Tyre Pressure Monitoring System Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems are electronic systems which monitor tyre pressure and temperature, informing drivers of low pressure or sudden deflation of tyres. These systems transmit data to the vehicles ECU and is depicted via a pictogram display, voice activation or a simple warning light within the vehicle. There are 2 main types of TPMS systems. Indirect and direct systems. Indirect System The vehicle’s ECU/ESC uses the ABS sensors to calculate the rate at which each wheel rotates, therefore determining if a tyre has a reduction in pressure in relation to the others wheels. Direct Fit System Consists of a TPMS sensor installed directly on to the valve of each wheel. The sensors use radio frequencies to transmit the data to the ECU. These sensors send information relating to the tyres pressure and temperature in near real time through to the vehicles ECU via RF signals.
