Recreation Pavilion Inclement Weather Policy The following inclement weather policies will be in effect dependent upon the Edmonds School District closure/delay statuses. On bad weather days, please check our Mountlake Terrace Recreation and Parks Facebook page, the City of Mountlake Terrace Government page, and CityofMLT on Twitter for updates.

IF PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE CLOSED

If the Edmonds School District has cancelled school due to inclement weather, the Recreation Pavilion will open two hours late for drop in programs. Programs such as all Kids Krew sites, Junior Kids Krew, Preschool, Kindergarten Readiness, Swimming Lessons, Water Fitness, Land Fitness and Dance Classes with a start time prior to 3:00 p.m. will be cancelled. Weather conditions will be reassessed in the afternoon for later programs.

IF PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE DELAYED

If the Edmonds School District has a two-hour late start, the Recreation Pavilion will open two hours late for drop in programs. Junior Kids Krew and all Kids Krew sites will also start two hours late, opening at 8:30 a.m. instead of 6:30 a.m.

In this situation, Preschool and Kindergarten Readiness will be cancelled. For Swimming Lessons and Dance Classes on delayed start days, we will cancel the classes held during the delay. All classes held after the delay will begin at their regularly scheduled time.

For information on Swimming Lessons and Dance Classes with a start time after 3:00 p.m. on days when the Edmonds School District cancels classes, please call the Recreation Pavilion at (425) 776-9173 after 2:30 p.m. to find out whether these classes will be held. We will try our best to keep social media updated as well.

In all cases, conditions will be reassessed. Preschool, Kindergarten Readiness, Swimming Lessons and Dance Classes that are missed due to weather or closure of the Pavilion will not be made up. Make up days for Junior Kids Krew and Kids Krew will be the same as the Edmonds School District make-up days.

SWIM INSTRUCTION

Swim Instruction– Youth, Teen & Adult Our warm water, multi-depth pool is great for learning. Children will progress with confidence and learn to love the water. Our enthusiastic and well-trained instructors create a positive and fun experience. Our lesson progression is skill based and emphasizes proper technique and safety. If you are unsure of where your child might fit best, please schedule an evaluation with one of our aquatic supervisors. Classes meet weekday afternoons/evenings and weekend mornings. Saturday and Sunday classes will be limited and based on whether there is sufficient staff to do so.

CLASS LEVELS: Tots: 9 mo-3 yrs.; Pre-School: 3-5 yrs.; School Age: 6-12 yrs.; Teen/Adult Classes; Ages 13 and over; Advanced Swimming Levels: 5-17 yrs.; Adaptive Aquatics: 3-12 yrs. Not all levels may be offered due to staffing shortages.

Safety Classes American Red Cross Lifeguarding

Junior Lifeguards

Blended Learning format will be used: Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over. Prerequisites: Minimum age: 15 years; Swim 300 yards continuously; Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs; Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds by starting in the water, swimming 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, exit the water without using steps or a ladder. Participants who successfully complete the Lifeguarding course receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years. * Pre-requisites must be completed before first day of class, call 425.776.9173 ext. 1120 to set up an appointment.

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Review Lifeguarding review classes are designed to help you update your skills while also extending your certification for two years. This course will be a combination of classroom time and water skills practice. Participants must bring proof of current certification to the first class.

Jr. Lifeguards will gain a wide variety of knowledge and experience that will include first aid skills, CPR, water rescue techniques, team work, responsibility and the importance of physical fitness. Each day campers will practice lifeguarding skills, team building and gain entry in the Recreation Swim. All participants must be able to swim 100 yards of crawl stroke and tread water for 60 seconds.

American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric CPR/ AED/ First Aid R.21 Blended Learning: Through a combination of self-paced online learning and instructor-led classroom skill sessions, participants will have the opportunity to practice, participate, and demonstrate the same skills and knowledge as classroom based courses. The online portion, which features simulation learning, must be completed prior to attending the classroom skill session.

Our full pool schedule is available online at www.mltrec.com it will reflect the most current information. The regular winter schedule will begin on January 2 and will run through March 30, 2024. Check our website for modified schedules during Edmonds School District Spring Break April 1-5, 2024. Due to a shortage of staff, the schedule below is tentative and may change as staff levels change.

Children under Four Years old MUST be accompanied IN THE WATER by a responsible adult and must stay within arm’s reach for all swims. Safety will not be compromised.

Arthritis Aquatics Program

L.I.F.T. Water Class

The warm water helps relieve pain and stiffness as well as increase joint flexibility. This class meets in shallow water, no swim skills required.

Low Intensity Fitness Training is a program for people who are just starting a fitness program, anyone with joint and mobility issues, or anyone looking for a bit of a slower pace from our other classes. Enjoy the support and warmth of the water as you exercise. Reduced stress on joints, meets in shallow water.

Aquatic Boot Camp Aquatic Boot camp is an all-out class that focuses on core, muscle strength, muscle toning and cardio fitness. It is strongly encouraged that participants have water shoes and a water bottle for class.

Deep Water Fitness A dynamic, total-body workout with no impact. Students use equipment for support and resistance. Must be comfortable in the deep water, but no swim skills are required.

Shallow Water Fitness A fast-paced, fitness class designed to improve cardiovascular fitness, tone muscles, and increase flexibility. No swim skills required.

Water Walk This class meets in shallow water that includes a variety of activities to target range of motion, strength, endurance, and balance. No swim skills are required.

Pool Rentals

Pool Rentals are great for Birthdays, Family Gathering, or Group Parties and Socials! Our warm water, indoor swimming pool is available for year-round fun! All rentals include tubes, mats, basketball hoop, water walk, noodles, water toys and lifejackets. Pool parties are fun for all ages and swimming abilities. We have plenty of options! Rent half the pool or the full pool. Add-on our Lazy River, which winds you around with a light current for additional fun! An adult must accompany children under 4 years old in the water for all rentals. All pool rentals will start with a swimming skills check to ensure they can swim in water over their head. These rentals must be booked a minimum of two weeks in advance, the number of participants may be limited, check at the time of booking.

Specialty Pool & Room Rentals After Hours: The Pavilion pool and rooms are available to rent after the facility closes for the night during the week or on the weekend. We can accommodate specialty water activities, merit badges, water safety skills practice for many types of groups. After hours rentals will be booked if certified staff is available. A minimum of three weeks’ notice to recruit staff is required.

Overnights are currently not available for booking until we have enough certified staff to offer these rentals.

Create a glittering dance with Fairy Princesses or have a blast with the Dance Mix Luau! The options are endless, and our staff of fun dance instructors will assist your party by leading dances and art activities. Then enjoy opening presents and being with friends in our dance studio. Parties are offered in two hour time blocks on Saturdays between 10:00am-2:30pm in the Mambo room.

Early Childhood Programs Preschool and Kindergarten Readiness

Junior Kids Krew

Activities include creative expression through art, movement, dramatic play and language opportunities, hands-on math and science experiences, and craft projects. Enhancement opportunities may include community field trips, dance and/or swimming. Participants must be at least 3 years old by August 31st.

Kindergarten Readiness participants must be at least 4 years old by August 31st and not eligible to enter Kindergarten in the fall of 2023.

Childcare program for ages 3-5 years offering a unique CHILDCARE combination of recreational and enrichment experiences in a OPTION relaxed and caring environment. Curriculum is similar to that listed for our preschool and kindergarten readiness classes.

Participants must be at least 3 year olds. This program has been certified by Washington Department of Early Learning and is offered year round. Care available from 6:30am to 6:30pm. DSHS subsidies are accepted for qualified applicants. Children eligible for Kindergarten in the fall of 2023 are unable to register.

Indoor Playground

A fun place to play for crawlers through age 5. This brightly colored, fun room includes a large ball pit, play-house, climbers, riding toys, building blocks and much more! Parent supervision is required. Food, drink and chairs are not permitted in the indoor playground. Diaper changing areas are located in the locker rooms.

Kids Krew Before and after school experience for children ages 5-12 years offering a wide array of engaging activities in a fun, caring and relaxed environment. Programs located at Mountlake Terrace Pavilion (Terrace Park students), Mountlake Terrace Elementary and Madrona K-8. Adopt A Park The City of Mountlake Terrace has an Adopt a Park program.

Participants for 2023 include: The Ivy League does removal of ivy and invasive species throughout Veterans Memorial Park as well as a few other parks. Sound Community Bank does litter patrol and debris cleanup at Terrace Creek Park. The Friends of Ballinger does weed control, litter cleanup and invasive removal at Ballinger Park.

April Pools Day Water Safety Event Saturday, April 6 Mountlake Terrace Recreation Aquatics Team and America’s Boating Club of Snohomish County are teaming up to provide your family with a free in-water program promoting water safety and life-jacket use. All you have to do is participate and complete all the water stations around the Mountlake Terrace Pool from 10:30am-12:00pm to earn a FREE PASS to the 12:15pm Recreation Swim.

‘Spresso Splash at the Recreation Pavilion Did you know the Recreation Pavilion has an espresso stand? Stop by for a latte, mocha or americano. Grab a smoothie or Italian soda and some snacks after your swim or water fitness class. Don’t forget the popcorn! Pre-paid discount cards are available. Current hours are Monday through Friday, 6am-1:30pm and Saturday 8am-2pm.

Earth Day/ Arbor Day Cleanup Saturday, April 20 Everyone is invited to celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day with a volunteer spring cleanup on April 20. A Mountlake Terrace tradition, this year’s event runs from 9am to 12pm We’ll meet at City Hall for introductions before fanning out across the Civic Campus and Veterans Memorial Park.

Groups who plan to participate are asked to register by contacting Parks and Facilities Superintendent Ken Courtmanch at kcourtmanch@ mltwa.gov, 425-776-1811.

A limited number of tools will be available to share. Most folks prefer to bring their own, along with protective gloves and boots.

• Please register early, classes may be canceled if registration is insufficient.

• Returned check fee: $25 • Participation is voluntary and participants agree to assume responsibility for any injury or damage to person or property.

• Video tapes and photographs may be taken and used for publication.

Refunds • Full refunds will be given if classes are canceled by the Parks and Recreation Department.

• General Programs/Classes: Programs cancelled by the city will result in a prorated refund of program fees for classes not yet attended. No refunds are available for less than $5.00. Customer cancellations will incur a $10 processing fee per program/class. No refunds will be given if a program is cancelled due to emergency or weather for the first two cancelled days.
