There is a reason why the Texas State University School of Music is ranked among the top five in the country. Our students have the opportunity to study their craft with more than 80 faculty who are accomplished musicians and passionate about teaching the next generation of music talent. Members of our faculty have won 11 Grammy Awards and received 15 Grammy nominations. The talent in the School of Music spans across genres, with over 30 student ensembles including a symphony orchestra, six choral groups, opera, marching band, jazz bands, a rock ensemble, salsa bands, mariachi groups, and 12 smaller instrumental ensembles. Collectively, they perform more than 300 public concerts each year and compete nationally at the highest levels.

• Produces numerous certified music educators in Texas; 308 now teaching

• Students are accepted through highly competitive auditions with admissions offered to approximately 35% of the applicant pool

• Students benefit from a liberal arts education boasting the breadth of course offerings at a research university

• 2,000 non-music majors enroll in music classes, and 200 of them participate in ensembles

• Hosts University Interscholastic League music

• Hosts renowned Texas State International Piano Festival

• Presents 300 public concerts annually for K-12 schools, retirement communities, special needs populations, and general public audiences

Produces the Hill Country Jazz Festival, Eddie Durham Jazz Celebration, Feria del Mariachi, the International Choral Conducting Symposium in partnership with Austin-based Conspirare, and more
