Morereasonsto smile... www.the-skinclinic.co.uk www.the-dentalspa.co.uk According to arecent report on BBC Scotland, The “sophisticated art” of making dentures is being lost due to alack of practice because fewer patients now need false teeth. Across the UK as awhole, the number of people over the age of 70 with some natural teeth has increased from 20% to 80% in the space of 40 years. Historically the most effective way to deal with potential tooth problems would be to take people’s teeth out. Several decades ago, there had also been atrend for people to have all their teeth removed in their late teens or early 20s -even when most of them werestill healthy,to remove the financial burden in the future. In the intervening 40 years, however, wholesale tooth extraction doesn’thappen any more. Dentistry has got better and morereliable as techniques improve meaning that many dentists, having learned how to make dentures unfortunately, don’t get to practice their skills often. At the Dental Spa we arelucky to have aClinical Dental Technician working alongside
our team of skilled clinicians. Ian Taylor is a dental technician with many years experience bringing those skills to aclinical setting. He is able to treatment patients directly, onsite, thus removing the need to send impressions through the post causing delays and instructions that get lost in translation between the dentist and remote technician. Ian makes your dentures from impression to fitting with all the stages in between meaning the patient truly gets involved with all aspects of the final appearance.
