her quilt designs.
Quilting entered her life unexpectedly in 2017 while she was running a newborn photography business. Wanting a handmade quilt as a photo prop, she ambitiously chose the intricate Grandmother’s Flower Garden pattern. Her plan was to distress it for an antique look, but after stitching thousands of hand-pieced hexagons over nearly three years, she couldn’t bring herself to alter it.
“It was at that moment that I learned to respect quilting,” Heather says. “I spent nearly three years finishing it, but it will always be a treasure to pass down.” What began as a prop became a passion, and quilting became her creative home.
Building My Sew Quilty Life
In 2020, Heather felt called to a new season. She longed to step away from the demanding hours of architecture and embrace a life centered on family and creativity. That’s when My Sew Quilty Life was born.
Her pattern brand quickly became known for its feminine, floral aesthetic and thoughtfully designed quilts. Heather estimates she has now published over 100 patterns, many featured in quilting magazines—a remarkable accomplishment in just a few short years. Still, fabric design remained her greatest dream, and when the opportunity with Moda Fabrics arrived, she embraced it wholeheartedly.
Family, Faith, and Community
Heather lives in South Carolina’s Blue Ridge foothills with her husband Zach,

their teenage son Seth, and their goldendoodle, Griffey. “Not a day goes by that we don’t talk about quilts or fabric,” she shares. “My family is my biggest support system.”
Her faith also anchors her life and work. “My Lord and Jesus Christ come first,” Heather says, a belief that brings purpose and meaning to all she creates.
Blooming Into the Future
“My quilting story is rather unique,” Heather reflects, “but I think that’s what makes it special. I didn’t know what I didn’t know—and that made me brave enough to start.”
Today, she encourages others to take that same leap of faith, believing that with creativity, courage, and a little floral inspiration, anyone can bloom where they are planted.

Friends, welcome to Bloomsberry. A fun little twist on the darling Bloomsbury neighborhood in London’s west end, to me this collection feels just like Springtime in London. I took my family to visit my little brother there last spring and it was absolutely lovely. Flower boxes, blooming gardens, and beautiful blue skies, it simply couldn’t have been more charming. While we were out exploring one beautiful morning we weren’t quite sure where we were until my youngest son spotted a sign that let us know we were in Bloomsbury. At
that very moment the idea of this sweet collection was born.

Joysome is a breath of sherbet-sweet happiness come to life!
I used many of my favorite colors for this collection: creamsicle orange, lemon sherbet, rosy gelato pinks, minty greens, little scoops of dreamy lavender, sky-washed blues, and frosty aquas. It’s like opening the freezer on a summer afternoon.

My love for quilts arrived early. As a young girl, I was gifted a quilt with a butterfly in each block. I LOVED that quilt and it was very well used- it was pretty much threads by the time I turned ten. I remember spending hours staring at the butterflies, each in a different print, trying to choose which was my favorite for the day. Maker’s Delight is about that feeling you get when you’re putting together a project and start to get excited about how it is coming together. Chrissy Lux is a life long crafter who has been sewing various bags, totes, and quilts for over 20 years. In 2010, she and her mother, Linda, started Sew Lux Fabric, an online fabric shop. Fast forward a few years, Chrissy designed a pouch to sell some Mini Charm packs. Kits sold out quickly and the idea for a monthly pouch club was born! Sew Lux has successfully run a monthly pouch club since 2017, delighting customers each month with a new project. Since 2017, club offerings have expanded to include pillow and table runner projects.
Chrissy believes the best part of being a maker is showing care for others through the gift of a handmade project. This is why you will find so many patterns for small and useful projects. Not only do they make great gifts, but they can easily fit into a busy schedule.
In addition to Sew Lux Fabric, Chrissy also designs patterns under the brand name Branch & Blume. This line of patterns includes quilts, table runners, pillows, and more, while pouches continue to be released under the Sew Lux brand. One of her goals in pattern writing is to make patterns that are straightforward for shops to kit, often incorporating precuts. She strives to design projects that quilters of all skill levels can find success and joy in making.

‘You Count’
In my home I’m surrounded by logically thinking, good at maths- equation remembering spreadsheet lovers. As someone who is entirely the opposite it made me think that maybe, just maybe data and maths could be interesting and maybe even beautiful?
I took a better look and started a Pinterest board (my favourite!) and before long I found myself inspired by infographics, data visualisation artists and even equations that have changed the world- and then I drew them and played with my number stencils and before long I had a fabric collection called ‘DATA’.

I don’t have much of a green thumb, but I do enjoy digging in the dirt, planting a seed, and waiting to see what happens. Years ago, we planted a wildflower garden along a row of sandhill plum bushes. I was excited to see a few blooms the first year and hoped for more the following year. Unfortunately, only a few scattered, straggly flowers appeared. After about 4 years, Robert commented on the variety of “weeds” growing along the bushes. Amazingly, those “weeds”

free pattern! The Ruby Star Sampler 60” x 66"
We are so excited to share our newest and most ambitious pattern yet: the Ruby Star Sampler! We’ve teamed up with PreQuilt to bring you not only the pattern, but an interactive tool that lets you create your own fully customized quilt.
Inspired by historic sampler quilts, this design is made up of a delightful assortment of 6” and 12” blocks that nod to past Ruby Star patterns and feature some of our favorite signature motifs. The blocks use a variety of piecing methods, ranging from beginner-friendly to more advanced techniques.
Using PreQuilt, you can make the quilt exactly as shown—or design your own unique version by rearranging blocks and swapping in any Ruby Star Society fabrics. PreQuilt will generate fabric requirements and cutting guidelines for any version of this quilt you dream up, and will provide printable instructions for each block.
We’ll continue adding new quilt templates and block options over time, rolling them out alongside future fabric releases.
We invite shops to use the PreQuilt platform to design a Ruby Star Sampler using fabrics from their own inventory—perfect for creating custom kits, sewing shop samples, or hosting a class or sew-along. We can’t wait to see what you create!

This collection is rooted in Sarah Watt's lifelong love of tattoos and the way they hold our stories, like small markers of the lives we are living. They honor a specific moment, a feeling, a season of life, and invite us to collect memories while embracing imperfections along the way.
As she began getting the tattoos she had always dreamed about, something shifted. She stepped out of a shell she hadn’t realized she was still living in. It felt like a quiet rebirth—a realization that this was her body, and she gets to love it, claim it, and decorate it in ways that tell her story.
