We are awed and amazed at the effort and dedication of the Grupo Reinhold team who together have so brilliantly translated the theme of this year’s Holiday Book, the Skies of Puerto Rico, into the pages you see before you- not even the sky is their limit. Our photographer, Xavier García, captured the natural beauty of the landscape and skies of our island with his wonderful eye for the magic of nature. A SPECIAL APPRECIATION Hacienda Candelaria in Yauco has been operated as a coffee plantation since the 19th century. Originally founded by the Piovanetti family of Corsican descent, its lands have yielded coffee enjoyed the world over. During the beginning of the 20th century the hacienda was owned by the Firm G. Linas & Compañía, suppliers of coffee to the Vatican. In its current state Hacienda Candelaria covers 240 acres of virgin forest, coffee orchards, plantain fields as well as state of the art coffee processing facilities. The current owners are the families of Luis Muñiz Viera, Carlos Muñiz Cotte, Jean Paul Juliá Díaz and Antonio A. Hernández Almodóvar who have committed to extend Hacienda Candelaria’s legacy into the 21st century.

This newfound appreciation is a gift- the smell of the ocean during sunrise, the warmth of the sunset on our skin, and the song of the Coquí lulling us to sleep under the bright moon. We are the audience for the breathtaking beauty which exists under the protection of the expansive sky. We cannot think of a more perfect theme to represent the creativity, art, and natural wonder of the designers represented in this year’s holiday book than the Skies of Puerto Rico. As La Borinqueña so eloquently sings, the Puerto Rican sky provides the perfect canopy for the island below. As the sky holds infinite possibilities, unique to each of us, so does a piece of jewelry. Jewelry is the embodiment of a dream, a hope, a boundless future. It starts with the designer holding a gemstone in their hand, envisioning the artistry to follow. It ends when we find our hopes, dreams, commitments, and connections in these wearable works of art and we make them our own. FEATURED ARTIST Muralist and painter Alexis Díaz have received international acclaim for the subjects of his representations such as chimerical creatures in a state of metamorphosis, combinations of animals, organic shapes, and natural elements that are inspired by the ecosystem that surrounds each particular work. Díaz’s technique is unique, and his creations are almost entirely freehand by employing thousands, but detailed and precise, brushstrokes with Chinese ink. During his high school years, Díaz studied plastic arts at the Central de Artes Visuales in Santurce and, in 2008, he obtained his bachelor’s degree from the Escuela de Artes Plásticas in Old San Juan, two of the most recognized educational institutions of fine arts in Puerto Rico. Díaz exploration of urban art began in 2010 with the creation of various murals across the Santurce neighborhood and, two years after, he co-founded and curated the first festival of urban art in the Island called “Los Muros Hablan” (“the walls speak”), which was celebrated for three consecutive years (2012, 2013 and 2014) and elevated urban art to a new level in Puerto Rico. Since then, Díaz has painted over 50 murals on different walls outside the United States, including cities such as Berlin, Hong Kong, London, Montreal, São Paulo, and Vienna. Other countries to which he has been invited to paint are Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Korea, Cuba, Denmark, Spain, France, Italy, Mexico, Poland, Slovakia, and Tunisia. In the United States, Díaz has worked on murals in cities such as Arizona, Arkansas, Atlanta, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Oregon, Sacramento, and Virginia.
