The story began
with our dear friend Mr. Bartholo-Meow out for an afternoon adventure bobbing along under the beautiful, briney sea. As he passed by one adorable, friendly sea creature after the next he felt very inspired. “Hmmm how could I bring all of you up to say hello to the land children?” As he bobbed...and thought...and bobbed... and thought, a treasure of an idea popped into his mind. He knew just the thing. Just the thing that would make kids giggle as they wrapped themselves up in their cozy new quilts. “I shall create a fantastically fun fabric collection!” declared Mr. Bartholo-Meow to himself, inside his scuba bubble.

n the middle of designing this collection, I had the occasion to drive through the farmlands and blooming orchards of Northern California on my way to
teach a seminar. Somewhere far along the backroads, without another soul in sight, I started dreaming of fruit stands and jams, of summer flowers and dresses billowing in the summer winds. This collection makes me think of that kind of farmland summer and even though I have never lived on a farm, I long to be a farm girl

hile visiting the butterfly gardens at the Omaha Zoo, I sat on a bench as all types of butterflies landed on my shirt. It was so calming and I felt as one with nature. It inspired me to learn a little more about the butterflies in the state of Minnesota only to discover we were on a direct flight for them on there way to Mexico. As sure as the mighty Mississippi starts as a babbling brook in northern Minnesota the Monarch comes out of Canada and follows its path for a short distance. The burst of Spring colors and the beautiful butterflies were the inspiration for Woodland Summer. We hope you like the brighter palette we have used in this collection.

This fabric collection began with a lovely vintage floral print found by a dear friend, Pam Buda, of Heartspun Quilts. Even though she designs fabric for another company, she knew I would love this fabric and saved it for me. Our love of quilting brought us together and our mutual addiction to antiques has made the bond even stronger. We are each other’s sounding boards, editors and cheerleaders. I use my Bella Solids color card to get the perfect color match, add in neutrals as needed, and then let those colors guide me in designing a quilt pattern to show them off. The patterns I've created for Bella Solids showcase my vintage modern aesthetic and appeal to a range of skill levels.
