development and energy transition. The drive is on ‘clean energy’ and mindful utilization, rather than mindless consumption. Milestones Over the past 66 years, MMA has evolved and grown under the able guidance of Past Presidents, Managing Committee Members and MMA Secretariat. MMA has once again been ranked as the prestigious “Best Management Association in India” for the year 2020-21—12th time in a row! It is your support and patronage that makes achieving such milestones possible. Some of the initiatives during the year include: • Inauguration of the 10th MMA chapter: MMA inaugurated the 10th Chapter in Chengalpet at the Mahindra World City on 22nd March 2022. This is in keeping with our goal to enhance our outreach programmes for MSMEs in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. We look forward to organising programmes in the regional language (Tamil) for a better reach and connect with the local entrepreneurs. • Digital transformation and E-library: Following the success and popularity of the digital edition of MMA Business Mandate, we released the MMA Annual Report in the web format during the 65th AGM. The report was presented in an interactive and engaging format with detailed information about all our events and activities with embedded videos. o MMA revamped its website and automated the internal flow of back-end processes, to provide members a seamless and user-friendly digital experience.

Dear Members, My Greetings to all of you! It has been an extraordinary year for all of us, and in good time we have put behind the pandemic as a bad dream.

o With support from Konrad Adeneur Stiftung, we have upgraded the MMA-KAS Library to provide over 3000 e-books on management; members can log in and read.

On behalf of the Managing Committee, I am honoured to present to you the 66th Annual Report and Audited Statement of Accounts of the Madras Management Association for the year ended 31st March, 2022.

o We have partnered with EBSCO for more than 1.4 million electronic content assets from more than 320 universities around the world. The service will be totally complimentary to our members.

Growth drivers of the economy Realigning itself with global market scenarios and geopolitical crises, India Inc. is confident of wading its way through. Sustainability is the key to the overall development of the economy; in fact, Budget 2022 has been high on sustainability. With normality restored and business picking up, the growth forecast has been positive for the Indian economy in the postpandemic phase. Although the Ukraine war is sure to have an impact on India’s economy, the revised forecast comes on an optimistic note.

• Start-up series: Many Indian startups fail early due to various challenges. To address these challenges, MMA started a “Start-up Series” hosted by Mr Shankar, Founder, CAMS. Under this unique initiative, a number of young successful entrepreneurs are invited to share their experience. • MMA Women Business Forum: Since May 2021, the Forum has invited a number of women leaders to share their success stories, challenges and life experiences. I am thankful to Ms Mythili Chandrasekar, Ms Babita Baruah and Dr Lata Kumar for all the effort in making monthly event a grand success among our women members, management professionals and students.

Independent Auditors’ Report Members of Madras Management Association Fountainhead of Excellence

Opinion We have audited the financial statements of MADRAS MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION (the “Association”), which comprise the Balance Sheet as on 31 March 2022, and the Income and Expenditure Account for the year then ended, and a summary of significant accounting policies. In our opinion and to the best of our information and according to the explanations given to us, the aforesaid financial statements give a true and fair view of the financial position of the Association as on 31 March 2022, and of its financial performance for the year then ended in accordance with the Accounting Standard issued by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and other generally accepted accounting principles in India. Basis for Opinion We conducted our audit in accordance with the Standards on Auditing (SAs) issued by ICAI. Our responsibilities under those standards are further described in the Auditor’s Responsibilities for the Audit of the Financial Statements section of our report. We are independent of the Association in accordance with the Code of Ethics issued by ICAI and we have fulfilled our other ethical responsibilities in accordance with the Code of Ethics. We believe that the audit evidence obtained by us is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our audit opinion. Information Other than the Financial Statements and Auditor’s Report The Association’s Management is responsible for the other information. The other information comprises the information included in the Annual report, but does not include the financial statements and our auditor’s report thereon. Our opinion on the financial statements do not cover the other information and we will not express any form of assurance conclusion thereon. In connection with our audit of the financial statements, our responsibility is to read the other information identified above when it becomes available and, in doing so, consider whether the other information is materially inconsistent with the financial statements or our knowledge obtained during the course of our audit or otherwise appears to be materially misstated. When we read the Annual report if we conclude that there is a material misstatement therein, we are required to communicate the matter to those charged with governance as required under SA 720 ‘The Auditor’s responsibilities Relating to Other Information. Responsibilities of Management and Those Charged with Governance for the Financial Statements: Association’s Management is responsible for the preparation of these financial statements that give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Association and financial performance of the Association in accordance with the accounting principles generally accepted in India. This responsibility includes safeguarding the assets of the Company and for preventing and detecting frauds and other irregularities; selection and application of appropriate accounting policies; making judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; and design, implementation, and maintenance of adequate internal financial control relevant to the preparation and presentation of the financial statements that give a true and fair view and are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error. In preparing the financial statements, management is responsible for assessing the Association’s ability to continue as a going concern, disclosing, as applicable, matters related to going concern and using the going concern basis of accounting unless management either intends to liquidate the Association or to cease operations, or has no realistic alternative but to do so.Those charged with governance are responsible for overseeing the Association’s financial reporting process. Auditor’s Responsibilities for the Audit of the Financial Statements: Our objectives are to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements, as a whole, are free from material misstatement, whether due to fraud or error, and to issue an auditor’s report that includes our opinion. Reasonable assurance is a high level of assurance but is not a guarantee that an audit conducted in accordance with SAs will always detect a material misstatement when it exists. Misstatements can arise from fraud or error and are considered material if, individually or in the aggregate, they could reasonably be expected to influence the economic decisions of users taken on the basis of these financial statements. As part of an audit in accordance with SAs, we exercise professional judgment and maintain professional skepticism throughout the audit. We also: •

Identify and assess the risks of material misstatement of the financial statements, whether due to fraud or error, design and perform audit procedures responsive to those risks, and obtain audit evidence that is sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our opinion. The risk of not detecting a material misstatement resulting from fraud is higher than for one resulting from error, as fraud may involve collusion, forgery, intentional omissions, misrepresentations, or the override of internal financial control.

•

Obtain an understanding of internal financial control relevant to the audit in order to design audit procedures that are appropriate in the circumstances, but not for the purpose of expressing an opinion on the effectiveness of the Association’s internal financial control.

•

Evaluate the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting estimates and related disclosures made by management.

•

Conclude on the appropriateness of management’s use of the going concern basis of accounting and, based on the audit evidence obtained, whether a material uncertainty exists related to events or conditions that may cast significant doubt on the Association’s ability to continue as a going concern. If we conclude that a material uncertainty exists, we are required to draw attention in our auditor’s report to the related disclosures in the financial statements or, if such disclosures are inadequate, to modify our opinion. Our conclusions are based on the audit evidence obtained up to the date of our auditor’s report. However, future events or conditions may cause the Association to cease to continue as a going concern.

•

Evaluate the overall presentation, structure, and content of the financial statements, including the disclosures, and whether the financial statements represent the underlying transactions and events in a manner that achieves fair presentation.

Materiality is the magnitude of misstatements in the financial statements that, individually or in aggregate, makes it probable that the economic decisions of a reasonably knowledgeable user of the financial statements may be influenced. We consider quantitative materiality and qualitative factors in (i) Planning the scope of our audit work and in evaluating the results of our work; and (ii)To evaluate the effect of any identified misstatements in the financial statements.
