MMA Annual Convention: Betting on the Future - How India can make this decade its own - 12 Mar 2022

Context and Objectives of the Convention As India emerges from the first two waves of Covid and braces itself for an endemic future, it is presented with the opportunity to make giant leaps forward over the next decade. There are many encouraging signs – return of domestic consumption, sizeable investments/capex, young & tech savvy workforce, increasingly supportive policies and entrepreneurial energy among Indian corporates (both old and new) – to lay the foundations to realize this opportunity.

However, this opportunity also comes with a set of challenges that India and the rest of the world must contend with. This includes addressing the war for talent that has intensified over the past year and protecting the environment for future generations. Many players in the industry have gone back to the drawing board on how they should navigate these forces and emerge stronger.

With these themes in mind, this year's convention will focus on discussing the key issues that underpin India's ability to deliver on its promise: -

Special Session 1 The Future of Work Over the past year, the world has seen big shifts in the workforce – accelerating digitization & automation, the normalization of remote working and spike in attrition & cost of talent. In addition, the pandemic has impacted the most vulnerable sections of the workforce the hardest.

This session will cover questions that explore what the 'Future of work' entails: -

How can India move away from being a low wage economy?

Special Session 2 The Future of Technology Over the past few decades, India's Technology Service providers have been an integral part of global Digital story. They have been pioneers of driving technology, digital and data transformations in enterprises. However, with technology/digital becoming synonymous with the core strategy of companies, even non-technology companies will need to build the talent and capabilities to lead the technology agenda.

This session will explore the 'Future of technology' in the context of enterprises:- What can be manufacturing companies learn from technology services and software companies?

- What is the role of 'as-a-Service' and platform models for traditional industries?

- What are the innovations that will shape industry over the next decade?

Special Session 3 The Future of Sustainability Sustainability has become a critical CEO agenda, with many companies taking on bold aspirations such as net zero emissions.

Over the past few years, many of India's leading Industrial players have made large capital investments into Sustainability.

However, there is still more to be done in this area in order to manage the challenges related to climate change, water scarcity, resource availability and waste management.

This session will explore the 'Future of sustainability' and how India can best adapt to climate change: - What are critical sustainability imperatives for India?

- How can we leapfrog to develop world-leading sustainability technologies?

- What is the role that different types of players can play in the eco-system (e.g., real estate vs technology vs manufacturing vs services companies)?

- How can we change attitudes and behaviors at-scale to accelerate progress on the sustainability agenda?
