25th MMA Competition for young managers - 22 Feb 2022

Page 1

WHAT IS THE COMPETITION FOR YOUNG MANAGERS? Madras Management Association has been organizing the 'Competition for Young Managers' annually since 1996. The event aims to recognize competitive excellence among young managers and provide them with an unparalleled opportunity to hone their analytical, creative thinking, problem solving, team work and leadership skills. This is one of the foremost and hugely popular competitions exclusively meant for young managers working in public and private sector organizations. It brings disparate teams of young executives from the corporate world on a common platform to research, analyse, discuss and deliberate on a theme of contemporary managerial interest and national significance. It provides unique opportunities for young managers to demonstrate their knowledge, creativity, experience and professional prowess, grooming them to become the “Leaders of Tomorrow”. In the interest of health and safety, and in view of prevailing government norms, the 25th Young Managers Competition is scheduled to be conducted online.

ABOUT THE THEME “Betting on the future: How India can make this decade its own” As India emerges from the first two waves of Covid and braces itself for an endemic future, we are presented with an opportunity to make giant leaps forward over the next decade. There are many encouraging signs—return of domestic consumption, sizeable investments/capex, young and tech savvy workforce, increasingly supportive policies and entrepreneurial energy among Indian corporates (both old and new)—that lay the foundation to realize this opportunity. However, this opportunity also comes with a set of challenges that India and the rest of the world must contend with. This includes addressing the war for talent, which has intensified over the past year, and protecting the environment for future generations. Many players in the industry have gone back to the drawing board on how they should navigate these forces and emerge stronger. With these themes in mind, this year's convention will focus on discussing the key issues that underpin India's ability to deliver on its promise: ©

How can we make 2020s the decade of India?

©

What will the 'Future of work' entail for companies in terms of talent and work?

©

How can industries learn from tech companies in an increasingly digital world?

©

How can India adapt to climate change and leapfrog to develop world-leading sustainability technologies?

KEY POINTERS TO PARTICIPANTS The current world order has been substantially altered by the pandemic; this is bound to give rise to a new-fangled dispensation. In this state of uncertainty and despair, space has also been created for aspiring and emerging nations to regroup the talent and resources towards a better future. Can India make the cut and own the next decade? ©

Evaluate: For the past several decades India's agrarian economy was dependent on imports and consumption rather than manufacturing for exports. Do we have the wherewithal to re-design ourselves as an export oriented economy in the current decade? What does it take? How do we manage talent acquisition and retention?

©

Introspect: The climate emergency and mounting inequality are global challenges to be handled on highest priority. The pandemic has illustrated that even super powers are ill-prepared for shocks and uncertainties even of a small scale. Can we handle climate change of unimaginable consequences? Governments and businesses must work on systems transformation to balance economic growth with sustainable options

Surge Ahead: As we witness a paradigm shift of the world's view of China, and in the backdrop of a changing geopolitical situation, India could explore and exploit the opportunities to its advantage. It is time for India to regain its lost glory. We may have missed the industrial revolution but have caught up quite early with digital revolution. We have the demographic advantage, the scientific temper and indomitable spirit to surge ahead, provided there is a good plan for the next decade.
