Reflections from Our Natural World March 9 – May 2, 2022 Reedy Gallery Artists Kathleen Krishnan, Alison Price and Mary Welke derive their visual cues from nature. Their work serves as a reminder: If we look closely, nature can inspire awe with her beauty, provide solace, conjure memories and educate us. The artists’ varying paths using color, form and textural qualities result in a whole that makes us more deeply explore our relationship with the natural world.

A R T I S T S TAT E M E N T

Kathleen Krishnan Kathleen Krishnan paints sunshine filtering through fields and wildflowers backed by distant horizons. Her paintings evoke a feeling of being out in nature. Her fields and native plants bring us back to our intrinsic and comforting relationship with the natural world. Although exuberantly detailed, her paintings emanate calm.

Krishnan’s work is part of numerous public and private collections including St. Mary’s University, Midco Corporation, Health Partners, Regions Hospital, Hennepin County Medical Center and many more.

Krishnan co-owns and exhibits her work at Tres Leches Gallery in the historic Northrup King Building in the Arts District of Northeast Minneapolis.

A R T I S T S TAT E M E N T

Alison Price Alison Price holds a BA in Studio Art from Augsburg College and an MA in Studio Art from the University of Wisconsin. A child of immigrants, Price’s art is often framed from that of the outsider and a newcomer to the United States. Price is passionate about the intersections of art, history, current events, culture and community.

Price’s art is collected nationally and internationally, including collections at the new FBI Headquarters in Brooklyn Center, Capital One, Sons of Norway, Reignite the Soul, and BKV Group. This series, “Witnessing Waves,” aired on the PBS award winning series MN Original on November 18, 2018. The Mississippi and Minnesota confluence and its stories continue to inspire the artist.

Price’s works in this show are from her “Witnessing Waves” series. “The Mississippi River Gorge and her wealth of heritage trees has always intrigued me,” Price writes. “This series pays respect to these gentle witnesses of migration and settlement along our mighty river, these magnificent, steadfast trees. The trees acknowledge the contribution of all of our respective backgrounds and ancestries. It is our collective heritage that makes this place a culturally rich and diverse place to call home.”

Mary Welke Mary Welke’s meditative birch paintings bring serenity. Her sense of composition evokes a space, but not necessarily a physical space where one could walk along a woodland path. She creates an emotional space where we can wander. It is within this inner space that we are intertwined with nature, at our most basic level, and where for Mary, the distinct beauty of birch trees reign.

Welke’s art reminds us to breathe deeply.
