THE PLATFORM
Among the set of disruptions and technologies shaping the future, AI is foremost in among them which is changing the rules of the game across nearly every industry It is already the main driver of emerging technologies like big data, robotics and Internet of Things (IoT), and it will continue to act as a technological innovator for the foreseeable future.
AI enables systems to encapsulate cognitive functions along with adaptive and learning capabilities for accomplishing specific tasks by processing large amounts of data and recognizing patterns in the data, which may be too complicated for humans.
Some common everyday applications today include Gmail email filters (into Primary, Social, Promotions, …), Pinterest's LENS tool to identify objects in images, Google predictive searches, Spotify's music recommendations, amongst many others. The capabilities and impact of AI is only expected to expand over the near future, with Deloitte's Global Artificial Intelligence Industry whitepaper predicting that the world will see AI-driven GDP growth of $15.7 trillion by 2030.
As with two sides of a coin, one needs to be aware of the risks involved in over-indulgence and yet counter any unintended consequences by progressively developing resilience.
This convention seeks to provide key perspectives and insights on the emerging trends in the area of Artificial Intelligence, the challenges, and opportunities relevant to management students who are about to enter the exciting world of business and management profession. Perspectives are provided through focused special sessions on four broad sub-themes:
tAI as a Knowledge discipline
tAI as a Career
tAI for Entrepreneurial Success
tAI transforming Lives beyond work
The above topics will be covered through a mix of lively speeches, intense panel discussions and interactive Q&A sessions.
SPECIAL SESSION 1: AI as a Knowledge discipline
There are primarily three large application areas in AI: Machine Learning (ML), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Machine Vision. Each one requires a different learning path. One can proactively choose a learning path that aligns to one's vision and competence. However, knowledge of programming is a base requirement for anyone who seeks to develop AI skills. Knowledge acquired in any of the disciplines can be used to develop AI solutions in the real world to address business problems and arms one with the latest technological skills, which are gaining increasing prominence every day
SPECIAL SESSION 2: AI as a Career
AI offers opportunities to work with life-changing technology applied across industries and an outlet for creativeness and invention. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a ~31% increase in jobs for data scientists and mathematical science professionals by 2030. By Forbes' estimates, machine learning jobs are expected to be worth $31 billion by 2024, witnessing a 40%+ growth over six years. This also implies that, in order to be competitive, people will need to develop latest technological skills. The roles can vary from a data scientist to a machine learning engineer to AI legal and ethics amongst many others.
SPECIAL SESSION 3: AI for Entrepreneurial Success
AI systems can perform complex tasks, suggest decision steps, and also continuously learn independently from their surroundings, making them invaluable for any business. Entrepreneurial success impinges on customer ecstasy - AI can help improve customer experience to provide quick responses, offer high efficiency and offer personalization. AI can also help improve decision making and optimize costs, including identification of current customer needs and prediction of future needs based on data trends, automation of digital marketing efforts, determination of optimal resource requirements in manufacturing and service decisions, etc. Amongst many other industry, the healthcare and sports industries have seen multiple entrepreneurial ventures which have harnessed the power of AI to build new businesses.
SPECIAL SESSION 4: AI transforming Lives beyond work
AI has become all-pervasive in human lives. Like electricity or computers, AI is increasing becoming a general-purpose technology with a multitude of applications making everyday lives simpler From customized content and target advertising on social media, voice assistance in the form of Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa, email communication improvement via smart replies and email filters, and product recommendations for online purchases based on preferences and buying habits to generation of millions of tunes and animated music-conditioned dancing sequences for music artists, and self-driving and auto parking of cars, AI is transforming lives.
On the downside, easy access to personal data can lead to data theft and data manipulation. Policies around data collection, replication and usage are being developed to ensure adequate control and governance.
