Now that the official start to winter has come and gone, it’s time…to get ready for some snowmobiling! What a great Hay Days it was this year. Saturday was probably the most people I’ve ever seen at Hay Days in some 20 years I have attended. The enthusiasm of similar and like people for the coming season was evident for all to see. Beautiful weather and cooler temperatures helped with the feel of the coming season. The vendors displaying their products or services, and the sleds in the swap and on display, satisfied the visual part. The sound of the racing and the smells of two-stroke smoke, or more, enhanced even more senses, to conclude that it truly is time …for the snowmobiling season to start.
It’s time …to carry that enthusiasm into the coming season. We have a Fall Workshop coming up starting on Friday, October 21st, with registration beginning from 3pm to 7pm,
Snowmobile Safety Instructor Training promptly starting at 5pm. Food and beverages will be available from 6pm and the hospitality room will be open from 8pm to 10pm.
Saturday registration continues at 7am in the front lobby of the Holiday Inn Austin Conference Center. Morning events include the general membership with the election of officers and voting on the bylaw change that was published in Minnesota Snowmobiling last month. Then the fun starts with very educational seminars after lunch on your own. Sessions will include Grant Writing 101, Youth Group Focus, Chainsaw Safety, What is Trespassing, and more. Social hour is at 5:30 and dinner with a fundraiser for the Vets Ride at 6:30pm.
On Sunday we will have our directors meeting starting at 8am. Please reserve your spot today by completing the registration form in this publication. All events are at the Holiday Inn Austin Conference Center.
It’s time…to be thinking of how we can get more youth involved in our sport; how we can get more of the snowmobiling public to join MnUSA; how we get more out of ourselves to promote our sport. Bring a friend to your next club meeting. If we each can sign up one new member, that doubles our membership.
It’s time …to talk to that business to join MnUSA as a business sponsor. They will get great exposure to not just snowmobilers, but snowmobilers that have a multitude of other interests that may fit well with what they sell.
It’s time…we actively promote the sport on social media and in those avenues we have not yet ventured, getting our message out of family fun, safe and enjoyable recreation, on a wellestablished trail system that we have had in place for years. It was interesting at Hay Days on how many people from out of state want to come to Minnesota to ride, and where? and when? and what type of riding would fit their style of riding. We are a destination!
It’s time…if you’re a director to get out to the clubs in your regions, go to their meetings, introduce yourself, let them know about what you do as a director and how they can get involved by joining a committee, or volunteering at a MnUSA event.
It’s time …if you’re a committee chair, to start to meet with your committee and find out what we need to do to help get members to join the committee, and get your committee’s goals known and accomplished.
It’s time…we all step up and move this organization forward. We have a lot of great opportunities to grow; I hope you will join me.
Ahh… that time of year. As I kid, I knew summer had ended when the county fair in Waconia had come to a close and mom would pull out the good old Sears catalog—I am talking mid-60s something—and order up some Tough Riders (those jeans would never wear out) and a new set of P.F. Flyers for the new school year. By the end of the school year the jeans were just starting to soften up, but you were set for your first day of school. After that first day, you were then given a list of what you needed for school, then we would run to Ben Franklin in town to buy everything. There was no Walmart, Target or Amazon. Small towns were more self-efficient back then, and people were always willing to help. My, how things have changed. Modern technology has brought us a long way, but in the same sense has ruined us.
I loved my childhood. I had the freedom to roam all over town and the countryside without a worry. Today, many parents don’t allow their children to play out of their sight. This brings me to snowmobiling. Why you ask? It allowed me as a child the responsibility and freedom to live a fun life for that moment. I could just forget about school, the job that I had (yes, I started working at the age 12), and just explore the country fields/woodlands without a worry.
That is when you catch that fever, that drive, that eagerness, that smell that starts it all. That is when you know the season is upon us. Oh, that particular smell; and it’s not the smoke of wildfires coming from out West. Come on, you know what I mean. It first starts with the State Fair, and then the kids are off to school, and then comes the start of snowmobile season—yeah, Hay Days! I attended this year and walked around and watched some of the races and jumps. I spoke with many people, and yes, there were many people. I felt like I was at the State Fair. You could hear the excitement in their voices as we spoke about the upcoming season.
I did stop by the Arctic Cat display as they were about to reveal the new model of snowmobile, but I couldn’t even get close. The crowds’ reaction seemed well received. And as we were leaving and walking out to our vehicle across the field, I looked out and noticed that thousands of cars are parked in an alfalfa field. I thought to myself, farmers really don’t want you to snowmobile across their frozen, snow-covered field as the sled might damage the crop, yet here we are parking in a field, and just after a rain. How ironic!
With excitement from Hay Days, I have already started getting trails ready. Out in the south metro we haven’t had much
rain at all, so our swamps/wet areas are dry. Now is the time to cut down the high weeds and cattails before the rains do come. Cleaning up the trails is important as we do not get the snowfall amounts that we had when I was a child that would cover everything. Today we need to clear out every branch, large rocks, and the junk that the lazy inconsiderate throw out (FYI, it doesn’t cost that much to properly dispose of the items you don’t want). I know that I am rambling on here, but to those who belong to clubs and volunteer their free time, and I do mean free time, you know what I am talking about with the junk you find.
It is important to join a club and keep the spirit of snowmobiling alive and trail system going. Without a club or an organization of some sort to help volunteer in, where would we be? Many clubs today help out in community services, raise and give money to charities and so much more. After all, it gives your spouse a break with the other out of the house.
With that, don’t forget the Fall Workshop at the end of October.
See you out on the trails...

At every MnUSA meeting, I hear people talking about the importance of protecting the rights of our children and grandchildren to experience the joy of snowmobiling. Of course, protecting trails is MnUSA’s raison d’etre (our reason and purpose for being), not only for ourselves but for future generations.
Over the years we have faced many threats to our sport. However, I can recall only one existential threat to snowmobiling. In the late ‘90s, two innocent children were killed by drunk snowmobilers. Snowmobiling was in the headlines and our detractors were out in force. The public outrage was such that unless something was done, snowmobiling’s continued existence in Minnesota was threatened. MnUSA, recognizing the threat, went to work.
MnUSA developed a three-point program to present to the DNR and the Minnesota Legislature. First, we requested and received additional funding for increased enforcement. Second, we proposed mandatory safety training for all snowmobilers, on a phased-in basis. Third, we requested general fund dollars for trail modernization so our existing trails would be safer. At the legislature, we argued that responsible organized snowmobiling promoted public safety. The legislature enthusiastically adopted our proposals which laid the foundation for our existing system.
In addition to legislative success, MnUSA was widely recognized as a proactive group which sees safety as a critical priority. That was nice.
The most important thing that we achieved was a change in culture for snowmobilers. No longer was drinking and riding acceptable. I believe that this cultural change was by far the most important and difficult thing we accomplished. Of course, this cultural change was not universally accepted and remains a work in progress. There are still some impaired snowmobilers out there. Since our 1997 reforms, another child has needlessly died, and we continue our work to prevent such tragedies.
We emerged from this crisis stronger than ever.
Today we face another existential crisis. That crisis is the threat posed to our Grant-in-Aid system by recreationalists going off trail and trespassing on private land. I know off-trail riding can be fun but so can recreational drug use. Awful things result from the enjoyment of both types of fun. The loss of our permits/easements from our landowners will mean the end of our GIA trail system. It’s that simple!
The 2022 Minnesota Legislature adopted our proposals to increase the penalties for recreational trespass and the new law should help. What we need is widespread awareness among recreationalist about the consequences of trespass and vigorous enforcement of the law. We continue to work to achieve these goals.
What we really need is a cultural change among snowmobilers, OHV enthusiasts and ATV riders. We are working together with all the motorized recreational groups to bring about both the public awareness and change in culture. If we succeed, our grandchildren will experience the joys of safe, sober, lawabiding snowmobiling. If we fail, the thrill of winters outdoors will only be a memory and a story to tell the grandkids.
The MnUSA state officer elections will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, during the membership annual meeting at the Holiday Inn Conference Center, Austin. Nominations accepted during the summer meeting were for incumbents. Note: Tim Heinen is unable to fulfill his nomination and has removed his name from the ballot. Snowmobile Day is a day to celebrate the snowmobiling community and begin preparations for the upcoming season. Snowmobile clubs and dealers are planning fun, family festival type events that may include refreshments, music, vintage display, safety classes and/or an open house that will get snowmobilers excited for the upcoming season. Planning a Snowmobile Day celebration is a perfect opportunity to bring enthusiasts together in kicking off the season and enjoying the snowmobile family lifestyle. This is a great opportunity for clubs and associations to increase membership and recruit volunteer for trail activities.
Clubs that are participating in Snowmobile Day should let MnUSA know what you have planned so your event can be promoted on MnUSA’s Facebook page and website. Also, take photos and submit your event as Club News in this publication.
At Winter Rendezvous 2023, MnUSA will be recognizing snowmobilers for their contributions to our great winter sport! This year we will be presenting six awards:
• Snowmobiler / Snowmobile Family of the Year
• Unsung Hero
• Young Snowmobiler of the Year
• Dealer of the Year
• Snowmobile Club of the Year
• Groomer of the Year
Our trail system exists today because off our dedicated network of volunteers. This is a great opportunity to recognize and thank those snowmobilers that contribute so much for our sport – PROTECTING YOUR TRAILS. Deadline for nominations is November 30, 2022. Application forms can be found on MnUSA’s website – www.mnsnowmobiler.org.
To help Minnesota snowmobilers make the best informed decisions about the various candidates, we have sought out the candidate’s opinions on our issues. The results can be seen below.
Due to space limitations, many explanatory comments have been omitted from the print version of the survey as referenced with an asterisk. However, all responses INCLUDING COMMENTS are shown as written on our website—www. mnsnowmobiler.org.
Take a moment to see if the candidates in your district have responded. If they have, call or send a note thanking them. Even if they disagree with our position, these people have taken the time to think about our issues and care enough about snowmobiling to share their thoughts. If your candidates haven’t responded, ask them why.
Most importantly, support those candidates who support snowmobiling! Note that we have bipartisan support. Help them out, put out a lawn sign and VOTE. Snowmobiling will stay strong as long as we care enough to be involved.
If you are not sure who will represent you with the redistricting, go to https://www.gis.lcc.mn.gov/iMaps/districts/. You will then need to click on “find your new House district” (in the blue box) and then type in your address and the website will tell you which districts you reside in. For example, if your House district is 43A, your Senate district is 43. You can then see if your candidates have responded to the survey. Let’s have a big impact on this important election.
#1 Do you agree that the sport of snowmobiling is an essential part of Minnesota’s economic health, quality of life and tourism industry?
#2 Will you oppose any effort to divert funds from the Snowmobile Dedicated Account for nonsnowmobiling purposes?
#3 Will you resist any legislative attempt to reduce the 1% unrefunded gas tax allocated to the snowmobile dedicated account?
#4 Will you support at least 60% of the user fees paid by snowmobilers be earmarked for local grantin-aid trails?
#5 Do you support a portion of the Parks and Trails Legacy Funds to go to trails that benefit snowmobiling?
#6 Will you support efforts to protect and accommodate trail crossings for newly publicly funded rail developments?
#7 Will you support further reform in statutory penalties for unlawful trespass behavior if the penalty increases prove inadequate to protect landowners?
#8 Do you support a sales tax exemption for building materials used to construct and maintain snowmobile trails?
#9 Do you have any other ides on how to achieve adequate funding for Minnesota’s snowmobile trails?

MnUSA Region 6 consists of Anoka, Ramsey, Washington, and Dakota counties. What makes our region unique is that we are split by the Mississippi River. So, in a way, we have Region 6 North and Region 6 South. The northern half has over 220 miles of trails, and the southern half has over 250 miles. Our region provides a welcome escape for those of us trapped in urban and suburban environments who just want to leave their house for a family afternoon run or a nice dinner. We have 17 clubs that contribute to the success of our trails.
To experience the northern region, there are several park and rides, but if you park and start out in Cottage Grove at the VFW, just off Hwy. 61, you can head north on trails where you have scenery that you can’t see by car or even bike. Wind your way through and take a few of the “off” shoots and make your way over to Bayport for a view of the St. Croix River, then head back and make your way even farther north all the way up to Forest Lake. Take a break at the Old Log Cabin which is an updated version of what the name implies. They serve up tasty burgers with a charm not found in chain establishments.
Suit back up and follow the trails back south but take a detour and follow trails to the west side of 35E and enjoy a calming ride through farm fields, cattail marshes, hardwood forests, and the 5,500-acre Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Reserve while your food digests. Don’t worry, being in the “burbs,” there are plenty of stops for fuel, and other places to eat, like Sal’s Angus Grill, Blacksmith Lounge, Rusty Cow, and Trappers to mention a few, or you can stop at several shelters along the way to take a break.
Also, if you think ahead, you can backpack a trip and head north all the way up to Grand Marais if you so desire. Now that would be an adventure. Let’s also not forget that Sno Barons are part of Region 6, and they work hard every year to bring you the infamous “Hay Days” every September.
Ok, now that we covered the north, let’s cross the river and ride the southern region. To start, you can trailer down Interstate 35 and exit at CR70. There is a park and ride across the street from Holiday Inn, or you can go to the Red Fox Tavern. Of course, our trails serve all the locals in Dakota County, so most can just leave their house without trailering. Once you unload, your first run should be to head up to Ritter Farm Park, beautiful scenery with lots of wildlife, then jump on Lake Marion and make your way east towards Farmington. There you can take a pit stop at the Sno-Tigers shelter.
Once warmed up, continue east towards Hastings. Along the way take break in Coats, at the House of Coats, then continue to Hastings. From there head south as you can make a big loop and head towards Miesville. All have places to eat, like House of Coats, Dan’s Bar, and King’s Bar— a big hit in Miesville. You can work your way back to Lakeville without hitting the same trail. There are plenty of offshoots to explore, and as the same with the northern trails, the southern half connects with other trails to get you farther out. Head to Red Wing or towards Mankato, the possibilities are endless.
Region 6 meets the first Tuesday of the month August through May, at either the VFW in Forest Lake or Carbones in Cottage Grove starting at 7 pm. Please check our Facebook page for
that month’s location. We get about 6 to 8 clubs that have members come to the meetings to discuss any issues or problems that they might have, and we all work on solutions.
Each club shares with everyone what events they have going on, for example: Bayport Pathfinders have “Hair of the Dog” rally on New Year’s Day. East Cottage Grove does a “Dust ‘em Off” antique/swap meet around the first weekend of January. Hastings does a vintage show and ride in February, and Stillwater does a “The Older the Better” vintage show at the beginning of Feb. All the events draw in crowds from all around the state.
During the summer months we have clubs join in on the local town events like parades. All summer, Lakeville will do a “Drive and Dine” which helps keep in touch with members.
All the clubs do a Christmas party for their members, along with a landowner appreciation event of some sort.
Then there is the safety training that a lot of our clubs do, and they train roughly 250-350 kids each season. Hats off to all that do the training, and a big thank you to all who volunteer their time in setting up trails, maintaining the trails, and yes, we must take down the trails at the end of season.
So, if you want to ride a sled but don’t feel like driving hours north, check out your own backyard. Our clubs do a good job in giving you a memorable weekend.
Those of us able to hit the trail during the week or just Saturdays in winter when staying close to home do so because of our local trail systems. If not the Luce Line trails for me, in McLeod County and west of Minneapolis, there is the convenience of neighboring clubs like the Washington County Star Trail Association, in the east Metro.
Serving Stillwater, Hugo, Grant, May Township and Scandia to the north, and Withrow, Bayport, Woodbury and Cottage Grove to the south, the Washington County Star Trail Association marks, maintains, and grooms over 140 miles of snowmobile trails and has welcomed snowmobilers for over 70 years. Specialists in the network maintain and mark routes in vicinity to the St. Croix River from Cottage Grove to Forest Lake.
The city of Hugo is a favorite location for snowmobilers. Whether this is a starting point or destination, Hugo has lots to offer. The Hardwood Creek trail parallels Highway 61 and extends through Hugo to Forest Lake where you can find services including hotels, fuel, restaurants, snowmobile repair and more.
Via corridor trails, there is access to the Munger snowmobile trail system leading north to Duluth and the Iron Range or over the St. Croix River, across northern Wisconsin and leading to places like Iron, Michigan.
Get that “up north” feel through the incredible trail system in Lake Elmo Park Reserve. Have a stop at the warming house and enjoy a hot dog and marshmallows over the bonfire.
To the south you’ll find Withrow, Bayport and Woodbury.
Bayport celebrates “Hair of the Dog” each year on New Year’s Day at Sal’s Angus Grill in Withrow for its annual vintage snowmobile rally.
The following week (January 7th in 2023) the “Dust ‘em Off” annual vintage sled show, hosted by Cottage Grove, provides family fun, no matter the age.
Then in February, Stillwater-North hosts “The Older the Better” vintage sled event at Blacksmith Lounge in Hugo on Saturday, the 4th. The Blacksmith and Sal’s offer large parking areas with access to the trail systems.
“Come experience some of the best groomed trails in the state! We have almost four tractors running, seven days a week.” according to John Udstuen, President of WCSTA. “We don’t stop for nothin’!”
Because of their efforts and with the influx of revenue to the club through charitable gambling, they are going to run feeder trails up by Carbone’s Pizzeria.
Udstead recognizes snowmobiling near Stillwater is the club’s biggest contributor for fundraising. “We have a fun, exciting atmosphere around here. We bring money to the city because we are a destination sport.”
Jen McCormick, of the Stillwater Chamber of Commerce boasts “Date Night with over 30 pubs and restaurants downtown” via discoverstillwater.com. “Whether on the trails at No Neck Tony’s, Cozzies, or even finer places downtown like Matchstick Restaurant inside Hotel Crosby, there is something for everyone,” she says.
The weekend of September 16-17, 2023, the International Snowmobile Hall of Fame (ISHOF) inducted four individuals into its ranks in recognition for their achievements for the sport of snowmobiling.
Jason Howell of West Yellowstone, MT, was inducted as an inventor, designer and manufacturer. Jason’s family started an Arctic Cat/Yamaha dealership and the first snowmobile rental facility in the 1970s in West Yellowstone. Jason’s involvement with Arctic Cat went well beyond the dealership when he was hired in 1997 as their engineering team manager to head up the new mountain sled division. He returned to the family business in 2008 where his family played an instrumental role in keeping Yellowstone National Park open to snowmobiling. Jason has served as president of the Montana Snowmobile Association and is involved in many other snowmobile related organizations.
Ed Klim of Haslett, MI, was also inducted as an inventor, designer & manufacturer. With a strong background in economics and communications, in 1995 Ed took on a new challenge when he became President of the International Snowmobile Manufacturers Association. He was tasked to develop programs keying on snowmobile safety and promoting the snowmobile industry worldwide, the catalyst to set the programs in motion to shed a more positive light on the sport of snowmobiling and to improve its image. Among Ed’s programs are the Snowmobiling Fact Book, Safe Riders, Family Friendly ISMA Photo Shoots, Take a Friend Snowmobiling, and many more.
David Low of Wayland, MI, was induced as a volunteer and club organizer, adventurer and explorer. David became involved in his local snowmobile club, served on several committees, and was elected to positions on local and state levels, distinguishing him as one of the most dedicated snowmobilers the Michigan Snowmobile Association has ever known. He has participated in extensive snowmobile adventures of thousands of miles, including rides in the US and Canada and the World Tour Ride of 4000+ miles. All these adventures were done as fundraising events for Juvenile Diabetes Research, helping to raise more than $160,000 for that Foundation.
Craig Nicholson, Toronto, ON, was inducted as a publisher and journalist. Popularly known as “The Intrepid Snowmobiler,” Craig is a print, radio and TV journalist, social media influencer and communications consultant specializing in motorized recreational activities, especially snowmobiling. He is a high-mileage touring snowmobiler, serving as touring editor for Snow Goer Canada. His touring and tips articles have appeared in a variety of publications. Craig syndicated Intrepid Snowmobiler on radio and had a regular presence on Snowmobiler Television for many years. He has been an influential and passionate advocate for, and defender of snowmobiling since the 1980s.
Also recognized at the induction ceremony in Eagle River, WI, were Snowmobile Club of the Year, the Rome Sno-Bandits of Rome, WI; and Snowmobile Dealer of the Year, Track Side of Eagle River, WI.
The ISHOF is dedicated to recognizing those who have made snowmobiling what it is today. For more information, see https://www.ishof.com/

Unfortunately, snowmobiling lost a very dedicated member days before his 57th birthday. Kevin Lehse from South Haven, MN passed away August 9th, 2022, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Many of you maybe never met Kevin, but he was at your events and went to just about everything associated with snowmobiling, be it a grass drag or swap meet in the summer; or to a antique or vintage or current snowmobile show in the wintertime; and you may have seen him on the trail riding something really cool, or self-made; or maybe you are wearing, or will wear at some point this season, some t-shirt art he designed.
Kevin was all about snowmobiling 24-7 as he worked at Koronis Parts in Paynesville and had access to all those snowmobile parts, and all those snowmobiles, for a job; and then once he got home from work, there were more snowmobiles at home to fix, improve, or collect. And he did all of them well.
Kevin was multi-talented and had the right mental attitude not to get to upset if something wasn’t right, pretty calm, cool and collected.
And that helped Kevin when he had to deal with his first bout of cancer with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma when he was 26. He fought that with the right attitude and won. Then in 2016, Kevin was diagnosed with a rare form of adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia and was given a 25% chance of survival. Calm, cool and collected, he survived that! And with a lot of support from his snowmobile community, Chaska Sno-Hawks did a fundraiser that helped defer the costs of his continued care.
Kevin was a member of SnoHaven Drift Demons Snowmobile Club, the Antique Snowmobile Society, and the Antique Snowmobile Club of America and a committee member, along with me, of the Midwest Vintage Snowmobile Shows WaconiaRide In, now called the Midwest Ride-In, hence the artwork for the T-shirts.
So, my hats off to you, Mr. Calm, Cool and Collected. What a great ride (literally) it has been.
Cor PowerSports is eager to get another great season of cross country snowmobile racing underway in 2023. This winter will be the third season since Cor PowerSports bought out “USXC” and became the premier cross country racing series in the region. The series offers a class for everyone from the premier Pro Factory Stock 600 class to Junior 10-13 Girls, to vintage class. If you own a snowmobile, there is a class for you. The 2023 schedule consists of seven rounds all in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
In 2023, there will be a new season opener and it will be held in January rather than December as it has been in years past. The event will be held in Ottertail, Minnesota and will be a plowed ice race on January 7-8.
Round two of the season will take the series back to a fan favorite; Nisswa, Minnesota for the Nisswa 100. This race will be a terrain race with ice backup and last season was the roughest most entertaining races on the schedule. It also saw a first time Pro Stock winner last season.
Round three will take teams to Park Rapids for the annual Heartland 200 presented by Park Rapids Lakes Area Convention and Visitor Bureau. This race will be a terrain race including parts of the Paul Bunyan Trail with an ice backup.
Round four is the iconic Goodridge-Grygla I-500 presented by Goodridge/Grygla snowmobile clubs. This race is the most prestigious race on the schedule and is at the top of all of the racers’ win bucket list.
Race five of 2023 is another new event, the Leech Lake 200 presented by Lakes Area Powersports in Walker, Minnesota. The race will challenge racers with a 100- to 120-mile terrain course that features: lake, river, fire roads, ditches, and snowmobile trails with a lake backup if snow conditions don’t allow terrain.
Round seven will take teams to Naytahwaush, Minnesota for the annual Snodeo 200 presented by the Naytahwaush Nightriders. This track is unique as it is an unplowed ice race. The course gets rough in some spots and down to the ice in others.
The season finale will be the Battle at Whitecap presented by Jay’s Power Center in Upson, Wisconsin. This event is a ski-hill-style course with a terrain backup. This will also be the venue for the year-end banquet.
In 2022, Zach Herfindahl from Eagle River, Wisconsin was the Pro Factory Stock 600 and Pro Open champion, making that his 12th combined pro championship on his Arctic Cat. Both Semi Pro class champs were from Roseau, Minnesota and won on Polaris machines. Evan Peppel won the Semi Pro Factory Stock 600 class, while Boe Bunke won the Semi Pro Improved class.
Numerous other class champions were crowned at the end of last season and will either move up the ranks or, depending on their age, stay in the same class and try to defend their title. The two Semi Pro champs must move up to the Pro ranks the following season and the two Sport champs must move up to the Semi Pro ranks. This makes for some great racing with class rookies.
Cor PowerSports and the whole crew is ready for the snow to fly and see 100+ mph action again this winter!
The Rum River Sno-Riders had their Outlaw Grass Drags and Swap Meet Friday – Saturday August 26th 27th, just west of 169 and on the outskirts of Princeton. The weather was good for a nice summer event. The racing was hot and heavy, like the air a bit, with a shout-out to Velocity Race Management, Kids Pro Ice and the Minnesota Lawn Mower Association providing the racing action. The Midwest Ride-In provided a spectacular display of Memory Lane sleds, and the vintage sleds were in abundance, with the People’s Choice going to some really nice triples provided by Valdi Stefanson. But, it’s like Perkins, food is great, but we all came for the … ‘pie’. In this case it’s the swap.
The swap was out of this world this year for finds, like this awesome barn-find orange FoxTrac sled. The owner drained the gas, put new gas in, and swears it started right up. And the 1966 Herter’s, one of about 5 known to exist, nicely kept in the trailer. Or the 1974 Herter’s Sno Falcon finding a new owner; or brand-new motorcycle engines in the crate! And don’t forget the newly restored Antique Snowmobile Club of America’s Eskimo. Gotta love the baby blue.
The MnUSA booth had good activity both days. Pictured at left is MnUSA member Jerry Nelson who stopped by the booth to renew his MnUSA membership like so many others did over the weekend.
Clubs in Region 6 have been busy with fun activities with their members being picnics, drive and dines, or just meeting for happy hour, and so much more. One club that likes to have fun is East Cottage Grove Scramblers. They have already started planning for their Dust ‘em Off event in January. And then to show off their hard work and fun they designed a float to show off the club at the Cottage Grove Strawberry Festival! What a great representation for the club, and guess what? They took Best of Show...congratulations!
County. Check out their Facebook page for dates on the raffle which is held at Carbones in Cottage Grove. With the price of meat now a days, winning is like finding gold bars.
East Cottage Grove
Let’s not forget about Star Trail and their monthly Meat Raffle which helps raise money to preserve, protect and promote snowmobiling and provide safe, designated, and maintained trails within Washington
Lakeville has continued with their Drive and Dine; the club picks a map sponsor restaurant each month, then about 15-20 people come to “Wine and Dine” to support the restaurant. The establishments love it.
