URBAN ADAPTATION CONCEPT: IMBRICATED FRAMEWORK Year: 3rd - Undergrad - Spring '18 Duration: 12 Weeks Location: Washington D.C. Condition: Activation, Interaction Program: Embassy (Lobby+Gallery+Courtyard +Offices+Housing) The concept of an imbricated framework stems from a strict analasys of the context, specicially the primary and seconday grids of Washington D.C. to formally and spatially frame the site. This project analyzes how the traditionally private embassy program can be flipped into a hub of public interaction. The first move is to create a completely public courtyard space by lifting the private program (offices and residences) off of the ground floor, allowing porous entry into the courtyard. The second move was to flank the opposite sides with a two story public lobby and gallery space for a truly public embassy. The third move was to pay homage to traditional Italian architecture by adding a column front combined with cerimonial steps that dual as a seating around the aquarium for added public intrigue. The big move was to resolve the 2 grid system of D.C. by rotating the residences to align with L'Enfant's diagonal grid.

COASTAL MUTANT CONCEPT: SPATIAL INTERLOCK Year: 2nd - Undergrad - Spring '17 Duration: 4 Weeks Location: Gulf Coast, Texas Condition: Free Standing, Elevated Program: House + Studio This project is a house and studio for a painter. The main aspect that shaped the parti sketches because of the client's unique form of transportation: a hot air balloon. There as an inherent need to achieve height (to launch and land on the structure) without turning the project into a tower. Through this, the objective of a mutant was investigaed spatially: mutating single volumes into double volumes. The main goal is to inspire the sensation one would feel when entering a double volume from a single volume with the explosion of space. Then, as one would ascend to the second floor of the double volume, move through the single volume space to arrive at the bottom floor of another double volume. This is then repeated and mutated to achieve the neccesary height for the hot air balloon.
We define architecctural mutants as harmful or helpful but permannent alterations of an original type. Basic geometres will be modified as a continuous process of mutation. While shape, apperance and spatial qualitites will change, the original type has to stay the same. Different models of the same type will be created.

ALPINE HYBRID CONCEPT: ADAPTIVE TOPOGRAPHIES Year: 2nd - Undergrad - Spring '17 Duration: 5 Weeks Location: The Alps, Austria Condition: Excavate, Merge Program: Shared site with two orther clients, House + Studio The project combines three artists on the same site while having three independent structures that join at a central courtyard. Shear winds into the side of the mounton from the north side of the courtyard.. The plan was dirived from the curvature of the topography and lines in tension that creates a unique undulating plan that is able to a enclose a west facing exterior space providing for ideal vistas. The elevation and he use of clerestory windows were dirived from the overwhelming need to bring in diffused light to protect the paintings all over the western facing house.
The basic character of hybrid asks for the combination of at least two different types. These two types will be building and landscape that will be merged together to form a greater whole consisting of the idea of common ground around and within the building.

RIVERSIDE DECAMPMENT CONCEPT: SPATIAL INTERLOCK+ FRAMED VIEWS Year: 4th Semester: Spring '19 Duration: 3 Weeks Location: New Braunfeuls, Tx Condition: Excavate, Overlap Program: House + Music Room + Studio + Gallery + Library + Pool & Sauna
This project is a studio + house for Tara Donovan, a successful contemporary artist who inherited a house on the Comal River. She is moving from New York and is looking for this to be a distraction from that hectic life. This is to be a space for her to relex and create, but aslo entertain and exhibit.
The lost is linear, 44'x180', with a 30' drop from streetside to riverfront. The flood plane is 10' below street level allowing for entrance into a double volume. This project's parti was generated in section due to the context and focuses on spatial flexibility without strictly programming. The programmatic layout vertically stratifies the private/ public relationship with the most private at the top. The heiarchy of spaces and views s given to both the public and private programmatic elemetns. The building is pulled into 2 seperate buildings, providing a coutryard type extior space.
Structurally, this project is 29' feet wide so the floor plates provide enough support to carry the collumns that are placed externally, allowing for free plan.
ARTISTIC ENDEAVOURS CONCEPT: PROGRAMMATIC GESTALT Year: 3rd - Undergrad - Fall '17 Duration: 8 Weeks Location: Dallas Arts District Condition: Combine, Activate Program: Public Arts Complex (Auditorium + Studio + Ramp)
This conceptual project focuses on the bringing of a new use of space: a space for the public to engage and create art. The site is in the middle of the Dallas Arts District which has spaces for the public to consume art, but there is no space for them to learn and create art in a public forum. This project emphasizes every medium of art (2D, 3D, spoken word, music, theatre, etc.) and does not focus on one over another. The program combines auditorium, recording studio, lecture halls, and art studios; and a main ramp for circulation and exterior space, gives the public a space to truly make their mark in the culture of the city. The focus of the site design is to situate the two towers in a public courtyard that would further activate the space.
The idea behind programmatic gestalt questions the traditional combinations of spaces we occupy and is the rearrangement of already known programmatic elements that lead to a new, intenful, use of space.
This context model was made through a three step process: 1) 3-D Printing the original model 2) Casting molds 3) Casting bronze-dusted resin
SOCIETAL LOGOS CONCEPT: PROGRAMMATIC GESTALT Year: 4th Semester: Fall '18 Duration: 10 Weeks Location: Dallas City Hall Condition: Combine, Activate Program: Lobbying Complex (Library+Recording+Auditorium)
The essence of lobbying is influencing the government. This project is an example of how a public interaction with government buildings can activate spaces as well as push forward political discussion. The emphasis is on the giving the voice back to the people by providing spaces for research, recording and dissemenation of policy information. The project utilizes the use of exterior and interior public space, providing ample ground floor and terrace space. The goal is to be a programmatic objet type that should be placed at every legislative body.
The idea behind programmatic gestalt questions the traditional combinations of spaces we occupy and is the rearrangement of already known programmatic elements that lead to a new, intenful, use of space.

PROJECT I CONCEPT: SECTIONS + SURFACES
Year: 4th Semester: Fall '18 Duration: 4 Weeks Programs Used: Rhino Method: Laser Cutter + Assembly
Using the program rhino and the laser cutter, double curved surfaces were crafed, then surfaces were developed in 3 different ways: 1) The crafting linear, intersecting strips to show the double curvature. 2) The use of single curved strips to show the double curved surface. 3) Single planes were developed by using meshes, and through that process, reducing the number of neccesary planes required to express the double curved surface.
PROJECT II CONCEPT: SERIAL PARAMETRIC OBJECTS
Year: 4th Semester: Fall '18 Duration: 2 Weeks Programs Used: Rhino + Grasshopper Method: 3-D Printing
This project focused on creating a double curved surface using parametric design and an adiditave process of 3d printing. Parametric design is a process based using algorithimic thinking that expresses the use of paramaters, often called rules based design, that show different methods of assembly and breakdown of groupings.
PROJECT III CONCEPT: CONTROUTED SURFACES
Year: 4th Semester: Fall '18 Duration: 2 Weeks Programs Used: Rhino + RhinoCam Method: CNC Milling
This project focused on creating a double curved surface using the subtractive process of 2.5 axis milling. The intent is to develop a surface that could only be created by this method, for intance, using multiple types of passes and using different tools create unique and sometimes unexpexted patterns. This method can be utilized to create a surface, or to create a mold for casting.
PROJECT IV CONCEPT: FACETED ASSEMBLIES
Year: 4th Semester: Fall '18 Duration: 4 Weeks Programs Used: Rhino + RhinoCam Method: Plama Cutting
This project focused on how to create a multi-faced object using sheets of metal and folding it. This project went through a series of iterations to get the shape and assembly correct. The intent of the design was to have the object cantilever and have the ability to sit on the two smallest surfaces.
MADAME BUTTERFLY HELEN FRANKENTHALER, 2000 102 COLOR WOODCUT
Year: 3rd Semester: Fall '17 Duration: 3 Weeks Condition: Precedent Research
This exercise focused on analyzing a two dimensional piece of art and through the use of verbs, develop a three dimensional artifact. This process started with extensive diagramatic hand sketching to develop an understanding of the work. Then, the drawings were made digital for further the level of detail to bring the line drawing into three dimensional form. The verbs, erosion, of mapping, and of gravity were selected after a formal analasys was concluded to begin to morph and change the original work.
