The two police officers involved in the shooting death of Jamar Clark in November 2015 followed procedure and won’t be disciplined, the Minneapolis Police Department announced Friday. MPD Chief Janee Harteau said the decision came after an exhaustive internal investigation surrounding the officers — Mark Ringgenberg and Dustin Schwarze — involved in the shooting death of Jamar Clark, according to a news release. “I have concluded the use of deadly force in the line of duty was necessar y to protect an officer from apparent death or great bodily harm,” she said in the release. “We have concluded there were no u See DECISION Page 4

Gophers defeat Rutgers in Homecoming game President Kaler Despite poor defensive play, the Gophers secured a tight, 34-32 victory against Rutgers, Friday. BY JACK WHITE jwhite@mndaily.com
The University president also discussed the school’s initiatives for low-income students.
What should’ve been an easy game for the Gophers against Rutgers Saturday came down to Emmit Carpenter in the last minute of the game. The redshirt sophomore scored a lastminute 28-yard field goal, and Minnesota’s defense hung on for six seconds afterwards to win the Gophers’ homecoming game by a tight score of 34-32. “Those kids battled back and made the plays we needed to make, and [Carpenter] missed the first field goal, but definitely made up for it on that last one,” said head coach Tracy Claeys. “So we’re thrilled to win, obviously, for homecoming weekend, and we’ll enjoy this one until midnight, and we’ll get started tomorrow.” Senior Drew Wolitarsky gave Rutgers a chance and the Gophers a scare when he muffed a punt late in the fourth quarter. The ball was recovered by Rutgers senior Isaiah Johnson on the Gophers’ 23-yard line. The turnover led to a Rutgers field goal and the Scarlet Knights’ first lead in the game. u See FOOTBALL Page 6

Burnett’s position is a new one, created by melding the offices of vice president of finance and vice president for University ser vices.
