Mountlake Terrace residents receive a discount on most programs offered. The prices listed on each class will have a Resident rate depicted by an R and Non-Resident rate depicted by N. Please identify yourself as a resident so the appropriate discount can be applied.

Swim Instruction – Youth, Teen & Adult

Our warm water, multi-depth pool is great for learning. Children will progress with confidence and learn to love the water. Our enthusiastic and well-trained instructors create a positive and fun experience. Our lesson progression is skill based and emphasizes proper technique and safety. If you are unsure of where your child might fit best, please schedule an evaluation with one of our aquatic supervisors. Classes meet weekday afternoons/evenings and weekend mornings.

CLASS LEVELS: Tots: 9 mo-3 yrs.; Pre-School: 3-5 yrs.; School Age: 6-12 yrs.; Teen/Adult Classes: Ages 13 and over; Advanced Swimming Levels: 5-17 yrs.

The above fee is for thirty-minute classes, for specialty classes fees see our swim lesson schedule. Schedules are available at the Pavilion office or on our website at www.mltrec.com with specific class times the week prior to each session.

You can also download the free DaySmart app at the Apple or Google Play stores to manage your account by using your smart phone, computer or tablet.

Swim Instructors! Lifeguards!

Swim Instructors and Lifeguards are needed year ‘round at the Pavilion. Become part of a well-established, nationally recognized, and award-winning aquatic program. We offer paid in-house training for swim instructors.

Marlins Summer Swim Team

The Marlins are a recreational team emphasizing improvement of strokes, endurance, and fun. They compete in dual meets each week as part of the Craze Swim League with other local teams.

PRE-REQUISITE FOR PARTICIPATION:

If you are unsure if your child can meet these criteria, call to schedule an evaluation at the number below.

• New participants ages 6-8 must be able to swim 25 yards of crawl stroke with side breathing and 25 yards of backstroke prior to the first day of practice.

• Those ages 9 and older must be able to swim 50 yards of each crawl stroke, backstroke and 25 yards of breaststroke kick prior to the first day of practice.

SPRING/SUMMER SWIMMING LESSON DATES

The Pool, Spa, Sauna will be closed from May 10 through June 23 to drain the pool and to replace and install the river liner. The week of June 23 will be used for refilling and reheating the water. The Pool, Spa and Sauna will reopen for summer programs on June 30.

SPLASH INTO SUMMER: SWIMMING REFRESHER COURSE JUNE 30-JULY 3

Our Swimming Lesson Refresher Course will run daily from June 30 to July 3, offering 30-minute lessons to brush up swimming strokes and boost confidence. Lessons are available in the morning (8:30am-12:00pm) and evening (3:10-7:30pm). Participants can register for one or more days for $5 per lesson. Please note, registration of these classes does not provide priority registration for summer lessons or other aquatic programs. Registration will begin at 12:00pm on June 16th in DaySmart. Registration will close at 8:00am for each corresponding day.

Summer Session 2 – Twice a Week Lessons – Evenings

Placement in the Elite Practice requires a minimum time standard listed below:

• 9-12-Year-olds: 50 Freestyle: 38.50 or faster AND 100 IM 1:40.00 or faster

• 13-18-Year-olds: 50 Freestyle: 35.50 or faster AND 100 IM 1:30.00 or faster

Placement Evaluations are by appointment. Please call-in advance to arrange your appointment 425-776-9173 ext. 1120 with a staff member. Register for one of the specific practice times listed below, this will be your child’s practice time for the season. Available openings will be online through June 30. Lap Lanes: Shared lanes open for continuous lap swimming. Kickboards and pull buoys are available for use. During specific times designated (A) as “Adult” lap swim participants must be 16 years or older to use the lanes. Please follow posted lap swimming etiquette. Admission to lap lanes includes the use of sauna and therapy pool.

River Only: Our river has a light current. Inner tubes, flotation devices and life jackets are available for use.

Leisure Pool & Lazy River: These are times when both the River and the Leisure Pool are available.

Leisure Pool Only (Shallow Area only): Geysers, Toddler Island, floatation toys, water toys, lifejackets and noodles. Designed for children 6 and under and their parents. Prices only include the leisure pool, it does not include the Sauna, Therapy Pool or Lap lanes. River is not available at these times.

Recreation Swim: Leisure pool area, Lazy River, and main pool equipped with floatation devices, water toys, lifejackets, and basketball hoops. *Friday Rec Swim is canceled on training dates (usually first Friday of each month.)

Half Recreation Swim: Half pool Recreation Swim includes Leisure Pool, River and three lap lanes for play. This is a great time for swimming evaluations and float tests!

Pool Only

Water Fitness Classes & Times

Enjoy the support and warmth of the water. Water workouts reduce stress on joints; improve cardiovascular fitness, tone muscles and increase flexibility. Water Fitness is a treat. All classes are drop-in. Consult with a physician before beginning any new fitness activity.

Arthritis Aquatics Program

The warm water helps relieve pain and stiffness as well as increase joint flexibility. This class meets in shallow water, no swimming skills required.

Aquatic Boot Camp

Aquatic Boot Camp is an all-out class that focuses on core, muscle strength, muscle toning and cardio fitness. It is strongly encouraged that participants have water shoes and a water bottle for class.

Deep Water Fitness

A dynamic, total-body workout with no impact. Students use equipment for support and resistance. Must be comfortable in the deep water, but no swimming skills are required.

L.I.F.T. Water Class

Low Intensity Fitness Training is a program for people who are just starting a fitness program, anyone with joint and mobility issues, or anyone looking for a bit of a slower pace from our other classes. Enjoy the support and warmth of the water as you exercise. Reduced stress on joints, meets in shallow water.

Shallow Water Fitness

A fast-paced, fitness class is designed to improve cardiovascular fitness, tone muscles, and increase flexibility. No swimming skills required.

Water Walk

This class meets in shallow water that includes a variety of activities to target range of motion, strength, endurance, and balance. No swimming skills are required.

River Fitness

Use of river current, water resistance and hand weights for a complete body workout. No swimming skills required, meets in shallow water.

Safety Classes

American Red Cross Lifeguarding r. 24

Blended Learning: This course will certify participants as an American Red Cross Lifeguard. This entry level course can be utilized at most pools to work as a lifeguard. Pre-requisites: 15 years of age. Jump into water, swim 150 yards using front crawl or breaststroke then tread 2 minutes using legs only the swim 50 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke. Swim a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds of swimming 20 yards, submerge to pick up a 10 lb. object and swim back to start on back then exit the water without using a ladder. Certifications will be awarded, providing all sessions are attended and successful completion of all skills and written exams. This course is a blended learning course with most lectures online and water skills in person. Prerequisites can be completed before the first day of class

American Red Cross Lifeguarding Review

Lifeguarding review classes are for current lifeguards to renew their certification. This course will be a combination of classroom time and water skills practice. Participants must bring proof of current certification to the first class.

American Red Cross Adult & Pediatric CPR AED & First Aid

AGES 12 AND UP

The American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program helps participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. To pass you must complete all sections of the online learning session, participate in all course activities, and demonstrate competency in all required skills.

Junior Lifeguards

AGES 12-14

Jr. Lifeguards will gain a wide variety of knowledge and experience that will include first aid skills, CPR, water rescue techniques, team work, responsibility and the importance of physical fitness. Each day campers will practice lifeguarding skills, team building. All participants must be able to swim 100 yards of crawl stroke and tread water for 60 seconds. On Friday participants will meet at Lake Ballinger for a BBQ and activities around the lake including canoeing.

Pool Rentals

Pool Rentals are great for Birthdays, Family Gathering, or Group Parties and Socials! Our warm indoor swimming pool is available for year-round fun! Pool parties are fun for all ages and swimming abilities. All rentals include tubes, mats, basketball hoop, water walk, noodles, water toys and life jackets. Rent half the pool or the full pool. Add-on our Lazy River to half pool rentals, which winds you around with a light current for additional fun!

Safety is important to us: Children under 4 years old must be accompanied by and within arm’s reach of an adult in the water for all rentals. All pool rentals will start with a safety talk and swimming skills check. POOL RENTALS TIMES:

Indoor Playground Rental

These parties are fun for toddlers and preschoolers through age five. A rental package includes preschool sized tables and chairs just outside the playground, tablecloth and playtime in the indoor playground for up to 15 children. Please do not bring food or drink inside the playground.

Dance Parties

Jazz up your child’s next party! Schedule their birthday, holiday or celebration and they can groove with a Jazzy Jam, create a glittering dance with Fairy Princesses or have a blast with the Dance Mix Luau! Robotics with AI & Robotics Academy

YOUTH AGES 6-11

Led by instructor Anshu Yadav of AI & Robotics Academy (aiarobo.com).

This class provides an engaging introduction and comprehensive overview of robotics, emphasizing on engineering, coding and creativity in young minds. Students will actively construct robots tailored to address practical, real-world challenges, focusing on specific tasks like line following, obstacle avoidance or color sorting. The curriculum includes hands-on exploration of various sensors, including touch, IR, bluetooth etc. Additionally, students will compete in-class robot challenges, fostering the development of critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork skills throughout the 5 lesson session.

Machine Sewing and Crafting Classes for Children

All crafting classes are instructed by teachers of Little Hands Creations. Children can learn a skill they will use for a lifetime when they learn how to sew! Drawing Classes with Adventures in Art

This drawing-based art education program uses a simple drawing method to produce original works of art using artist mediums. Children learn to think creatively, expand their drawing skills and may become more confident in self-expression, all while having fun in a non-competitive environment of encouragement and artistic inspiration. Beyond Basic Dog Obedience

Basic Dog Obedience class must be completed to enroll in Beyond Basic. This is a fun class that builds on the foundation started in basic obedience, dogs progress at their own pace and prepares participants for the American Kennel Club (AKC) Canine Good Citizen test which will be given on the last night of class.

Puppygarten

FOR PUPPIES 8-16 WEEKS

Class focuses on proper puppy socialization and normal puppy development as well as how puppies learn. Beginning obedience as well as common behavior problems are covered. And everyone’s favorite: Puppy Recess! A fun class for puppies and humans. First week of class please bring proof of current vaccines, regular 6-foot leash, and training treats and chew toy for class down time. Off-Leash Dog Park

Located just Northeast of the Recreation Pavilion, the off-leash dog park is approximately ¾ of an acre in size and positions in the woods of Terrace Creek Park. The park is open from dawn to dusk, seven days per week.

Fall Preschool and Kids Krew

Fall Preschool, Kindergarten Readiness and Junior Kids Krew

THESE PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED TO AGES 3-5 YEARS AND TAKE PLACE IN OUR RECREATION PAVILION.

Our Preschool learning program is for children age 3 years old by August 31, 2025. It operates Tuesdays and Thursdays 9:30am-12:30pm.

Our Kindergarten Readiness learning program is for children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2026 and are 4 years old by August 31, 2025. It operates Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 9:30am-12:30pm. Both of these programs follow the Edmonds School District calendar. They begin in September and end in June.

Our Junior Kids Krew program is a full-day year-round preschool childcare program open to children ages 3 and 4. Care is available from 6:30am to 6:30pm (max 10 hours/day). Junior Kids Krew is state licensed and certified through Early Achievers. This program operates from September to August. Separate registration is required for July and August.

Kids Krew

AGES 5-12 YEARS

Kids Krew is a before and after school-age licensed childcare program. Kids Krew offers a relaxed and trusting environment where your school age child can pursue interests, have fun and develop friendships. This program is offered for children attending Terrace Park Elementary, Mountlake Terrace Elementary and Madrona K-8 School. We follow the Edmonds School District calendar. Separate registration is required for ESD non-student days. We open at 6:30am and close at 6:30pm.

Youth Summer Day Camps & Child Care

SummerScape Camp

Our day camp offers an environment where your child can pursue interests, have big fun and develop friendships. They receive kind and respectful support from staff each day. This is a traditional summer day camp where everyone plays games, gets messy with arts & crafts, go swimming in our life-guarded pool and go on off-site field trips. Each child enrolled receives a camp t-shirt. SummerScape Day Camp includes Explorers (1st & 2nd grade), Adventurers (3rd-5th grade and Trailblazers (6th grade through age 13).

CIT-Counselor-in-Training

AGES 13-14

This is the perfect opportunity for that teen who wants to learn how to work with children. It’s a program that fosters leadership development by giving the teen opportunities to help and lead with many of the different day camp projects and responsibilities that happen throughout the summer. The CIT’s assist lead day camp staff in setting up games, implementing craft projects, playing with the young campers, and helping to care for the children while out and about on field trips. CITs are fully supervised by adults and supported with decision making. Registration is weekly. Eligible teens should be 13 by June 30, 2025. A CIT may be enrolled for a maximum of three weeks. 5-day week CIT resident rate $52, non-resident rate $57. 4-day week CIT resident rate $41.60, non-resident rate $45.60.

Dance Day Camp

Each day will have a different schedule including multiple styles of dance instruction in Jazz, Ballet, Lyrical as well as condition exercises. Over the course of the week you’ll be guided through a creative dance project and create a dance piece of your own. Crafting and watching age-appropriate dance on our big screen will be included to inspire everyone between workouts. Wear close-fitting clothes like leggings and a t-shirt so you can move and be comfortable. Ballet slippers or Jazz shoes will work for all dance instruction. April Pool’s Day

April 12, 12-3pm

Join us for our annual April Pool’s Day event on Saturday, April 12 from 12-3pm at the Recreation Pavilion – now with a fresh new look and exciting activities for all ages! This free event will feature two sessions of in-water safety activities and a safety fair featuring local organizations. Some in-water activities may require an adult to accompany children 6 and under. Participate in safety stations to receive a free life jacket courtesy of the Washington State Parks Boating Program (while supplies last). Staff will also be available for swim lesson evaluations, float tests, and Marlins Swim Team evaluations. No registration required – come and enjoy!

South County Walks

South County Walks are family-friendly and open to anyone interested, of all abilities. Here in Mountlake Terrace we offer different walk routes each week, which allows us to see different areas of the City. Walks are in July and August and are typically 2-3 miles.

In honor of Earth Day and Arbor Day, the City of Mountlake Terrace invites you to join the community effort to beautify Ballinger Park on Saturday, April 26. A limited number of tools will be available. Please bring your non-electric tools and wear your boots and work gloves. Lunch will be provided.

Join us for food trucks, fireworks and family fun!

Terrace Summer Nights is back this summer. These events activate public spaces, engage sponsors and partners, and create community through a family friendly setting.

Music performances will be from 4:30-7pm July 10 and 24 at the Civic Campus and July 17 and 31 at Terrace Creek Park.

Movies will be held 15 minutes after sunset on the following dates: July 26, Aug 2, 8 and 22. Start time will vary depending on date. All movies will be shown at Terrace Creek Park.

Bubble Play Day

EVERGREEN PLAYFIELD COMPLEX

Are you feeling bubbly today? Join us for Bubble Play Day as a fun way to connect with neighbors. This free event is for kids and adults alike to come and enjoy the amazing joy that comes from bubbles. You can be a bubbleographer, blower or popper, or just run free in the park, creating an amazing bubbly spectacle for all to see. It’s totally up to you! We will provide bubble solution and wands at multiple stations in the park or feel free to bring your own.

National Night Out Against Crime

August 5, 6pm

The City of Mountlake Terrace continues to host this FREE event, which includes food, entertainment, city vehicles, demonstrations and much more. This is a time to get together with neighbors, other community members and as city staff. Representatives from the city, local businesses, and organizations will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about their services Mountlake Terrace. National Night Out is made possible by the support and donations of local businesses, volunteers, and city government. Please join us for this year’s event on August 5, 2025, 6:00 to 9:00pm at Evergreen Playfield.

45th Annual Arts of the Terrace Juried Art Show

• Registration for most classes and programs are online via DaySmart Recreation.

• Advance registration and payment required. Fees include state and local sales tax, where applicable.

• Please register early as classes may be cancelled if enrollment is insufficient.

• If paying by check, please make the check payable to City of Mountlake Terrace.

• Returned check fee: $25.

• Participation is voluntary. Participants agree to assume responsibility for any injury or damage to person or property.

• Videos and photographs may be taken and used for marketing purposes.

Refunds

• General Programs/Classes: Programs cancelled by the city will result in a prorated refund of program fees for classes not yet attended. No refunds are available for less than $5.00. Customer cancellations will incur a $10 processing fee per program/class. No refunds will be given if a program is cancelled due to emergency or weather for the first two cancelled days.
