Dr. K.C.G. Verghese, a visionary and a man of action, was born on 20th June, 1940 in a small village in central Kerala. His life is the story of a man from a rural background whose far reaching vision, boundless energy and undying enthusiasm catapulted him to the pinnacle of business success.
After completing his early education in Kerala, he graduated in Mechanical Engineering and after intense training in Aviation Engineering at Cranfield University; UK, he obtained his Ph.D from U.S. He established Hindustan Engineering Training Centre in 1966 with the approval of the Government of Tamil Nadu to impart vocational training. He established Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology, a polytechnic college fully realizing the need to educate the masses for gainful employment. Later he went on establishing Institutions of higher education in Engineering & Technology, Aviation, Arts & Science, Management, etc.
Dr. K.C.G. Verghese belonged to that rare breed of individuals whose commitment to societal progress and advancement, created a vision for the future of Engineering and Technical Education in this country. He succeeded in persuading Dr M.G.Ramachandran, then Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, to privatize Professional Education in the State. The Hindustan College of Engineering was founded by Dr.K.C.G.Verghese in the year 1985 & it has been conferred the University status by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) which is celebrating its Silver Jubilee this year.
It was his forward thinking philosophy, that paved way for the introduction of the “Open Sky Policy” in India and launched the first private airline in the country 'Air Asiatic” in 1990 – a bold and farsighted move that was futuristic and far ahead of its time. Dr. K.C.G. Verghese's exemplary vision made him a man for all seasons. His benevolent nature, dedication, hard work, conviction and commitment gave him success in all his endeavors.
He was well known for his philanthropic nature which immensely helped the weaker section and downtrodden people of the society. His motto was 'To make every man a success and no man a failure”.
He authored two books and received several awards and honors in recognition of his contributions to the growth of Industry and Higher Education sectors in the country. He left for heavenly abode on 14th February, 2006. His legacy lives through the institutions he created and the communities he served.
Rajarajan, is a Distinguished Scientist and currently the Director of Satish Dhawan Space Centre SHAR (SDSC SHAR), Sriharikota, e Space Port of India. Shri A Rajarajan is an expert in the area of Composites. As a Director of Satish Dhawan Space Centre his es is on fruition of Solid Motor Production and Launch Complex Infrastructure to meet the ISRO’s increased demand of launches ng Launches for Human Space Programme (Gaganyaan) and SSLV.
Rajarajan as Director, SDSC SHAR configuring & developing state of the art Solid Motor production and launch vehicle integration es for seamless production, integration and launching of ISRO’s Satellite Launch Vehicle within a short span of time. Under his hip exclusive launch complex for Small Satellite Launch Vehicle being configured & realized.
Rajarajan, before taking over as Director, SDSC SHAR, has held the responsibility as Deputy Director of various VSSC entities from time Viz., ‘Propulsion and Space Ordinance Entity (PRSO), Aero Space Ordnance Entity (ASOE), Composites Entity (CMSE) and res Entity (STR)’. He has extensively worked in the area of design & development of composites products and played a pivotal role loping many innovative technologies for the development of composites for Satellites & Launch Vehicle sub systems.
During the year 2017, he was assigned an additional responsibility as Deputy Director of Propulsion and Space Ordinance Entity (PRSO), post PSLV C39 mission failure due to anomalous behavior of payload fairing separation system. He has steered the team with systematic review in addressing the issues & streamlined the ordnance system production methods & procedures for improving the reliability of the system along with improvement in analytical methods of systems. These systems enabled the improvements in reliable pyro separation system configuration in payload fairing and demonstrated successfully in subsequent launches.
Under his leadership as Deputy Director of Composites Entity, wide spectrums of composite products are developed like Solar Panel substrates, various types of Antennas, 5m dia. X 10.7m height Ogive Payload Fairing, intertank structure, etc.
Shri. A.Rajarajan took his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering in 1987 and joined Fiber Reinforced Plastic division of VSSC.
He has lead his team in various capacities for development of many crucial Composite products which has paved the way for Composite Technology in Indian Industries for Space programme.
Shri A Rajarajan is also actively involved in playing a key role to bring many industries as partners of ISRO for development of key technologies.
He is a recipient of ISRO Merit award in 2015, ISRO Team excellence awards in 2010, 2011 & 2015. He is a member of several professional bodies, namely ISAMPE, AeSI etc.
He is considered as a very well known speaker for his invited and plenary talks in many conferences on the subject of cutting edge technological application of composites.
He has several national and international papers in the area of composites.
