WINTER 2022
Longtime friends are the family that we choose This statement could not be truer than when applied to MMI classmates Cory Coll ‘60, Frank Castrina ‘60, and Bob Kettrick ‘60. The “Three Amigos,” as they refer to themselves, have been gallivanting around the globe together since 1963 when they took their first trip during the summer before their senior year of college. Over 58 years ago, that first drive to the Seattle, Washington, World’s Fair set in motion a friendship that has spanned the decades and many continents. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, the Three Amigos were forced to cancel some of their travel plans but they remained in contact by connecting via video chats every other week for the past two years. They then returned to action this fall for a cruise on the Columbia River from September 27 through October 4. Cory and Anne Coll, Frank and Judy Castrina, and Bob and Eileen Kettrick flew, separately, to Portland and met in the hotel affiliated with the cruise. They boarded their ship in Vancouver, Washington, and set off on the Columbia River. The ship, the American Empress, measured 360 feet with five towering decks and accommodated 223 guests. The American Empress sails the Columbia River and Snake River. Ports of call on their trip included Astoria and Stevenson, Washington; The Dalles and Umatilla, Oregon; and Richland, Washington.
