Texas State University is committed to providing opportunities for students to reach their full potential and be prepared for the complexities of the global workforce with skills enabling them to engage with a diversity of people and ideas, and worldwide perspectives. Student global engagement can be achieved through education abroad programs, which is a great way to connect Texas State students with the world.

The mission of the Education Abroad Program at Texas State University is to support the comprehensive internationalization plan of Texas State University by providing safe, accessible, academically dynamic, geographically diverse, and culturally enriching global educational experiences to our students.

The program provides students in all areas of academic interest and levels a variety of educational choices abroad. The International Education Fee (IEF) Scholarship program assists in that mission by making funds available to qualified students who want to participate in Education Abroad.

How You Can Help

In an increasingly globalized world, education abroad is now more important than ever. Studying abroad gives Texas State students the opportunity to experience new places and cultures, create connections from around the world, and gain a global perspective–while earning academic credits towards their degree.

Ief Scholarship

The IEF Scholarship is distributed through a competition open to all undergraduate and graduate Texas State students who meet the established eligibility requirements and want to study abroad. Each year Texas State students receive this scholarship, with about $300,000 available annually for education abroad.

Once IEF Scholars have completed their education abroad programs and are back in Texas, they must complete a Follow-On Service Project to help promote international education and expand the impact of the IEF Scholarship Program. Their project and can be a presentation, a photo submission, or volunteer service.

The IEF Scholarship Committee awards scholarships to students on the basis of GPA, financial need, length of program, and prior IEFS awards for education abroad experiences. Often the number of applications exceeds the amount of award funds available, and therefore, not every applicant will receive a scholarship. In the recent years, the average award per student have been $1,500 for the fall or spring semesters and $1,000 for the summer session.
