ChrisNuttall,PEteacher at Fred Longworth High School in Tyldesley,Wigan,who taught Toone from Year 9toYear11, said he saw Toone’spotential at school and “could tell”she wouldachieve great success in football

Theteacher said it wasa“surreal”experiencewatchingToone scorethe openinggoalinthe Sydneytriumph,but felt hersuccess wasexpected aftershe demonstrated strong sporting ability at school

Nuttal,38, told thePAnews agency:“It’s surrealtosee Ella play in theWorld Cupsemi-final, butit’s brilliantnow (England)havegot through to the final.

“For myself and the rest of the department,it’snot asurprise for us because theway Ella conducted herself andhow passionate shewas about football throughoutschool, you couldsee how determined she was.

“You couldtellshe wasgoing to go onto greatthingsinterms of her football career.”

Nuttallalso describedthe 23-year-oldasa“role model”,beginnning at herold high school aftershe encouraged more girlsto pickupsports.

He explained: “She wasthe type of studentthatwas adream for aPE teacherbecause shewas involved in anything,any sport.

“She wasarolemodel in whichever sportthatshe did.

“She wasabig starting point andnow we runanumberofgirls’ teamsand we have alot of girlsjoin football teams, andthatall started from Ella.”
